Submit ReviewThis is gripping and hilarious from start to finish. Jess Phillips continues to be one of the most compelling communicators in British politics, as well as a powerful advocate for women's rights. She is also very funny and in this episode reveals her love of steamy fiction and her husband's detailed plan for a zombie apocalypse. Jess robustly defends the recent attack ads on Rishi Sunak and gives her take on 'that' Spitting Image sketch. You may not hear an interview as impassioned than this ever again.

The former leader of the Scottish Conservatives is on phenomenal form as she gives her heartfelt, considered and hilarious take on the state of Scottish and British politics. This is gripping from start to finish. Ruth is just as passionate taking on her own side's failings as she is those of her opponents, making this a thrilling listen. It's also emotional as Ruth talks about her son and parents. With Ruth, you're never far away from a crazy story and she some tales that no-one else in politics will have. It's a riot. Enjoy!

Johanna is the Chair of Labour's NEC and this is the most exciting chat about internal party machinery that you will ever hear. In fact, it's going to make you want to join a political party and get involved. It's a great inside account of what some of Labour's most infamous NEC meetings have been like, including the recent one that voted to bar Jeremy Corbyn from standing for the party. Johanna has so many great stories about helping the party function as a volunteer, what it's like having to chair party conference in an arena and how seating plans can defeat factionalism. It's a positive, optimistic and funny defence of political activism.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy is one of the true greats of broadcasting and he delivers an exceptional analysis of the state of British news. Not just of the BBC and Channel 4, but the whole thing. At times hilarious, this is a first-hand account of what it's like holding the powerful to account, live on TV. Clearly gifted from a young age, his TV career began at just 15. He recalls the surreal situation he found himself in: his own TV show before he'd even gone to university. As well as brilliant stories about his experiences with politicians (like Steve Baker), he also shares fascinating encounters with Robert Downey Jr, Quentin Tarantino and Jimmy Savile. This is an hour in the company of an exceptional broadcasting talent, blessed with remarkable clarity of thought.

Greg Dyke is so much more than a former Director General of the BBC. He's been at the top of various organisations that have shaped our national life and in this sparkling interview gives his verdict on the Gary Lineker controversy and what the rules should be for non-BBC News employees. Greg also reflects on the Hutton Report and the events surrounding his departure from the BBC, as well as sharing his insight on the pressures on any Director General. As former Chair of the FA (and Brentford), Greg gives his unique perspective on the runaway success of the Premier League that he helped found. Did he ever imagine it would end up here? Plus a couple of Brian Clough stories.

In the second SNP Leadership Special, Ash Regan outlines her plan to deliver independence as well as her plans to change the SNP. It's a candid conversation in which Ash also shares her concerns about how the contest is being run. Does her leadership campaign prove that SNP members who were once gradualists are becoming more fundamentalist? Would Ash keep the coalition with the Scottish Greens? Also, this is a conversation about how life turns out, and how things might have been different for Ash. If she'd continued living in England, would she even be in politics at all? And what do her children make of her campaign to run the country? It's a fascinating hour with someone determined to take Scotland in a different direction.

It's been quite the week for Kate Forbes, who's standing to be the next leader of the SNP and First Minister of Scotland. On maternity leave when Nicola Sturgeon resigned, Kate is now the most talked about politician in the UK. In this frank and open interview, she discusses her vision for the future of Scotland and the SNP. Kate also reflects on her personal resilience following the difficult birth of her daughter and how that's helped her in politics. It's a wide-ranging conversation about business, the economy and the role of government in our lives. It's also about faith in politics and the fundamentals of freedom of speech.

Keir Starmer returns to The Political Party in scintillating form. As well as sharing some hilarious stories, mainly about what his children say to him to keep him grounded, he talks openly about recent events, including his emotional trip to Ukraine to meet Volodmyr Zelensky. Keir is open about his strategy for changing the Labour Party and reflects on the decisions that led Labour to their current poll lead. The show it's a mix of serious politics and laugh out loud moments. Keir reacts to Nicola Sturgeon's resignation but also to THAT video of Dominic Raab eyeballing him in Parliament. It's an engrossing interview with a man on the verge of becoming Prime Minister.

