Submit ReviewShow 46 - Do You Know the Rules?
Welcome everyone to the long overdue Show 46 of the Fan Film Boyz Podcast. On this show Rob and Dave talk about the unauthorized Gremlins fan film ‘Gremlins: Recall’. This fun film has a runtime of just over ten minutes and was published in December of 2017. This short film is set 30 years after the original Gremlins movie. A company called Wing has managed to create Mogwais that can be adopted as family pets, without the whole Gremlin thing happening. When a teenage waitress interferes with a Wing drivers cargo of recalled Mogwais trouble of course erupts.
This film stars Katherine Rodriguez, Randy Irwan, Sarah Lilly and Robert Wood and was written and directed by Ryan Patrick. Rob and Dave as usual go into a lot of detail about this fan film what we liked, and didnt like, as well as about the original Gremlins movie.
So sit tight, and if it’s after midnight DO NOT feed your Magwais or get them yet and listen as Rob and Dave discuss Gremlins: Recall.

Show 45 - Sing me a Sirens Song!
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 45 - Sing me a Sirens Song! On this show Rob and Dave talk about the amazing motion comic ‘Siren of Dathomir’ by artist Joe Hogan. This unofficial motion comic follows the investigation by ARC Trooper Captain Fordo on the planet of Dathomir. Several Clone Troopers have already gone missing, and the Republic has no idea why, but there's a strange sound disturbance that might just be the explanation. Siren of Dathomir is over nine minutes long and has over 230 thousand views on YouTube since it was first published on July 6, 2012.
Rob has been following and been a huge fanboy of Joe Hogan’s art for a long time, and even commissioned him to create an original Star Wars art piece featuring Obi Wan and his son (Rob’s son that is) walking through the deserts of Tatooine. Rob and Dave talk in depth about this fan film, Dave also offers his follow up apology for some of his comments on our previous show about Hunt for Gollum. In this weeks Comic Corner Dave and Rob follow up and discuss Rob’s homework the X-Box game Mass Effect.
So strap on your ARC Trooper armor, and make sure that you pack your earplugs to block out the Sirens song as Rob and Dave discuss Joe Hogan’s Siren of Dathomir.

Show 44 - My Precious!
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 44 - My Precious! On this Show Rob and Dave talk about the Lord of the Rings fan film Hunt for Gollum. This is the first time that the Fan Film Boyz have discussed a Lord of the Rings fan film and there is a lot to talk about!
Hunt for Gollum is a 39 minute fan film with over 13 million views on YouTube, and over 44 thousand likes (that’s just over 3% of views are likes). It was published by Independent Online Cinema on May 8, 2009. The film is actually a prequel to the LotR and is about Aragorn and Gandalf’s long search for the mysterious Gollum. The film was directed by filmmaker Chris Bouchard and was shot almost entirely in England with a large team, and post production was done almost entirely online with a equally as large team. Bouchard has actually moved into the mainstream and is co-director of a new film ‘The Little Mermaid’ which is set for a August 2018 release on Netflix.
Hunt for Gollum is a spectacular fan film that was very well written, acted and filmed yet it seems to be let down by small issues that Rob and Dave go over in this show.
So make sure you remember to pack your friendly Hobbit companion, sit back and listen as Rob and Dave discuss Hunt for Gollum

Show 43 - This is just a Prelude!
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 43 - This is just a Prelude! On this Show Rob is joined by a very special guest co-host Melissa from the ‘Brook Reading Podcast’. Melissa is not a fan film maker but a fellow New Jersey Podcaster who loves Star Trek so who better to chat with when talking about the mega Star Trek fan fan ‘Prelude to Axanar’, the fan film that almost ended all Star Trek fan films!
Axanar is an independent production that set out to prove that anyone can make a quality film on a budget and that the backing of a large studio is not always needed. One of the most expensive fan films that we have talked about to date, Axanar had a budget of approximately $80,000 (most of which came from a VERY successful Kickstarter campaign) as well as using some known actors and actresses.
Alec Peters creator of Axanar is one of those people that you either love or hate, and this film has its own controversy surrounding it from its budget, to the Lawsuit between CBS and Paramount Vs Axanar that lead to the creation of the first ever fan film rules and regulations that must be followed in order to create a Star Trek fan film and Rob and Melissa go deep into this controversy!
On the ‘The Brook Reading Podcast’ Melissa reads and discusses various books, all while sitting next to a brook, hence the name. Make sure that you follow her on Twitter and Subscribe to her Podcast where ever you listen to your podcasts.
SO get ready for Scottie to beam you up as Rob and Melissa talk about the Star Trek fan film ‘Prelude to Axanar’!

