CW: Discussions of grief, loss of a child, hallucination, abuse, death.
This episode was actually very easy to talk about, because at the end of the day, it was just really, really good. I mean, they did so much this whole season to set us up for this episode, and then paid it off, fully. There was care and detail in the staging of Betty and Alice’s struggle to find comfort and truth in a grief-stricken family, using the absolute perfect musical to get that story across. Add to it the story points of Varchie confronting the truth that they’re just wanting different things, Tabitha and Jughead making things official, and Toni making peace with Cheryl to help Britta find her way, and you’ve got one heck of an episode. Which is a double-edged sword, because it proves you can stick to a plan if you really try. So why not try more, Riverdale? Drop the needle on the record as we discuss “Chapter 94: Next to Normal” this week on The Doghouse.