This is a highly entertaining interview with the Political Editor of The Sun. Harry takes us into the modern world of the tabloid and explores The Sun's relationship with politics. How does it decide who to back at an election and has that decision been taken yet? How much politics does The Sun aim to cover? What is the balance between print and online. Ultimately this is an account of modern political journalism by a total political obsessive. It's a story about the relationship between newspapers and their readers, and why politics is about personalities.

Stewart McDonald is an ally of the First Minister and in this candid interview he reacts to the shock news of her resignation. Nicola Sturgeon bows out of Scottish politics at the very top, enjoying an unprecedented electoral record it is all but impossible to surpass. So why has she resigned now and what does it mean for the SNP, Scotland and the UK? What will she do next? And more importantly, what 'low and no' beers does Stewart recommend?

This is a riot. Emily and Jon are even more fun than you'd imagine.
They were already two of the biggest stars in broadcasting. Then their podcast, The News Agents, propelled them to even higher heights. They talk candidly about leaving the BBC and the risks involved. Both passionate about journalism and holding powerful people to account, they share hilarious stories from their encounters with Prince Andrew, Donald Trump and the things they saw at Davos. You won't want this to end.

Helen is one of Britain's most gifted journalists and after many years at The New Statesman is now staff writer at The Atlantic. She's also made an exceptional podcast called 'The New Gurus' which you have to listen to. The link is below. Having been a journalist since 2010, Helen has covered a number of major political and social changes and has found herself at the centre of various contentious debates, despite holding mainstream opinions. So what happened and why was she no-platformed by Stonewall? This is a brilliant account of the political changes of the last few years and they way they've been expressed. It's also a passionate defence of journalism and what it should be. Plus lots of cult chat. Enjoy!

What better way to celebrate the birth of Jesus than with Yvette Cooper, Emily Thornberry and a gin and tonic? This is the perfect end-of-year party with two of Labour's biggest stars. Yvette and Emily are on top form in this riotous first half. The Shadow Chancellor is on rollicking form in this hilarious, lively and impassioned interview. Rachel is steeped in economics, having worked for the Bank of England (at the same time Matt Hancock, more on that later). She sets out the dividing lines between herself and the Tories and explains the different decisions Labour would take if they win the next election. Rachel has only been Shadow Chancellor for a year and a half but in that time she has helped salvage Labour's economic credibility. She's also faced 4 Chancellors this year alone and gives us the inside story on how she prepares for each 'fiscal statement'. This is great fun with a politician at the top of their game.

Stephen was Chief Strategist to the Yes campaign in the 2014 independence referendum. Following that he trained to be a Jesuit priest and is now an academic at Edinburgh University. He's led a fascinating life and the last few years have led him to some very interesting conclusions. In this thoughtful and considered interview he explains how both sides of the constitutional debate in Scotland can win, but only if they're prepared to change the way politics is done. He also has some sober advice for the current First Minister.

The former Chair of the Conservative Party doesn't hold back in this revealing and heartfelt interview. He tells the inside account of both recent Conservative Leadership Elections and what he told Rishi Sunak about certain members of the government. Clearly concerned about the direction of the government, Jake explains his own brand of conservatism and why 'levelling up' is so important to him and his constituents. Jake also tells the hilarious story of when Boris Johnson jilted the Northern Research Group of Conservative MPs to go to Ukraine instead, leaving them all waiting at Doncaster Racecourse. This is a broadcasting legend as you've never heard him before. David Dimbleby is as thoughtful and incisive as you'd imagine, but he's also devilishly hilarious. Finally able to say what he really thinks, he delivers his analysis of politics, broadcasting, the BBC, the monarchy and pyjamas in that familiar voice. This is crammed with great stories about interviewing titans like Thatcher and Blair, as well as the reality of hosting election night TV and Question Time. It's one of the funniest and most fun episodes of the show ever recorded.

Gavin has a unique perspective on politics, government and the Conservative Party having served as both an MP and the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff. Unusually he was an MP first, but having lost his seat in 2017, was hired by Theresa May to be her most senior adviser. Gavin takes us inside the Brexit negotiations, with some surprising insights on some of Europe's major players. It's also a defence of Theresa May and the values of public service and how she contrasts with some of her successors...

