Submit ReviewWe’re back! After another looooong hiatus, Talking Apes returns with a super episode! Richard Woloski and Kevin Toft look ahead to what’s coming up in Apes fandom. In April we get the new Marvel comic series, the first since 1975. Then in 2024 we can look forward to the next film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes! We go over the recent casting news and speculate on what writers, Rick Jaffa and Amanada Silver, said in recent interviews.
Also, we finish up the series where we break down the unproduced Planet of the Apes TV series scripts and synopses. There were eight unproduced stories, four of which are in script form where in past episodes we did readings with a full cast. Now, we review the last four story synopses. These include “The Trek”, “Freedom Road”, “The Mine”, and “The Trial”. What is your opinion of these stories? And which Ape TV-Verse do you prefer: these unproduced stories or the plots the CBS shows gave us?
You can find the synopses here.
The scripts can be found here.
Now, GO APE!

Richard Woloski and Mark Oguschewitz take a look at the unsung PLANET OF THE APES TV series from 1974. The first several episodes of TALKING APES TV will delve into one episode of the PLANET OF THE APES TV Series, with plenty of quotes, audio and social commentary pulled from each show.

Hello to all you Chimps, gorillas, orangutans, Underdwellers, and you Mego Collectors! The ape fan community went crazy with the recent news that Mego will start releasing new Planet of the Apes figures starting in April with Dr. Zaius and Cornelious.
We spoke with Paul ‘Mr. Mego’ Clarke of EMCE Toys who gives us insight as to what is coming up with the new Mego Planet of the Apes line (even some hints toward future releases). We talk about Paul’s career in the toy industry, our favorite figures growing up, and the psychological effect of collecting Mego. You will hear Richard have an actual breakthrough! They don’t call Paul Dr. Mego for nothing!
Richard and Kevin also fantasize about the Ape figures, and other pop culture icons, they would love to see in their collection in the future. Happy Holidays to all you Chimps, gorillas, orangutans and you damn dirty humanoids! First off, I want to welcome Kevin Toft as the new co-host of Talking Apes! Not only is Kevin a co-host of the Max EFX Podcast and a very valued member of the Ape fandom community but he has friends in high places.
Kevin asked one of these friends to be a guest on this episode. That guest is a national treasure and an icon in the entertainment industry, but many of you know him as Virgil, the orangutan who “knows everything about everything” in Battle for the Planet of the Apes. That guest is Paul Williams! Mr. Williams shares many behind the scenes stories of working with the director of Battle, J. Lee Thompson, as well as Roddy McDowell and Claude “Cuddles” Akins. We also talk The Muppets and The Monkees!
Thank you to all the Apes who sent in Holiday messages that you’ll hear in this episode. You could say that this is our Talking Apes Holiday Special! And thank you once again to everyone for joining us on Talking Apes, we just hope we brought a smile to your face through a rough year.

Hello to all you Chimps, gorillas, orangutans, Underdwellers, and even you damn dirty Humanoids! In this episode of Talking Apes, Richard is joined by Max Cervantes and Kevin Toft of The Max EFX podcast. Talking Apes continues the series of episodes where they break down and give commentary on unproduced live-action Planet of the Apes TV scripts.
In the last episodes, Richard and Mark Oguschewitz reviewed two of Rod Serling’s unproduced scripts, ‘Episode I’ and ‘Episode II.’ Now Richard, Max and Kevin cover the third unproduced script, ‘A Fallen God’, written by Anthony Lawrence who co-wrote the Apes TV episode, 'The Deception.’
‘A Fallen God,’ script - March 2, 1973 (Three months before the release of ‘Battle for the Planet of the Apes’)
Galen inadvertently sells Alan and Kovack to a local farmer after he is put on the spot as to who they were. On the farm, Alan and Kovack sees the patriarch, Telemon, and his family worshipping an object which turns out to be a radio transmitter. Alan and Kovack must find a way to get to it since that might be a way to communicate to other humans. But, a human-fearing busy-body preacher named Syrinx is catching wind of these smart humans and must put an end to these destructive animals who will once again destroy the planet.