Show 42 - Check out the Effects, they are Massive!
Welcome to the Fasn Film Boyz Podcast Show 42 - Check out the Effects, they are Massive! On this Show Rob and Dave sit down to discuss the fan film Mass Effect: Red Sand. This is a prequel fan film to the hugely successful video game series Mass Effect developed by BioWare and originally released in November, 2007. IN the game which is a action role-playing, third-person shooter you play as Commander Shepard whose has been given the rather large and seemingly impossible mission of saving the galaxy. In this Show’s ‘Comic Corner’ Dave will go into more detail about the game including its lore because he is a BIG Mass Effect fan.
Red Sand has over 203 thousand views on YouTube with over 4.8 thousand likes (Thats 2.36% if you do the math, wait I did it for you!), and was released on November 25, 2013 by Machinima. As already stated the fan film is a prequel to the game being set 35 years before the time of Commander Shepard. The film tells the story of the discovery of ancient ruins on Mars. These ruins would provide a huge advancement in human technology as well as providing a powerful, but dangerous power source known as Element Zero that some choose to use as a drug to enhance their abilities. A really cool aspect of this fan film is that the actor who plays Colonel Jon Grissom, Mark Meer is actually the voice actor who provided the voice of Commander Shepard in the games!
So sit back and load yourself up on some Element Zero if you have any as Rob and Dave discuss the fan film Mass Effect: Red Sand.

Show 41 - I am He-Man!
Welcome everyone to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 41 - I am He-Man! On this show Rob and Dave discuss the Masters of the Universe fan film Fall of Grayskull. This is our monthly tie in show with the Super Movie Bros Movie Cocktail episode that was also released this past weekend on the movie Masters of the Universe starring Dolph Lundgren. This Movie Cocktail was very fun to record because we all have different memories of this movie from our childhood, a lot of which probably made us look at this fan film differently.
Fall of Grayskull is a 36 minute fan film written and directed by Daniel Benedict, and stars wrestler Brian Cage as He-Man, Mercedez Varble as Teela, and Kevin Clark as Skeletor. It already has over four hundred and thirty eight thousand views on YouTube and was only released in January 2016. Rob and Dave go into a lot of detail about this fan film, what we enjoyed, and also what we didn’t like (and spoiler, this wasn’t on of our favorite fan films to discuss!)
So sit back on your own throne, raise your swords and shout with us ‘I have the Power! And listen as Rob and Dave discuss Fall of Grayskull.

Show 40 - He who wears the Red Hood!
Welcome everybody to the Fan Film Boyz Show 40 - He who wears the Red Hood! On this show Rob and Dave talk and discuss the RobotUnderdog2 fan film ‘Red Hood IT’. This fan film is as the title states about the Red Hood (the alias of the former Robin, Jason Todd) and the clown that never dies Pennywise. This fan film is just over sixteen minutes long and packs a lot of action (but unfortunately very little story) into its run time.
If you are a Batman fan, then you already know that the Red Hood is as we already stated the former Robin Jason Todd who was killed by The Joker and somehow came back to light. In this film he meets Stephen King’s Pennywise the Clown from the book IT and there are plenty of balloons to go around.
On this show Robert and Dave also start a new section of the podcast called Comic Corner where they discuss and talk about the homework that Dave has given Robert to read, this time we discuss the comics ‘Under the Red Hood’, ‘Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth’, and ‘Joker’ by Brian Azzarello.
So make sure you are prepared to get wet because they all float down here, and listen as the Fan Film Boyz discuss ‘Red Hood IT’.