When the Prime Minister could fall at any point, talk to someone who knows what should happen next.
Grant Shapps is that someone and has a very clear view on how the next Conservative leader should be chosen. He's a crucial power player and will be instrumental in any future leadership contest. Grant also has some brilliant stories about serving in Boris Johnson's Cabinet, what it was like doing the Covid TV briefings and how Liz Truss sacked him. As well as being a passionate advocate of centre-right pragmatism, he's also an optimist... despite some hellish life experiences that could easily have destroyed his positivity.
This is an impeccably timed interview with a fascinating politician at the centre of what happens next.

One of the most prominent public figures of the year demonstrates why he has captured the imagination of the country.
Mick Lynch has connected with people in a way that few union bosses ever will, with his dry sense of humour and direct style. He gives a fascinating insight into RMT negotiations with various transport companies, and tells us what happened off camera during some of his most notorious TV exchanges. He also reveals what his most conservative opinion is and why he'd never have a combover. It's gripping from the first minute and Mick even manages to make a discussion about the benefits of non-affiliation to the Labour Party sound entertaining. What better time to interview a moderate former Tory MP who spent 7 years in the Treasury?
David Gauke does not disappoint and is fully uncorked in this entertaining analysis of the Tories' current economic policy and the people driving it. David's story is fascinating. He went from leading Cabinet minister to ex MP within just a few months and now considers himself politically homeless. How did this happen to one of the Tories' most prominent and capable performers? It's probably not that hard to figure out but David tells his story with typical wit and warmth. He also reminisces about the coalition years, including the political legacy of austerity.

Patriotic. Principled. Hilarious. Tom Blenkinsop is all three of those things and so much more. This is full of brilliant stories of trade union fist fights, his father's involvement in D Day and searing political sense. Tom was the Labour MP for his hometown from 2010 to 2017. He stood down at the 2017 election in protest against Jeremy Corbyn's leadership. That was just one of many principled decisions Tom has taken in his life. He's a member of the Army Reserve and explains his support for monarchy and what it means to members of the armed forces. This is an absolute corker.

The charismatic (and cheeky) leader of Scottish Labour returns to the Political Party to boss Matt about again. Anas continues to be hilarious and profound in equal measur and speaks movingly about Scotland's role in the Empire, Labour politicians on picket lines and what becomes the major topic of discussion: Comic Con and the awful things he saw there. Best enjoyed with a big bag of jelly peaches. (It'll make sense).

Chancellor for ten years and Prime Minister for three, Gordon Brown is one of the most important and impactful politicians in British history. He's also a phenomenal raconteur and his anecdotes about Scottish football and Nelson Mandela will have you howling with laughter. With tales spanning his time in office and since, Gordon demonstrates why he's such a unique politician and character, just as animated today about inequality as he ever was. This is a glorious mix of high-level political insight, stirring emotion and massive laughs, making it one of the most special episodes of the podcast ever recorded.

One of the most popular, formidable and purely likeable politicians in the country returns for a cracking analysis of the Conservative Leadership race and the state of the Labour Party. To many, Alan is the greatest Prime Minister we never had and in this hilarious and honest chat, he shows why he's still so highly rated. Alan is a rare find in politics: an exceptional Cabinet-level talent who really didn't want to be Prime Minister. As well as all his other assets what he really has is warmth and this is ultimately an hour in the company of a very special and rare man.

This is the astonishing inside account of Prince Andrew's Newsnight interview. The details will blow your mind. Sam McAlister produced the show for years and was able to convince guests to give interviews when no-one else could. In her new book 'Scoops', she takes us behind the scenes of various interviews including Julian Assange, Steven Seagal and Amy Schumer. It's a fascinating inside account of how she manages to secure the biggest guests as well as honesty about the mistakes made along the way. The years spent trying to convince Prince Andrew to do the show, the meetings she had with him before, the experience of being in that room as the interview unfolds and then his reaction afterwards will all astound you.

Oh boy. This is a cracker. The Speaker of the House of Commons is a raconteur without equal and holds court in this riot of an episode. Passionate about democracy, impartiality and fairness, Lindsay Hoyle shows how you can make the Commons function more effectively without sacrificing its unique atmosphere. One episode with Lindsay really isn't enough, you'll be left wanting so many more stories from him. His tale about taking Nancy Pelosi to Coronation Street is one of the best you'll ever hear. Grab a crumpet and wash it down with a pint of Newton and Ridleys, we're going to Lancashire...

