Cryptocurrencies known as stablecoins are meant to give investors some reassurance of value in an otherwise volatile market. But critics say a more recent breed of stablecoins backed by financial engineering rather than real-world assets, known as algorithmic stablecoins, are creating risks for investors even as they grow in popularity.
