Daniel Hopwood has been in the design industry for over 30 years. Aware that Interior Design is a career that requires both education and experience, he decided early on to experience both. Fresh from Yorkshire he started as an assistant to a furniture buyer at Harvey Nichols, thereby learning how to recognise quality and where to find it. As an admirer of craftsmanship, he spent a year studying stone and wood carving, gilding and polychrome work. Working for restorers, Dan gained knowledge of European antiques and how they were made, which he still uses today. Dan went on to graduate with a degree in Architecture, tutored in the Corbusian manner at the University of Westminster, and then joined the Prince of Wales Institute of Architecture to acquire a classical, architectural training. From there he worked in various architects’ offices, including the award-winning Hampshire County Architects. In 1993 he got his first break, an opportunity to find and design an apartment for an architectural critic, and took the chance to set up Studio Hopwood. “The aim is to remain small so that I can be involved in every project, offering clients a highly creative, practical and ultimately personal service.”  With years of valuable experience, the British Institute of Interior Design decided to appoint him as Director of Continuing Professional Development and then President. He is a guest tutor at the KLC School of Design and has worked as a trends consultant for Dulux. Dan regularly gives talks at trade shows such as Decorex and 100% Design and more light hearted versions  for public shows such as Grand Designs. He writes about design for magazines and newspapers including the Sunday Times and Evening Standard. A presenter on the series, “Britain’s Best Homes” for Channel 4 and more recently the judge on BBC2’s “The Great Interior Design Challenge” which is now on its fourth series. He is happiest, however, on projects either in the Studio or on site and meeting with clients.  Founded by Daniel Hopwood in 1993, the studio is an interior design practice with associate architects, landscape architects and project managers. The aim is to remain small so that I can be involved in every project, offering clients a highly creative, practical and ultimately personal service. All in my Studio are fully qualified and are members of their professional bodies. We have an extensive library of finishes and materials which are being constantly updated, the technical knowledge and the necessary technology, together with the assurance of many years of experience. That’s how we are able to interpret a vision into reality. Explore Daniel's Website here Add Daniel's book recommendation, The Tyranny of Taste, to your design library by clicking here
