Ever wonder where the expression "Win one for the Gipper" came from? It comes from the true story of Knute Rockney, who played for the University of Notre Dame, and almost single-handedly turned them into a football powerhouse during his playing years. After playing, he became a coach, bring all kinds of new innovations to the sport, including the forward pass. George Gipp was one of his star players, and when Gipp was struck with a deadly disease and couldn't play, the coach asked the team to win one for the Gipper- which they did. A movie was made starring Ronald Reagan as the Gipper and Pat O,Brien as Knute Rockney. Both actors reprised their roles for this Lux radio presentation.
