In this episode I answer a listener question about the characteristics of great poker minds: patient, open, calculating, non-emotional & striving for the best decisions

Question 1 from Gil (1:35)

Hey Sky Love the show, thanks for putting it out. I’ve been a long time poker player, but I still have tons of mental game issues, like tilt and looking at results instead of how I’m playing. I really liked your podcast on The Mental Game of Poker and I’m going to read it soon, just need to find the time. What do you think I need to work on to fix my mental game? Thanks and keep it up, Gil

I’ve got some thoughts on the mental aspects of poker, and I thought I’d arrange my answer around the characteristics I think a poker player should strive to develop. There are 5 characteristics that I think all the poker greats share:

  1. Patient and Persevering
  2. Open Minded
  3. Always Calculating
  4. Never Emotional
  5. Strives to Make the Best Plays… Always
