Submit ReviewAs we begin to wrap up 2020, a year none of us could have anticipated, many of us are starting to plan and create goals for 2021. I am one of those people, but this time around I’m focusing more on the goals of how I want to show up and what I want my business to look like to allow me to pivot and make changes for unforeseen circumstances, such as a pandemic. This year was to be the year where both of my kids would be in school and I would have hours to myself again. The complete opposite happened. I was also struggling with finding time to even write goals and plan, therefore I created this episode filled with questions that my friend, Brenna McGowan sent in one of her amazing emails. I’m sharing the questions and my answers with you so that you have a framework to work from as well.
It’s time to start planning for 2021 and beyond!
If you’re like me, you went into 2020 with big goals and plans. I even planned on having 10 hours a week to myself with both kids being in school. Instead, I am basically homeschooling one kid and a Barbie playmate for the other. I went from being able to take them to the park and playdates to get their energy out to taking them on neighborhood walks, sometimes twice a day or more! I’m not complaining because I discovered that this time I’m spending with them is time I wouldn’t have had, nor would I see my son learning the way he is. For 2021, we should head into it with our eyes wide open, goals made, plans written out, BUT with the ability and knowledge that things could change and we’ll do the best we can with what we are served.
When it comes to goals in your business, oftentimes we only think of financial goals, but business goals should go well beyond just money. In my planning, I’m reviewing my actual revenue, my goal revenue, but also looking at what services worked for my clients and which ones I enjoyed. I’m allowing myself to pivot in my business to reflect the lifestyle I want to live, the clients I want to serve and the difference in the world I want to make. I’m taking a closer look at the people I want to work with and going beyond just defining my ideal client avatar but look at the work they do in the world as well.
How do you want to show up next year? How will you help your audience be successful? What does the perfect day look like to you? How can you start making that every day instead of just a future perfect day? These are all goals that you should be working on and creating a plan for.
Goal planning in your business goes beyond the traditional definition of a business. You should be taking this time to reflect on yourself and what is working for you, along with what is not working. This is a time where you have a fresh slate to start dreaming from, planning for, and creating.
What’s one of your goals for 2021?
