It impacts far too many women which means the percentage of black women is even worse. Take the time to listen and hear our guest, Ms. Sasha Nicole, as she shares her experience and what she is doing to change our postpartum experience.

Success is not dependent upon your position as head of the class, nor is it singularly related to being voted most likely to succeed. In fact, you can create significant success without a far-reaching vision - But you do have to dream and believe, and you do have to be willing to do what most won't.
That was the not-so-secret trick that our guest today, Former Obama White House Official and current CEO of Values Partnerships and Gauge, knew and practiced. He found success despite not being the most prolific performer in school and not being the biggest visionary to dream a dream. That fact is what makes today's episode so powerful. Joshua has a message for those who don't wake up every day feeling like the world is their oyster. Today's episode is powerful, so please tune in and let Joshua help guide you to your gift.

How do we change the criminal legal system for the better? We do it standing with, beside, and behind folks like Ilham Askia and Sarah Higinbotham as they charge up the hill and fight battles that we can't afford to lose. We do it by supporting the public defenders who represent 80% of the people fighting for freedom in the system. We do it by providing powerful education to system impacted folks. We do it by exposing the problems, operating in empathy, and remaining diligent to the cause. We do it together and expectant of positive change.
Today's hyper-dynamic episode was designed by While Black friend and past guest Winfield Murray and features two women dedicated to the space of criminal legal reform. Surviving corporate America is best done with a dope friend group, some amazing stress management skills, and healthy doses of trained/professional help. Corporate can tear you apart and in many cases we help by believing that what we experience is normal or even a requirement for "the big bucks". If you are not careful our work lives can tear apart our entire lives and in some cases even end it.
Our guest this week, Kym Ali, has a story that will change your perception on how corporate America can impact your health and life. In Kym's case she experienced mental and physical impacts including heart attack that almost took her out. Thankfully, that wasn't the end of her story as a matter of fact in some ways it was the beginning and led to this amazing episode.

This is a preview of Power: Don King. Don King rose from a life of hardship and crime to become the most successful boxing promoter the sport has ever seen—the first Black man to do so. It was his own American Dream. Don’s flamboyant appearance, dizzying wit, and commanding personality made him a star in and out of the ring, as did his promotion of greats like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and even America’s musical dynasty, the Jacksons. But his less than honest exploits? They made him legendary. Don King may have taken advantage of his fighters and burned a lot of bridges, but he always seemed to find another. Power: Don King, the third installment of Somethin’ Else’s Power series tells the story of one of entertainment’s most controversial figures. Hosted by Panama Jackson, this season asks: What does it take to get to the top and stay there in a sport famed for money and excess? Listen and follow wherever you get your podcasts.

In the early 1900's black folks collectively owned about 20 million acres of land in the US and today we own less than 4%. Why is this the case should be your primary question. The answer is simple - Systematic land theft and its been a problem since we earned our 'freedom"
On this episode we sit down with Jillian Hishaw, an expert in the problem of systematic land theft, and listen as she breaks down the how and the why but also provides context on how big of a problem it still is today.

Education and specifically higher education (while not the only way) has a direct link to closing the wealth gap. This means the opportunity to advance our education at every level is critical and something the entirety of Black America should be focused on. Billionaire Robert Smith had the issue of access and funding for higher education squarely in his sights that day on Morehouse campus when he agreed to shoulder the student loan debt of 400+ graduates that day, but more importantly the idea for the Student Freedom Initiative was born.
What is the Student Freedom Initiative you may ask..... what I'll tell you is that it is an answer to the problem of how can I, he, she, and we afford college... it is a bridge over the troubled waters of financial inequity and it is the topic of todays episode. Mark Brown, executive director of The Student Freedom Initiative, joins us to talk the the need, the problem, and the solutions. His organization is equipped to support us while it teaches us how to pay forward the beautiful gift of a college education.

It's full of ups and downs, stress and strife, but also victory and blessings. While Black Family - We will continue our 4 part series featuring guests from small-town Mississippi next week. In the meantime, please enjoy a preview from an amazing podcast we think you will enjoy. Introducing Smoke Screen: The Sellout!
Jose Huizar grew up in Boyle Heights – a working-class Latinx neighborhood in L.A. Eventually, he became their councilperson. He ran on promises of solidarity and community. And, for the most part, people trusted Huizar... until the day the FBI raided his home and offices, looking for evidence of corruption. The Feds would go on to say that Huizar led a criminal enterprise based in city hall. He stands accused of taking bribes from luxury developers as his constituents were displaced from their homes.
This season of Smoke Screen is a collaboration with grassroots media organization L.A. TACO. In this 9-part investigative series, journalist and host Mariah Castañeda investigates how Huizar got the power to do what he did, and how the community that raised him paid the price. Smoke Screen: The Sellout is available now wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes drop every Tuesday.

Simply put - Get off your tail end and do it....build it...invest it....create it....GO NOW.
Our guest today, Mr Elton Pope brought the funny to the state of Mississippi in a big way. Thirteen years ago he noticed a void in the state and realized that Mississippians needed the space to laugh. With that realization he took it upon himself to carve a path, build a business, and find the success he wanted to see. Elton didn't have experience in comedy but he had initiative. He didn't have contacts but he had passion. He didn't know how to do what needed to be done, but he figured it out. What are you thinking or dreaming about now that you haven't moved on? TODAY is the day - MOVE and Elton gives the inspiration needed to make it happen.
The best time to take action on your idea was yesterday but the second best time is now!!!

Stories have played such an important role in our history and culture from the beginning, but as our influencer and impact on "cool" continues to grow so does this country's desire to tell, sell, and capitalize off of our stories. If we desire to change the system that we operate in then step one is to understand that system.

There are few stories as as perfectly fit for While Black as is this one.
Black people have long been significant contributors to American society and culture. We've done it time and time again against the odds and often with little to no credit. However, in this case, we celebrate the amazing story of the enslaved Nearest Green (Namesake of Uncle Nearest Whiskey) and Jack Daniel. Jack and Nearest enjoyed a relationship not often seen during enslaved times, which included Nearest mentoring Jack in the ways of whiskey and in turn Jack celebrating Nearest OUTLOUD. This amazing story of times passed laid the foundation for the Nearest brand to sore to record breaking heights today....and if that wasn't dope enough...its all led by a black woman...The amazing Fawn Weaver.

On this, our last installment of the powerful words series, we close out with a King delivering the words of a King. Martin Luther King III reads and performs for all of us the powerful words from his father last sermon from the pulpit of Ebenezer Baptist Church. The sermon is called the Drum Major Instinct and from its call for police to stand with black citizens to its discussion of how many of us fight to keep up with the "Jones's" it is hyper relevant.
During this session, there were moments that i had tears in my eyes. None more so than when Martin himself get a little chocked up as he read through his fathers words about his own funeral which we now know would end up being only a couple of months later. In this session, I realized that to us Dr Martin Luther King Jr was this larger than life figure that we respect and hold high because of what he did - but to MLKIII he was simply Dad. You get a chance to feel the real emotion in Martin when you realize that much like i miss my own father he misses his own.
This is a very special episode of While Black Presents "Powerful Words"
