Themes in Discovery.

Spock is one of the most recognizable characters in Star Trek and represents the clash between logic and emotion. In Discovery, Michael Burnham carries forward this theme that has been part of the franchise from the start as she struggles to balance the need for both emotion and logic in her life. What other themes can be found in the first half of Discovery’s freshman season?

In this episode of The Edge, host Amy Nelson is joined by Brandi Jackola and Heather Barker to discuss themes found in Discovery and how they connect to our personal lives. We highlight power and manipulation, logic vs. emotion, making sacrifices for your passions, and fear vs. peace and safety. We also look at characters and how we relate to them on a personal level.
