Kenyan McDuffie had quite the journey to his Tuesday night victory in the At-Large D.C. Council race. Currently the Ward 5 councilmember, he suspended his campaign for D.C. attorney general over questions of eligibility, and then entered the At-Large race after the primary. But his win means that one incumbent has been ousted: Elissa Silverman. McDuffie joins us to talk about his win and the future council.

Marylanders voted overwhelmingly to elect the state’s first Black governor, Wes Moore. In fact, it was an election of firsts: Aruna Miller will be the first immigrant and woman of color to serve as Maryland lieutenant governor. Anthony Brown will be the state’s first Black attorney general. And Brooke Lierman will be the first woman to serve as Maryland comptroller. But we’re not just here to talk about biographies — we’re here to talk politics. That’s where Maryland State Sen. Cheryl Kagan (D-Montgomery County) comes in. She joins us to talk about what the post-Hogan years will look like, and what a Democrat in the governor’s mansion will mean for the party’s policy agenda.
