The Herle Burly was created by Air Quotes Media with support from our presenting sponsor TELUS, as well as CN Rail. Dr. Andrew Boozary is here. And I’ll just come out and say it: Dr. Boozary’s CV intimidates the crap out of me. He’s a primary care physician, policy practitioner, researcher, and the Founding Executive Director of the Gattuso Centre for Social Medicine at the University Health Network. He completed his medical training at U of T and his health policy training at Princeton and Harvard. He is also the founding Editor in Chief of the Harvard Public Health Review. Dr. Boozary’s work is at the intersection of health policy, social justice and equitable health care delivery — his aim is to improve health outcomes for marginalized populations. And with a background like that not shocking at all that he’s served in senior advisory roles for policymakers in Canada and abroad.I want to focus our conversation on a few key questions:

  • How does poverty manifest itself in health issues, what kind of stresses does it put on the health care system?
  • Homelessness. What is it, and is the approach scalable to the size of the problem?
  • How does everybody get ready access to primary care?
  • And finally, some politics.