Show 39 - Born a Hellraiser!
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 39 - Born a Hellraiser! On this show Rob, Dave and Marc discuss the Hellraiser fan film ‘No More Souls’ by Vicious Yellow Jacket. So why a Hellraiser fan film you ask? Well this is our regular tie-in show with the Super Movie Bros Movie Cocktail Podcast (stay with me), if you have listened to the last Movie Cocktail you know we discussed Dave’s pick of Event Horizon, now we could not find any Event Horizon fan films SO Dave suggested a Hellraiser fan film because Clive Barker is the creator of the Hellraiser series and he was also a consultant on Event Horizon, so with the six degrees rule in play it all makes sense now right!
Hellraiser No More Souls is one of the few fan films that is has a tie to the original series, it is produced by the Make-up and FX team from the original series and at just over six minutes it is a very interesting fan film. FFB Rob has never seen any of the Hellraiser movies so Dave and Marc take a lot of the lead in this review and have a lot of interesting things to share.
So get your sewing kits ready (that’s a Pinhead joke) and sit back as Rob, Dave and Marc talk about Hellraiser, No More Souls.

Show 38 - When life gives you Apples!
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 38. The Fan Film Boyz have a very special show this week (and let us apologize for being dark for a few weeks), this week FFB Rob spoke with and interviewed Amanda Taylor and Kailee Brown of Apple Juice Productions. Apple Juice Productions is a group of amazing women who are dedicated to telling female-centric stories, they do this by giving them a voice both on and off the screen.
Apple Juice Productions are the creators of the ‘Lily Evans Series’ of fan films based on Lily Evans (of course) and James Potter parents of that famous Wizard, Harry Potter. The first film in the series ‘Lily Evans and the Eleventh Hour’ follows Lily and her best friend Alice Fawley as they get themselves involved in the upcoming war with ‘He who should not be named’ with the help of The Marauders! The second film ‘Lily Evans and the Stroke of Midnight’ is about the groups final year at Hogwarts and Lil, James and their friends are drawn deeper into the conflict.
Amanda, Kailee and Rob talk about fan films, what it takes to make and complete them and most importantly, why fan films? Apple Juice Productions are also in the final days trying to raise money to help cover the costs of creating the Ultimate Lily and James wedding! Check out the page at https://www.applejuicepro.com/wedding.html and consider helping out, the Fan Film Boyz already did!

Show 37 - It’s your friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man!
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 37. On this show we go back to our usual review show and Rob and Dave and guest host Marc Dickerson talk about ‘Marvel Knights: Spider-Man’. A few weeks ago we put up a March Madness style poll on Twitter and asked out listeners and followers what type of fan film that they wanted us to review. The first poll was between Star Wars/Star Trek, Marvel/DC, Harry Potter/Video Games, and Other. With 33% each of the total 49 votes it was a tie between Star Wars/Star Trek and Marvel/DC. Pol 2 narrowed down to these four got 47 total votes and with 34% of the Votes Marvel was the winner. Finally Poll 3 was between four Marvel Fan Films, Young Avengers, Marvel Knights, Domino and Avengers. With 30% of the 43 total votes Marvel Knights was the choice.
Marvel Knights: Spider-Man by madeLEGITmedia was released on YouTube in 2016 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. It was originally released as five separate episodes, and was then edited together as a full length film and released on Aug 15, 2016. Now think of every Spider-Man character and villain from the comics and movies and they are in this film at some point. This very ambitious film is well shot, but falls short when it comes to acting. As mentioned on this show we are joined by Marc Dickerson who is a co-host of Movie Cocktail and is a filmmaker and he offers some great insights to this film
On this show we also share a promo from a new podcast tha Rob has been listening to called ‘The Brook Reading Podcast’, and just a reminder the Fan Film Boyz are Promo Partners with Geekfest Film Festivals the first and largest travelling Comic Con Film Festival. Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 35. ‘Stranger Things: The Story of Henry and Dale’ is just over six minutes and tells the story of two obscure characters that were briefly mentioned in the Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’. This film is really well done and a lot of effort went into the story as well as time spent to make the production quality top shelf. Rob and Brittany talk about this film, as well as her other films, the fan film awards and film making in general.

Show 34 - I’m a Mario are you?
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 34. The week Rob and Dave are talking about the fan film Mario Warfare by Beat Down Boogie. Mario Warfare is a Super Mario Brothers fan film and is a special tie in show with the Super Movie Bros Movie Cocktail episode also releasing today where we talk about the Super Mario Brother movie starring Bob Hoskins, oh and today March 10 just happens to also be MARIO DAY!
If you grew up in the nineties or two thousands then you probably grew up playing some sort of Super Mario Brothers game. From Mario Brothers on the old NES to Mario Kart on the Nintendo 64, Mario was everywhere. And let's be honest, who doesn’t love those brother plumbers! On Movie Cocktail Dave, Marc, Jay and Rob go into a lot of detail about the Super Mario Brothers movie, but on this show we dive deep into the fan film.
Mario Warfare originally started as a web series by Beat Down Boogie but it has now been recut and release as a single film. Created written and directed by Michah Moore, and staring Matthew Sumner as Mario, Jarod Kearney as Luigi and Alena Koch as Peach, this recut film is over a hour long and was published in December 2015. Since then it has already been viewed over 11 million times!