This episode of Talking Apes is dedicated to the bright center of the Apes fan community, Angela Rushmere, who has passed away. We, along with the many Ape fans, had numerous heartfelt comments that will be read on the show.
Then in this episode we will be breaking down the 2nd unproduced Rod Serling script for the live-action Planet of the Apes TV series, Titled Episode 2. If you thought we argued last time, this will take us to UrkoTastic levels!
STORY SUMMARY:
Ursus and his Security Force, which includes his 15 year old son, Zonda, head out to search for Alan, Kovack and Galen and before long they find them.
The renegades take off and in the heat of the chase, Alan knocks Zonda unconscious. Suddenly Alan, Kovack and Galen are aided by unseen assailants and the ape soldiers are forced to retreat.
These new “friends,” who are well cultured and live underground, are curious about Alan and Kovack who have befriended an animal, Galen. They want Galen, and Zonda who was brought with them, put to death until Alan demands they are put on trial to prove they are not as barbaric as the apes.
Also with this episode, Mark says his farewell due to a heavy workload and career opportunities. Since Mark is a HUGE Muppet fan we have a special segment where we find Planet of the Apes and Muppet crossovers. You probably didn’t think there were any, huh?
And Dr. Zaius has been putting in his two cents about the global pandemic as seen on Jimmy Kimmel Live! And Dana Gould’s YouTube channel. (Not sure why he chose Dana Gould?) We also learn what delicious snacks Zaius enjoys.

This episode of Talking Apes is dedicated to Apes fan, cosplayer, and friend, Angela Gibbons.
Hello to all you Chimps, gorillas, orangutans and even you damn dirty humanoids! We are back and this time Talking Apes attended the Los Angeles premiere of Making Apes: The Artists Who Changed Film. We have reactions from those who were there that night such as director, William Conlin; Lou Wagner (Lucius), fans, and an extra who appeared in Battle for the Planet of the Apes - John Landis!
Richard and Mark also share their spoiler free reactions to this film with many heartfelt moments. And listen to how YOU can help get Making Apes seen on streaming and pay services.
We also hear from MUCKYCHRIS.COM about their awesome 3D printed Planet of the Apes busts and sculptures. If you ever wanted a Zaius buddha, you’re now in luck!
In Listen To The Apes, we read your feedback and discuss whether we will drop future conversation about the Gary Dubin conspiracy, or DubinGate (I think you know the answer).
Now Go Ape! Just don’t Go Monkey..
On this episode we’re going to acknowledge and review the Tim Burton’s 2001, Planet of the Apes reboot/reimagining/remake (you decide)! So welcome back to all you Chimps, gorillas, orangutans and even you damn dirty Humanoids! For this Urko-sized task of tackling this film, we brought in reinforcements: Max Cervantes (Ape cosplayer) and Dean Preston (Simian Scrolls fanzine). We also read many of your comments from our Facebook post threatening we were going to do this. I know what you’re thinking, however, the results may surprise you. As Zaius once said, don’t look for it, you may not like what you find.
To balance out Burton’s Apes film with the classic Apes, we recorded this episode from the actual Planet of the Apes film and TV shooting locations at Malibu Creek State Park. After our recording, we ventured out and visited the spots where many iconic scenes took place. Fortunately the fires that took place just weeks before didn’t destroy these landmarks. Look for the location hunt video on the Skywalking Through Neverland Youtube channel.

Hello to all you Chimps, gorillas, orangutans and even you damn dirty Humanoids! Welcome back to Talking Apes! On this episode we feature an interview with author J.W. Rinzler about his NEW book, The Making of the Planet of the Apes.
This has been a huge year for classic Planet of the Apes. In February the Ape community kicked off the 50th Anniversary with screenings and lots of new merchandise including graphic novels and books. One such book is the long-awaited, The Making of Planet of the Apes, by author JW Rinzler which is set for release 10/23 by Harper Collins.
With a foreword by Fraser Heston, Charlton Heston's son, The Making of Planet of the Apes is an entertaining, informative experience that will transport readers back to the strange alternate Earth ruled by apes, and bring to life memorable characters such as Cornelius, Dr. Zira, Dr. Zaius, and Taylor, whose time-traveling sparks an incredible adventure. Meticulously researched and designed to capture the look and atmosphere of the film, The Making of Planet of the Apes is also packed with a wealth of concept paintings, storyboards, and never-before-seen imagery—including rare journal pages and sketches from Charlton Heston's private collection—as well as color and black-and-white unit photography, posters, and more unique ephemera.
Comprehensive in scope, The Making of Planet of the Apes is the definitive look at the original blockbuster film, a must-have for fans, film buffs, and collectors alike. And yes, there is a Felix Silla/Gary Dubin discussion included in our conversation with JW Rinzler.
Now Go Ape!

See for yourself if this adaptation resembles the original film we all know and love, or the animated Return to the Planet of the Apes with the use of higher tech modes of transportation.
And….. Once again when we have to break a promise. We posted on several Apes FB groups that we were going to review the 2001 Tim Burton film. But after several meetings with ourselves we thought it was too much to cram into one show. We guarantee it is coming!