The first ever Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union delivers his comprehensive verdict on Boris Johnson's government. David is typically candid and gives a great insight into the Brexit negotiations and his relationship with Michel Barnier. He also tells us the reason he resigned from Theresa May's government when he did (and who he told in advance), plus the riveting story of how he came to call on Boris Johnson to resign. This is packed with brilliant inside stories from the most tumultuous period in recent history.

This is even better than you've imagined. Sharp, funny and full of passion, Gary Neville explains why he's become so politically motived in recent years and exactly what shaped his politics: from the sense of solidarity he got from Alex Ferguson, to the nuance he gets from his Conservative-supporting mother. Naturally funny, deeply thoughtful and charged with energy, you'll forget you're listening to an ex-footballer. Glory, glory Gary Neville.

Wes Streeting's profile is rising by the second. Touted as a future Prime Minister by allies and opponents, he's one of Labour's most impressive and compelling performers... and he's still only 39. Passionate, funny and blessed with a clarity of communication, it's no wonder he's the politician everyone is talking about. Wes has led an incredible life and so some of his relatives. You are about to be thoroughly entertained by one of the best raconteurs in the history of the show. Andrew Marr is one of the most gifted broadcasters that Britain has ever produced and he shares hilarious stories from his wonderful career. Now that he's left the BBC he can be honest about what he really thinks and his analysis of British politics is exceptional. This is a show packed with powerful moments, including the mistakes Andrew thinks the media made in their coverage of Iraq, and his experiences of interviewing leading politicians like Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn. Andrew Marr isn't just a gifted journalist, he's fantastic company. Enjoy!

Rosena Allin-Khan isn't like most politicians. As well as being one of Labour's brightest frontbench talents, she's also an A&E doctor. She served on the frontline throughout the pandemic, before the vaccine and before PPE. Her heroism doesn't stop there. Rosena recently visited Ukraine to help deliver humanitarian aid. She talks about both of these experiences and so much more in this spellbinding interview which was part of the rescheduled Christmas Special. So. have some mulled wine, a mince pie and a full Christmas Dinner and enjoy!

Rosie Duffield's election in 2017 was a national news story, she became the first ever Labour MP for Canterbury. In 2019 her majority increased tenfold. She tells the remarkable story of how she became a politician in the first place and how she won the unwinnable, twice. Rosie has only been an MP for five years but in that time has made a name for herself as someone who speaks her mind, however uncomfortable the subject matter. At times an emotional listen, Rosie opens up about challenging the establishment, including her own party. This is politics straight from the heart.

It's Chriiiistmaaas! The rescheduled Christmas Special is a cracker. Mixing the hilarious with the serious and the personal, Jacob Rees-Mogg shares his view of the Prime Minister, how he personally deals with disagreement and abuse, as well as the things in life that annoy him - especially about written communication. More importantly, what does he make of Matt's impersonations of Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak? And will Matt dare to do his Jacob Rees-Mogg impression to the man himself..? This is a thoughtful and funny hour with one of the most prominent politicians in the country.

One of the best guests in the history of the show returns. James Cleverly loves being a Foreign Office minister and tells Matt about the realities of the job and how the UK is perceived around the world. Regularly on the airwaves defending the government, James is a powerful advocate for the people and causes he believes in and he talks openly about why he's so keen to be publicly supportive. He also talks honestly about class, race and the impact of the job on his family and, in a more surprising theme of the show, which ministers are and aren't 'manscaped'. It's a classic.

Everyone's favourite Conservative comedian joins Matt for a brilliant discussion about class and politics. As well as touring and appearing on various TV shows, Geoff is also on the BBC Diversity Board and tells Matt exactly what it involves and why he's so passionate about increasing class representation at the BBC. The pair also discuss the realities of being a right-of-centre comedian. Would Geoff ever vote Labour? If so could he ever tell his audience? How do his fans feel about the Tories at the moment? And would he ever stand for Parliament? It's full of insights not just about Conservative voters and what motivates them, but also about what Labour needs to do to win an election again.