Show 33 - I am a Weapon.
It’s time again for another Fan Film Boyz show, and this time Rob and Dave discuss the fan film ‘Weapon X’ by Tilted Panda. This film is of course about the Marvel comic character Weapon X, more commonly known as Logan or Wolverine. As you would expect from a film about Wolverine blood will flow and the animal inside him does not like to play nice!
This is a quick four minute fan film, however, there is a lot to talk about and breakdown (which we will do in detail). Dave the FFB resident comic expert will go over more background of Wolverine and schools Robert on what comics are best to read. Aaron Toft is Weapon X, and he is also the stunt choreographer for the film. Aaron had sent the FFB an email about this film a few months ago (sorry Aaron for not replying sooner) explaining how and why the film was made and we also go over this in the show. Not only does the film have a lot of action, it also tells a very interesting story with the use of narration, as if you are in Wolverines head hearing what he is thinking, and this is something different from other fan films.

Show 32 - Talking Film Festivals with Eric Vollweiler
Film festivals are growing and popping up all across the United States and internationally, some are huge and well known, some are small and obscure, all of them have a goa; to help filmmakers get noticed. On Show 32 Fan Film Boy Rob has the pleasure of talking with Eric Vollweiler who is a Producer and Marketer of many film festivals in the US including the Garden State Film Festival in New Jersey, the Silicon Beach Film Festival in Florida and the Artemis Women in Action Film Festival in California. We talk about festivals in general, how they are run, how they are set up and what is involved in making a successful film festival.
Rob and Eric do not talk specifically about fan films, however, a lot of fan film makers are also or move into indie films and getting their films into festivals can really increase audience size and possibly even lead to a distribution deal. With the increase of festivals, and the increase of indie films and filmmakers things are only going to get better.
So get your popcorn warmed, sit back in your favorite chair and relax as we talk about film festivals with Eric Vollweiler.

Show 31 - Darkest What?
Welcome to Show 31 - Darkest What? On this show Fan Film Boy Rob and Super Movie Bros Dave discuss Dave’s choice of film ‘Green Lantern: Darkest Night fan film’ by Little Demon Films. Dave is the Fan Film Boyz resident comic specialist and really shows his expertise on this show as we go into great depth about the Green Lantern character, his background and of course the original Darkest Night storyline. This film is not one of the better fan films that we have discussed and Rob and Dave really go into depth with discussing why it has its fault.
The Green Lantern is a DC Comics character and is not just one person which is not something that FFB Rob knew, it is in fact a series of superheros that fight evil with the aid of a ring that gives them their powers. The film also attempts to bring in the other rings that all have powers, some for good, some evil and these are called the Green Lantern Corp.
So slip on your ring, feel the power and join us as well discuss the ’Green Lantern: Darkest Night fan film.

The Cold Dance is a finalist in the Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Film Categories as well having the actress Ashley Van Egeren, who plays Nora up for the Best Actress category and Ross Bugden in the Best Soundtrack category.

On this show FFB Rob discusses this with David, we talk about the film, the Fanfilm Awards and what went into making this film.

Show 28 -John Hughes and Star Wars?
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 28 - John Hughes and Star Wars? On this show Rob and Dave are again joined by Jay of the Super Movie Bros after recording the latest Movie Cocktail episode on 'Weird Science'. This show we tie in the Fan Film Boyz and Movie Cocktail again and we discuss the fan film Hughes the Force that was written, produced, and directed by J.C Reifenberg.
Hughes the Force was first released in May 2012 and is about two high school teens that are tortured by jocks and of course rejected by girls, when they are invited to a huge end of year party it comes with a catch, they have to bring a hot girl to get entry. Hughes the Force is a mesh of several different films, most noticeably Weird Science and Star Wars, with a sprinkling of Indiana Jones and Back to the Future references thrown in. We discuss this on the show including as well as the the differences between an omage vs a fan film, and whether have well known actors/actresses in a fan film gives it more street cred (spoiler alert there are some well known people in Hughes the Force).
So grab your lightabers and blasters, make sure that your Slave Leia is close by and join us as we discuss Hughes the Force!

