What are some of the major changes we've witnessed in the way news is being covered and reported over the past four decades? To find that out and much more, Jeff spoke with former news journalist and educator par excellence, Ralph Begleiter.

As a CNN "World Affairs Correspondent," Ralph Begleiter was the most widely-traveled reporter during the first two pioneering decades of CNN's existence. While at CNN, Ralph covered international politics and helped create and build the all-news TV genre. He worked in 100 countries on all 7 continents and reported on top U.S. diplomats and other officials.

In Part 1 of this two-part series, listen as Ralph discusses how he first got into broadcast news journalism, his first reaction to being asked to work for CNN, his thoughts about Ted Turner (CNN's founder), what CNN did that broke new ground in news journalism, how that was changed irrevocably in 1996 by Fox News, how things have changed so much since then, and what implications that has for all of us in our receipt and consumption of the news.

Next time, In Part 2 of this series, Ralph will discuss COVID-19's impact on news journalism, where he thinks news journalism might go in the future, and what opportunities that might offer to those in the know.