Strap in for the best briefing on the Spring Statement you're going to get. Paul Johnson from the IFS returns to explain everything. This is an enthralling independent analysis of Rishi Sunak's announcements this week and the impact they're likely to have. More than that, it puts the public finances and the current global economic forces into context. How does this crisis compare to the 1970s and 1990s? What can the Bank of England really do about inflation? Would a windfall tax on energy companies work? Will the fuel tax cut have any effect? Paul answers all these questions and more in his typically brilliant way.

The first declared candidate in the next Tory leadership contest paints a sharp contrast with the current Prime Minister. Tom served in Iraq and Afghanistan and his shock at our withdrawal from Afghanistan is still raw. A clear thinker with strong values, Tom is a powerful communicator and offers a type of Conservativism many would prefer. He also loves Haribos and reveals which MP he's seen naked. So, something for everyone.

This is a masterclass in political strategy. Blair McDougall ran the Better Together campaign in the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, which resulted in Scotland voting to stay in the UK. He tells the inside story of the referendum, but also delivers nuggets of pure political gold on how to reject your opponent's framing and how to exploit weakness in an opponent's argument. Blair also takes a longer view on what strategies have and haven't worked since 2014. This is political judgement at its clearest and calmest.

One of Labour's greatest ever leaders and one of British politics' greatest ever stars returns to thrill and move in equal measure. Neil Kinnock is still blessed with a command of language and sharp wits that very few politicians will ever get near. Reminiscing about being a Labour leader having to expel the hard left draws an irresistible parallel with the present, and Neil shares his analysis of Keir Starmer's leadership and the lessons he learned in making the party more electable. Neil is also a man with immense heart and this show is, at times, deeply emotional. Pour yourself a single malt, you'll be forgiven for tearing up.

Glasgow politics is never dull and Mhairi Hunter has a unique perspective on it. She's been a councillor there for 10 years and faces re-election this May. She also worked in the constituency office of one of Glasgow's MSPs, Nicola Sturgeon. Glasgow is often at the centre of international attention, often hosting major events, from the Commonwealth Games to COP26. With the prestige also comes pressure and Mhairi gives a great insight into the issues the Council faces as a result. She also shares her experience of working for Nicola Sturgeon and why certain rumours about the First Minister might be completely false.

Raucous, outrageous but also philosophical and thoughtful, this is an evening in the company of a true political fighter. Edwina Currie refuses to be pigeonholed. She simultaneously embodies the values of ambition and aspiration but is also a formidable campaigner against prejudice. This is a fascinating ride through social history, the changing role of women in politics and what it means to be a Conservative. Edwina shares her experience of being a Conservative Minister under Margaret Thatcher and yes, reflects on the leadership and character of John Major. Strap in.

This is about way more than just politics. Since leaving Number 10, Craig has been reflecting on his life and why he'd always found it a grind. There's an important lesson in how we judge those who work in politics. To the outside world, it may have looked like Craig had it all. But he's never been comfortable with himself and in taking time out, has been forced to confront why. This is a deeply personal and reflective interview about the way we live our lives, and what the political implications of that are. Of course there are more overtly political moments and Craig gives his assessment of the storm engulfing current Prime Minister Boris Johnson. For the main, this is something a bit different to the usual, a calming experience that may help you find inner peace. Which might be handy for those currently working in Number 10, or those of us who read about what they've been up to.

Even by Alastair Campbell's standards this is superb. Passionate, direct, funny with occasional outbreaks of self-deprecation, it's the perfect way to start 2022. Alastair sets off at lightning pace, giving direct advice to Labour on how to campaign against the government. He shares his frustration with the recent BBC series about new Labour, reflects on his own changing sense of national identity and recalls a confrontation with a litter lout. He also answers the question: is he woke? There's so much in this episode that a blurb cannot do justice to. Enjoy!

There's not a journalist in the country whose work has dominated the political agenda like Pippa Crerar. She has dropped bombshell after bombshell during the pandemic, including the exclusive on Dominic Cummings' trip to Barnard Castle and the explosive revelations about Downing Street Christmas parties. Pippa tells Matt how big stories like these happen, the work that goes in behind-the-scenes and how they snowball. It's a thrilling insight into how journalists hold the powerful to account and the relationships they have with politicians and advisers. Merry Christmas!

