Members of the NSW police force will now be allowed to march in Saturday's Mardi Gras parade, but only if they're out-of-uniform.

The decision is aimed at reducing tensions and anger among some in the community in the wake of the recent murder of two young gay men last week, by a serving police officer. Peter Murphy took part in the very first Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978 - renowned for police violence towards the LGBT community - but he says he welcomes the board's decision.

Guest: Peter Murphy, 78’er
