What gets you pumped to go out and play a gig? Is it the prestige? The adulation from the audience? Or is it the paycheck at the end of the night? Too often we find that the entertainer perceives themselves as someone who is either not worthy of charging a fair and equitable amount for their time and talent, or they’re afraid that someone else is going to play the gig for less money (or heaven forbid… FREE!). Unfortunately this mindset creates a snowball effect, where eventually artists are playing for low wages, tips only, or just for the exposure, hoping they’ll get discovered by someone. We’re the only industry with this business model, and it's time to work on ways to break that bad habit.

Angela McCuiston with Music Strong, is a powerful advocate for the musician, who wants to help others work towards creating a self worth, and eventually set the standard that they are viable, and have something to bring to the table when it comes to live performance.

The conversation between Angela and Bob is designed to hopefully create some dialogue with musicians, and possibly begin a course correction in establishing a market value for one’s services.

Angela McCuiston is a NASM-CPT, CES, SFS, and CETI-CES (Certified Personal Trainer and Corrective Exercise Specialist, Senior Fitness Specialist and Cancer Exercise Specialist) and owner of Music Strong, a business that specializes in personal fitness training for musicians.
