Her novels include "Peony in Love, Snow Flower" and "Secret Fan, Shanghai Girls, Dreams of Joy". Her latest is "China Dolls", a story of the Chinese nightclubs of wartime America that takes place in the Chinatowns of both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
