Submit ReviewMike Yastrzemski has been all over the map since he first debuted for the San Francisco Giants in 2019. Through his first two (abbreviated) MLB seasons, Yaz looked like a budding star. Then, in 2021 and 2022, he became more of a league-average hitter for the SF Giants. Will he continue to regress offensively in 2023, or will Yaz have a bounceback season for the Giants?
Another polarizing Giants player is Joey Bart, who's also had positive and negative moments in his SF Giants career. Bart was the Giants' No. 2 overall pick in 2018, and he was considered by some to be a Top 10 prospect in baseball very recently. However, he has mostly struggled in his MLB career. What does Bart need to do to gain confidence and truly establish himself as a No. 1 catching option? Strikeouts have been a major problem, so that's a good place to start. He also must gain confidence defensively, and become a true leader of the pitching staff.
What do the San Francisco Giants plan to do with their deep rotation? They've got seven solid starters, in Logan Webb, Alex Cobb, Sean Manaea, Ross Stripling, Alex Wood, Anthony DeSclafani, and Jakob Junis. They've also got a young stud in Kyle Harrison who's close to MLB ready. The SF Giants may decide to piggyback some starters, such as Alex Wood (who struggled mightily the third time through batting orders in 2022) and DeSclafani, who's coming off season-ending ankle surgery.