Jeremy Hunt is an optimist and his positive attitude towards life shines out throughout this entertaining and revealing interview. He shares great stories and insights from his time as Foreign Secretary, Health Secretary and Culture Secretary - including his candid take on the Murdoch bid to takeover BSkyB. It's his time at Health that is most fascinating and he is open and philosophical about his successes and failures in the job. He's philosophical in general and has a great approach to politics which is inspirational. The contrast with the current incumbent of Number 10, who Jeremy stood against in the 2019 Leadership Election, is irresistible.

Packed full of incredible stories from inside the Trump White House and never-before-heard details about Steve Bannon, this is even better than you'd hope. It's a fantastic analysis of recent American politics, including how Trump appealed to blue collar America and why Anthony was initially attracted to the project. This is a story about how quickly politics changes. Gemma Doyle was elected the MP for her hometown in 2010 with a massive majority. Then the 2014 independence referendum happened, upending Scottish politics. A year later Gemma lost her seat to the SNP on a 34% swing. Then Jeremy Corbyn became leader of the Labour Party. This is a refreshingly honest account of what it's like to be a Labour politician of this generation. Gemma worked for Labour in government, became an MP in opposition and saw British politics completely transform. No longer an MP, she is still involved with the party and she explains why, when others left, she decided to stay.

You are about to hear something very special. Anas Sarwar is a captivating politician, blessed with a unique ability to transfix an audience and move them emotionally. This is somehow mixed with another ability. The ability to dance so well it creates complete chaos at a live podcast recording. It's an instant classic of an episode and includes Anas' analysis of how Labour can recover in Scotland and across the UK, the racism he has faced throughout his life and issues of national identity and privilege. It also contains massive laughs, largely at Matt's expense as Anas starts to take over the night. Enjoy!

Kinnock is on a mission to make Labour electable... sound familiar? Stephen Kinnock is very much his own man and his own politician, and his new project 'Labour Renaissance' has published a fascinating report into the voters Labour lost and what the party can do about it. This is a brilliant analysis of where Labour has gone wrong, combined with practical recommendations about how it reconnects with the public. Kevin Brennan isn't a typical MP and although he studied PPE at Oxford, he certainly doesn't fit the stereotype. A man of varied interests and talents, he's just recorded an album with a Sex Pistol. If you're not watching the new Labour documentary on the iPlayer, what is the matter with you? The new series has got everyone talking about the Blair and Brown era and one man who knows it inside out is John Rentoul. He wrote the definitive biography of Tony Blair and along with Jon Davies runs a course at King's College about new Labour. This is a great accompaniment to the BBC series, challenging some of the assumptions and narratives of the time, and some of the theories since. It's also highly relevant to the current situation Labour is in...

This is pragmatism as its most inspirational. Anna Turley is here to sort stuff out and is passionate about solving problems. She was the Labour MP for Redcar until 2019 when the toxicity of Jeremy Corbyn's leadership turned a proud Labour seat into a Tory gain. Anna describes how she was simultaneously trying to mitigate the catastrophic loss of the steel industry in the area, while fighting a legal case against Unite the Union and a hard left website. On top of that, she had to deal with the far right and, incredibly, those on the left who were helping them. Ultimately this is a hopeful tale of using public office to change things for the better.

Get comfy on the sofa because you are in for a treat. Gabriel Milland is one of the country's finest opinion researchers. After working alongside Michael Gove and Dominic Cummings at Education, he was Special Adviser to the Prime Minister from March to July 2020. Gabriel takes us inside Number 10 during the first months of the pandemic and his role in tracking public opinion during that time. This is a treasure trove of political insights, many of which may contradict perceived wisdom. A fascinating insider account of being at the heart of government during a global crisis, this is also a cautionary tale for Labour. Siobhan has done it all. As a senior civil servant she advised both the new Labour and coalition governments before leaving to stand for office herself. In 2012 she ran for London Mayor as an independent and finished just behind the Lib Dems. It was an incredible achievement and underlined her appeal as a charismatic and impressive politician. In this fascinating interview she describes the elation and frustration of that campaign and the way independent candidates are locked out of key parts of the process. Siobhan was going to stand for the mayoralty again in 2021 and was the Lib Dem candidate until she stood down and eventually left the party. She explains how she came to that decision and why she and so many others still feel so frustrated with the state of British politics.