Show 27 - The thing Myths and Legends are born from!
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 27 - The thing Myths and Legends are born from! First of all we have a big announcement this Show, Dave of the Super Movie Bros Podcast who has been filling in as co-host for the past few Shows has officially become the new permanent co-host of the show, so welcome Dave!
If you did a search on YouTube on Predator Fan Films you will actually find a lot of them. Almost all of them are similar to the original 1987 movie ‘Predator’ starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a soldier of fortune hired to rescue politicians, instead his team becomes the hunted in the jungle by the Predator. However, if you go through the fan films, one will stand out as very different then the rest, and this is the film that the Fan Film Boyz discuss on this show ‘Predator: Dark Ages’.
Predator: Dark Ages was first published on YouTube in May 2015 and has already impressively been viewed over five million times, and was a winner of the ‘Best Fan Film’ at the Tri-Cities International Film Festival. The reason that this film is different and special is because it is set during the Crusades, where men fought with swords and bows, not heavy weapons and explosives!
This film was funded with a successful Kickstarter campaign and it really shows with the money being put into the cinematography, costumes and with a few exceptions acting. We go into a lot of detail and discussion on this film, including some awesome Predator Lore from Dave who is somewhat of a Predator expert!
Dave and Robert are again joined by Jay and Marc from the Movie Cocktail Podcast for this show so go saddle up your horse, call your Squire and strap on your sword and armor and lets go hunt some Predator, the Old School way!

Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 26 - Venatus/Hunted (Interview). Over the space of the last year we have had many amazing interviews with directors, writer and actors, but they have always been for films that have already been released and you can already see the end product. On this show we have something special, a few weeks ago I managed to speak with Stephen Douchette, Laura Vedder and Joey Utah who are all involved with the currently in production fan film Star Wars: Venatus being made right here in New Jersey!
It was a pleasure to speak with this amazing group of people and learn more about how a fan film is being made, and learning more about the intricacies of film making in general. Stephen, Laura and Joey each come from different backgrounds and it was interesting to learn how they came together, and what went into the project. The gang at Star Wars: Venatus has already released a teaser trailer to help gather interest in the project and it is amazing!
So sit back, grab a warm drink because it is cold here in New Jersey and listen to us talk Star Wars, fan films and Venatus!

Show 25 - Who Goes There!
Welcome to the Fan Film Boyz Podcast Show 25 - Who Goes There!
Back on November 25, 2017 the latest Ep 72: 'Movie Cocktail' Podcast (the other Podcast that I co-host) was released and we talked all about 1982's 'The Thing'. On this episode Dave and Jay of the Super Movie Bros, Marc and I went into a lot of detail about 'The Thing' a film I had never seen before doing this episode. Right after we recorded that episode we all stayed and recorded this Fan Film Boyz show about two 'The Thing' fan films, 'The Thing II' (fanfilm sequel) and 'Who Goes There".
The original movie 'The Thing' was released in 1982 and was directed by John Carpenter and stars Kurt Russell and is about a alien lifeform that assimilates other organisms and then copies them. Based in Antarctica, this science-fiction horror film has become a cult favorite among a lot of people (and SMB Dave loves it!). These two 'The Thing' fan films could not be more different from each other, one is long and continues to tell the story as told in the original movie, a sequel. The second is a attempt at remaking the original. We all have different opinions on these two fan films so join us as we just like The Thing dissect and discuss them!

On this Show Fan Film Boy Robert speaks with LA based, Award Winning author, scriptwriter, director and fellow fan film lover Derek Taylor Kent, writer of The Scary School series, and Kubrick’s Game.
Kubrick’s Game was published in 2016 and is FFB Rob’s favorite book. Think The Da Vinci Code meets the Goonies. It is about an elaborate puzzle game left hidden by film maker Stanley Kubrick in his films. The puzzles when solved lead to a treasure that could have some very large implications to history.
So join Fan Film Boy Robert as he has a HUGE fan boy moment and interviews Derek Taylor Kent!
