• A mailbag episode next week! Email your messages to chris@letsfindoutpodcast.com by September 7 and as long as they require absolutely no research, we’ll try to read them out on air.
• Back by popular demand, we’ll be doing another Ritchie historical walking tour this September, in collaboration with the Ritchie Community League. The Ritchie area is filled with fascinating stories, from its cameo appearance on SCTV to the cattle that escaped from the Gainers Meatpacking Plant. Send us your questions and Oumar Salifou will use them to build this year’s history walk. Maybe you’ve wondered about the Métis riverlots nearby, the political and ethnic history of the Ritchie area, or whether this area was ever underneath a glacier. How about gentrification, or the Spanish-speaking communities in the area? Send in anything you’re curious about!
  This is the fourth year the league has partnered Let’s Find Out to bring these tours to you. You can listen to past episodes online: – Episode 42 (recorded 2019) explores the history of meatpacking, German immigration and iconic local species in the neighbourhood. – Episode 24 (recorded 2018) takes you to Wallace Shoe Making, the 1917 Dame residence and Minchau blacksmith shop.
  – Episode 11 (recorded 2017) features Ritchie School, the Gainers meatpacking plant and Ritchie’s urban forest.

• This fall, Chris Chang-Yen Phillips will be teaching a course on Writing About Science at the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Extension. We’ll learn how to trans­form sci­en­tif­ic research, the­o­ries and term papers into clear and con­cise writ­ing with a more broad-based appeal. This course will focus on struc­tur­ing and telling a sto­ry, under­stand­ing what a gen­er­al audi­ence is look­ing for, and on spe­cif­ic tools and tech­niques to com­mu­ni­cate engag­ing con­tent relat­ed to sci­ence, tech­nol­o­gy, and the envi­ron­ment, includ­ing gen­er­al report­ing best prac­tices.
