Submit ReviewJulian Assange has been one of the most divisive and talked-about figures of the past two decades. In 2006, Assange founded Wikileaks and came to international attention in 2010 after publishing a trove of leaked classified US military documents about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Alongside those documents Wikileaks published shocking footage that rippled around the world of a US airstrike in Baghdad in which an American crew shot down Iraqi civilians, including two staff working for Reuters news. For the publication of this classified information and other allegations, Assange has been a wanted man for many years.
Now, a large group of Australian politicians are joining forces to lobby the US government to stop their legal pursuit of Queensland-born Assange.
So, why after more than 10 years is this group of MPs stepping in now?
And will they succeed in finally bringing Assange home a free man?
