CW: Discussion of homophobia, sex, murder, disturbing artwork, false accusations, manipulation.
Instead of being a super sexy episode, this week’s Riverdale was awkward moment after awkward moment as the gang all discovers their inner arousal. Which is all the more complicated by the twisting love polyhedrons between everyone. In fact, if we really wanted to get this over with we should just have the orgy they all have in their dreams. Instead, the teachers opt for the non-threatening discussion of plant reproduction and make everyone even more confused than they already are. Also, there’s some really terrible poetry. Brush up on your guides to human sexuality as we discuss “Chapter 120: Sex Education” this week on The Doghouse.

Things are suspiciously uneventful in Riverdale these days, and that’s both concerning and refreshing all at the same time. Sure, Kevin’s figuring out he might just like boys, and Cheryl is desperately trying to hide she likes girls. Oh, and Archie gets pulled into a livestock show with every socialite boy in Riverdale. Still, there’s something unsettling about all of this, not the least of which being that we’re seeing an awful lot of storylines we’d already seen in Season 1. Kick off your saddle shoes and hit the dance floor as we discuss “Chapter 119: Skip, Hop, & Thump!" this week on The Doghouse.

It’s time, one last time, for a season premiere. And this time, we’re back, to the future, in 1955. Jughead’s the only person who knows anything that happened, while the rest of the crew are dealing with regular, average 50’s stuff. That and the incredibly dark, looming murder of Emmett Till in Mississippi. Which, in true Riverdale fashion, is dealt with in the least subtle way possible. Still, there’s plenty of fun things to talk about, like Cheryl’s much more combative relationship with Julian and just how earnestly dumb Archie has become. We’re kicking off Season 7 with “Chapter 118: Don’t Worry Darling” this week on The Doghouse.

We’re back for the final season of Riverdale! Isn’t that exciting to say? The final season. But, before we get there, we have some unfinished business from Season 6 to get through. Yeah, yeah, we know - but look, it was a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad finale that, right at the end, somehow went in the exact direction we needed to finish off the show. So, settle in, folks, as we finally, FINALLY finish off this show. We’re talking about Season 6 finale “Chapter 117: Night of the Comet” this week on The Doghouse.

In almost every season of Riverdale up to this point, there’s been a penultimate episode that went so far off the rails that it brought the show back on. Somehow, the show jumped the shark so far, it actually made it fun to keep going. This season, they absolutely failed. Get ready for the (almost) final battle as we slog through “Chapter 116: The Stand” this week on The Doghouse.

We cannot stress enough how much needless exposition these writers crammed into this episode. There is nearly 15 minutes of pure exposition just crammed into various scenes and lines, all of which is a rehash of everything that has already happened this season. It’s as though the writers on this show do not believe the audience is smart enough to actually track the plot of this show. Which is probably fair, considering just how bonkers they’ve decided to make things. This time, though, it undercuts some really fun storylines and bits, all in the name of redundant storytelling. Yuck. Remember it’s just like opening a door as we discuss “Chapter 115: Return to Rivervale” this week on The Doghouse.

Hahaha what. No, seriously, what? There’s been a lot of baffling moments on this show in the past but the absolute weirdness of bringing Sabrina Spellman back a second time in this season is off the charts. Not only that, but our beloved show creator decided to get one last little chance to wrap up another failed series with a moment with Sabrina and JugNick, the most awkward 5 minute romance in this show’s history. Also some of our other faves die, but just for a night, as the ones taken by the plague are SO MUCH HAPPIER being gone, and bringing them back is literally just a plot point. Just…this show, y’all. Sign your name in the Maleficarum as we discuss “Chapter 113: The Witches of Riverdale” this week on The Doghouse.

We had to take some time off from our season after some life events, and now we’re back to finish off this season. And this episode does very little to make any progress in any real way. I mean, yes, there’s some wild biblical plagues being unleashed on the town of Riverdale, but as for everyone else? They’re just continuing to be their very boring, predictable selves, like Veronica, who decides to just break into Sondheim at a celebration of her friends’ wedding. Except for Jughead, he’s dealing with the fact that weird visions are coming to take his stories and oh yeah, there’s another one of him watching as he dies. Because he’s a firstborn child. Because that’s a real thing on this show. Grab your Bible and prepare for war as we discuss “Chapter 113: Biblical” this week on The Doghouse.

This show didn’t break us with an organ-harvesting cult. Didn’t destroy us with Edgar Evernever launching to heaven in an Evel Knievel rocket. It didn’t even keep us down forever after Archie got mauled by a bear. No, instead, it’s this episode, a boring, lackluster musical episode that simply took all the tension and through-lines of this season and flattened them as thin as a piece of paper. I mean, who cares who TBK is? Why bother creating parallels with the Core Four’s trauma and Percival’s attack on Riverdale? Anything for this show’s creator to introduce another failed musical for which, by the way, he wrote the book. This is one of Riverdale’s worst episodes yet, and that’s saying something folks. Dare to dive in as we discuss “Chapter 112: American Psychos” this week on The Doghouse.
