Scripture passage: Luke 24:13-35 I wonder why Cleopas and the other follower didn’t recognize Jesus when he met them on the road? I wonder what it was like to walk along, under the sky, and have Jesus explain all about the Scriptures to them? I wonder what words he used? I wonder what his voice sounded like as he spoke? The friends said to one another, “Didn’t our hearts burn inside us as he opened the Scriptures? Weren’t we excited, as he talked with us on the road?” I wonder how it felt, to begin to understand that God had been working in all of the sad and scary things that had happened to Jesus? I wonder how they recognized Jesus when he broke the bread with them at the table? I wonder if Jesus is present to me, in a special way, when I come to his table? I wonder what it was like, when all of the disciples gathered together again, telling one another the different ways they had seen the Lord?  Jesus, you helped your followers understand how to read Scripture. You showed them that God was at work in your suffering and death, and then you shared a meal with them and they knew that you were alive with them again. Meet us as we hear your good words, and be with us at your table, whenever we can gather there again.  In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
