Did the Vilna Gaon’s opposition to Beshtian Chassidus affect the way he would interact with them on a personal level? Are there any Torah precedents that apply to this situation?  We also carefully examine the difference, at a communal level, between the Cherem of 1772 and the Cherem of 1781.