This is the most emotional episode of The Political Party ever recorded. Roh Yakobi was tortured by the Taliban when he was just 12. In this deeply moving interview he tells us his remarkable life story, including the brutal reality of being governed by the Taliban. He also speaks of his despair for his family and friends, particularly his female cousin, now that the Taliban are back in control. Roh is now a fellow at the Human Security Centre, having moved to Wolverhampton. A Labour member, his experience of growing up in Afghanistan has had a profound effect on his politics and his analysis of the West's foreign policy is devastating.

Pat represents Wolverhampton South East and there are sobering lessons for Labour, especially for its relationship with the working class. With his no-nonsense style, this is Pat taking the Labour Party by the lapels and giving it to it straight.

This is the brilliant inside story of how Joe Biden won the Democratic nomination and The White House, told by Isaac Dovere, the lead political correspondent for The Atlantic. It begins analysing Obama's legacy inside and outside of the party, includes insights from voters who backed Obama twice and voted for Trump, assesses why candidates like Buttigieg, Bloomberg, Warren and Sanders were unable to defeat Biden... and how popular the politics of AOC and Ilhan Omar are with the wider party. In short, it's a corking summary of an incredible period in American politics.

Chloe reflects on some of the big moments in her life and career, including her recent announcement that she is clear of breast cancer. Trying to make sense of everything on and off the pitch, Matt is joined by the Shadow Minister for Further Education and Skills - and massive football fan - Toby Perkins. The positivity about a wonderful tournament for England and the stand that they took against racism has been tainted by the violence and racism of a hardcore minority. How can football fully rid of itself of its violent and regressive elements? Is this just an England problem?
Warning: contains the emotional and incoherent ramblings of a football fan trying to come to terms with it all.

This is the Labour leader as you've never heard him before. Appearing in front of a live audience for perhaps the first time since he took the job, Keir Starmer shares some hilarious stories from his time in law and politics. Including the full story of what happened when he met that pub landlord in Bath. He candidly reflects on his first year in charge and how he handles pressure, but also outlines his intentions for the future of the Labour Party and how he thinks they can win the next election. Oh and he also has a helpful tip for any budding impressionists who might do his voice on Spitting Image...

Louise Casey is one of a kind. A uniquely gifted public servant, she has been a fearless champion of the most vulnerable people in society at the highest level. In this deeply personal interview, Louise recalls her experience of helping to tackle some of the UK's toughest social problems and how she's had to continually deliver uncomfortable truths to the most powerful people in the country. Louise is also hilarious and the interview is peppered with fantastic behind-the-scenes stories.
This gripping discussion covers everything: the hard lessons Louise learned in that first role as Homelessness Czar, the scale of the social problems we face as a country and some frank personal reflections about how the tabloids wrote about her. Louise's reflections on the Rotherham paedophile scandal are particularly shocking, so be warned that the details are severe.

He has a unique antenna for public opinion and has a detailed knowledge of constituencies and what results in different parts of the country mean. Now the Senior Political Analyst at Lexington Communications, Greg explains what the 6 May election results really mean for all the major parties and what the results in Scotland mean for the cause of Scottish independence. This is the sort of top-level briefing usually reserved for Prime Ministers, so settle back into a big leather chair, dim the lights and pretend you're at the heart of power...

Brace yourself for the most entertaining conversation you'll ever hear about Parish Councils, with Britain's favourite local government official. Jackie Weaver shot to fame for her chairing of a notorious Handforth Parish Council meeting and she updates us on what's happened since. Jackie also tells Matt why she went into local government and why she'd rather be council officer than an elected official. This isn't just a funny exploration of very local politics, it's about how human beings achieve things.

Episodes like this are why this podcast exists. Shaun Bailey is the Conservative candidate for Mayor of London, but his life could have taken a very different path. He tells Matt about how close he came to getting involved in gangs at a young age and the role that his mother, uncle and Star Wars played in keeping him away from a life of crime. Shaun also explains how growing up black and working class led him to join the Conservatives. This is a thought-provoking, frank and entertaining exploration of how our politics is born out of our personal experiences - and not always in the way that others might presume.

The elected mayor of Bristol explains how he handled the delicate politics of both events and the wider politics and history of the city. He also shares his own political philosophy in this candid interview reflecting on the challenges he still faces as a result of his race and class.
