Besides his work as a journalist for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Chicago Tribune and many other American newspapers, he was also the editor of the Tokyo Journal, and spent several years as a columnist and contributing editor at the Japan Times

David Benjamin is also the author of several novels and books including Three's a Crowd, The Life and Times of the Last Kid Picked, SUMO: A Thinking Fan's Guide to Japan's National Sport, and his most recent book Skulduggery in the Latin Quarter
