In Episode 62 of Far From Finished, Lew talks about working with a counselor and following his advice to help get through the treatment process. In treatment Lew was open-minded towards change and he listened to people who were sober.

The post Lew appeared first on American Addiction Centers.

Lew’s first love was baseball. Being involved in athletics was something he got fulfillment out of. He tried to be the perfect kid and student but school was always pretty hard for him. Introduced to drugs at the age of 13, Lew began to experiment with them throughout high school. He was able to find an avenue outside of athletics that helped him connect with other people.

An elbow injury in college put an end to Lew’s baseball playing career.  After graduating, Lew fell into a deep depression. He was lost. Baseball was the only thing he could identify with and now it was gone. He began reaching out for more drugs and alcohol to fill the void he had. He also found his drug of choice: cocaine. He poured drugs especially cocaine into that void for five years.

That void spawned a series of unfortunate events that culminated in multiple stints in treatment. He can remember looking at himself in the mirror and being scared of the person he saw. Lew accepted treatment and began a process that was an eye-opening experience for him. He learned several coping skills to deal with the feelings he went through in addiction.

Since getting sober in 2009, Lew has lived a life of gratitude. During his early recovery, he knew he wanted to work in the addiction field. When an opportunity presented itself to Lew, he took it. He’s been working in the industry ever since. Working in Houston (the city he grew up in) Lew loves being able to work with addicts and helping them achieve a life where they can be productive members of society.
