lexicon.org/magic/sectumsempra/">Sectumsempra! – lexicon.org/magic/levicorpus/">Levicorpus! – lexicon.org/magic/langlock/">Langlock! – and even the useful lexicon.org/magic/muffliato/">Muffliato…. The lexicon.org/quote/the-half-blood-prince/">Half-Blood Prince may be a genius at lexicon.org/thing/potions/">Potions, but the lexicon.org/thing/the-princes-copy-of-advanced-potion-making/">Prince’s book is also filled with dubious spells – the worst of which probably shouldn’t be used on anyone, not just students. “Dangling people upside-down by the ankle? ….Who puts their time and energy into making up spells like that?”

“Maybe your dad did use it, Harry, ….but he’s not the only one. We’ve seen a whole bunch of people use it, in case you’ve forgotten. Dangling people in the air. Making them float along, asleep, helpless.” (HBP12)

Hermione recognises that the person who wrote these spells has an affinity for lexicon.org/magic/dark-magic-2/">Dark Magic. All through the book, she continues to try and investigate who they might be – especially after lexicon.org/event/circa-may-1997-harry-uses-the-sectumsempra-curse/">Harry’s near-fatal disaster using Sectumsempra (HBP24).

As the school’s location is hidden (and is likely to be lexicon.org/magic/unplottable/">unplottable as well), Hogwarts’ students are able to have their lexicon.org/place/quidditch-related-places/quidditch-pitch/">Quidditch pitch in situ year-round – unlike the lexicon.org/place/quidditch-related-places/quidditch-stadiums/">stadia for professional and World Cup matches, which have to be hidden from lexicon.org/thing/muggle">Muggles. Although there are only lexicon.org/thing/quidditch-calendars/">six matches during the school year, Quidditch is an important part of school life and the rivalries between lexicon.org/thing/quidditch-teams-of-hogwarts/">house teams are quite fierce.
