Submit ReviewRichard Hough has been a structural engineer with Arup for over 40 years, including periods as a Director in Arup’s London office, as Managing Principal of Arup’s California practice, and as Managing Principal of Arup New South Wales. He joined the Sydney office in 1970 during the final stages of design of the Sydney Opera House, then led the Arup team during the 2000’s assisting Richard Johnson and Utzon’s office on the Opera Theatre Renewal Project. On the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Sydney Opera House, Richard Hough talks exclusively about some of the lesser-known facts of building this global icon.
