Submit ReviewIt was, ironically, one of the most fun games the Lakers have played all season (not that there are all that many to choose from). Austin Reaves became only the fifth Lakers rookie to notch a triple double, Malik Monk popped off for 41 and Mac McClung capped things off with a double clutch reverse dunk as the Lakers beat the Denver Nuggets (a skeleton crew, but still...) Sunday.
And literally as the final horn sounded, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Frank Vogel will be fired, as early as Monday (and really, can you wait after the Tweet comes out?). Vogel saw the Tweet before hitting the podium, and made it clear nobody from the organization has said anything to him. And it was also clear he didn't think he was being treated respectfully.
All of this matters not because Vogel's firing will be a surprise - it's obviously not - but because it impacts the perception of the franchise and the search for the next coach. The Lakers haven't exactly nailed it in how they've handled coaching recent coaching searches, and were thought to be putting Vogel in an untenable position last offseason by only offering him a year's extension.
It's a tough way to start an offseason for a team that is once again suffering a crisis of reputation. Maybe not as bad as it was a few years ago... but it can also be argued the team a few seasons back was in a better place in terms of personnel, flexibility and future assets.
Finally, postmortems written about the Lakers from ESPN and The LA Times get to the "Westbrook Problem," and illustrate how everyone got it wrong in a move that was likely doomed from the jump.

SEGMENT 2: Are the Lakers going to have an easy time attracting a premier head coach?
SEGMENT 3: At the core of the Westbrook issue was a belief that Russ could adjust and sacrifice effectively. Everyone involved thought it could happen. Everyone was wrong. Why?
