Thumped in the winner

The winning goal came in
extra time when England’s attacking midfielder Georgia Stanway scored with a long-range shot
to seal a
come-from-behind win over Spain. The BBC described the shot as being thumped which means the ball was hit really hard indeed; Stanway thumped the ball into the net. The headline goes on to say that the England player thumped in the winner – she thumped the ball into the net and she ...
