Donna Mondi, principal and owner of Donna Mondi Interior Design since 2001, started the firm out of a love of design and a dedication to creating not only beautiful interiors but a positive experience for her clients. Since starting out on her own, she has built the firm to a team of eight working on over 25 projects throughout the Chicagoland area. The firm recently completed a renovation ofan 1890’s manufacturing plant which the DMID team now calls home. With over 5,000 square feet, Donna has room to expand as well as showcase her own designs in a capsule collection of furnishings set to debut this fall. Donna takes her style cues from the architecture and era of the home combined with the client’s lifestyle all the while blending in a balance of classicism with modernity and an edginess that comes with the unexpected. Her projects range from urban modern high-rise condos in the Gold Coast to transitional estate homes in the North Shore. Her efforts were recently recognized with three ASID Design Excellence First Place awards in 2016 as well as being named as one of the “Top 15 Interior Designers in Chicago” and “Top 200 Influencers in the Home Design Industry” 2017. A new passion that’s come from Donna’s involvement on social media is to mentor young designers looking for guidance and advice as they consider how to begin their career. Through her Instagram stories showing the behind-the-scenes truth that happens in a busy design firm, she has created a following of emerging professionals and design students. Her current plans involve a summer “Design Camp” that will be hosted in her studio to give a taste of what a day in the life of a designer looks like.
