"Boys State" premiered earlier this year the Sundance Film Festival where it won U.S. Documentary Competition Grand Jury Prize. An A24 production, it got picked up by Apple and is now streaming exclusively on Apple TV+. The documentary follows a thousand teenage boys attending the Boys/Girls State program in Texas. Their goal is to put their political differences aside and come together to build a representative government from the ground up over the course of a week. The documentary's directors, Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss, were kind enough to sit down and chat with us about how they came to the project, working on it and film's reception so far.