Happy Holidays Ape Fans! Welcome back to our new Talking Apes TV spin-off! For those of you who are just finding us let me catch you up: Talking Apes TV just recapped and broke down each episode of the live action and animated POTA TV series. But now since there are no more TV shows to argue over, we are branching off to talk with authors, actors and those in the Ape fan community.
In this episode we have a great discussion with E.C. Gaska, author of the short story ‘The Unknown Ape’ from ‘Planet of the Apes: Tales from the Forbidden Zone’. He is also the author of the graphic novel, ‘Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes’. E.C. was currently tasked by Fox to straighten out the official Apes timelines for a more cohesive universe that contains many alternate “lanes”. If you’ve read ‘The Unknown Ape’, you’ll agree that FOX chose the right man!
We also read some emails from the Apes listeners who help us choose a name for this spin-off show since we are no longer just talking about the Apes TV series. And listener Mark De Vattimo sends us a holiday gift with an Apes inspired song, ‘Pianetta Della Schimmie’ from his band, Psychonaut!

This episode also covers recent speculations over the Gary Dubin/Felix Silla debate and how Battle for the Planet of the Apes plays into all this.
We also review the short story, ‘The Unknown Ape’ - by Andrew EC Gaska, from Planet of the Apes: Tales from the Forbidden Zone. WIthout giving anything away, this story features characters from both the Apes TV series and the films! Great story that answers lots of timeline questions.
We couldn’t leave off without our thoughts about War For The Planet Of The Apes, the third film in the new Apes theatrical films. Judging by the box office number lots of Ape fans have seen the film. Just in case you hadn’t, we keep it as spoiler-free as possible.
With that, Talking Apes TV will be going on hiatus. We covered everything we could when it came to Apes on TV. But we will be back as we’re sure there are more classic Ape stories to cover. And we will be leaving our Facebook page up to stay in touch.

Hey Hey Ape fans! This is it! The final episode in the Return to the Planet of the Apes animated series. Join Richard and Mark as they break down this episode, Battle of the Titans (original airdate 11/29/75)!
General Urko has been relieved of his military duties because of his recent negligence involving his leadership and the failed attempts at capturing Blue Eyes and his friends. With their main adversary out of the way, Cornelius and Zira plan to take this opportunity in telling the senate about how humans were not always subservient to apes and their original place on the planet. Lots of questions to be answered. Will they believe these two trusted chimpanzees? What will be Urko’s fate? Will there be a cliff-hanger that will leave us dangling for 42 years?
Mark and Richard also discuss the short story from Planet of the Apes: Tales from the Forbidden Zone titled, ‘Who is this Man? What Sort of Devil Is He?’ by Robert Greenberger. This story takes place right after the fan-favorite episode from the live-action TV series, ‘The Trap’, and forces Urko into a deep discussion with his son. About the humans. Since they just saved Urko from the collapsed subway station, are they really the enemy?
With Battle of the Titans as the last episode in the animated TV series, what will be the future for Talking Apes TV? Tune in, find out and GO APE!

We also give our spoiler-free review of the book, and point out a favorite passage. Without giving anything away it does have to do with a top-heavy head garment worn by Urko. We tend to think that was a wink and a nod to Talking Apes TV, but we could be wrong.

Happy Holidays Ape Fans! Have we got a show for you! We are taking our customary break from reviewing an episode of the animated series, Return To The Planet Of The Apes, to talk with some special guests. On January 24, 2017, Titan Books will release the anthology book, Planet of the Apes: Tales From The Forbidden Zone based on the characters and situations from the classic era.
On this episode we will be talking with co-editors and story contributors Rich Handley and Jim Beard. These high-energy guests tell us about the making of the book, what authors were chosen and which writers were interested but couldn't fit it into their busy schedules (no spoilers but one of these writers has written science fiction/fantasy films based a long time ago in a galaxy far far away). They even hint at whether or not any of the authors had written a story based on the mystery of Urko's helmet!
We also talk with John Jackson Miller, an author who has played in many of our beloved universes from Star Wars, Star Trek and Halo. He tells us about his story and where it fits in the classic ape era and how he used TV appearances by Ape actors in his plot. He also talks about his new Star Trek and Halo books and graphic novels. We want to thank all the Talking Apes TV listeners who posted questions for Mr. Miller on our Facebook page. He was excited to hear from you!
Richard and Mark also talk about the new War For The Planet Of The Apes trailer that was just released. A great discussion for a great new film coming July 14, 2017!

Happy Halloween Ape Fans! In this episode of Talking Apes TV we celebrate this UrkoTastic holiday with stories of how Richard's Galen costume made him cry, we try to figure out how Yummy Mummy and Fruit Brute fit into the Monster cereals, and why Vincent Price is giving out Easter seals to trick-or-treaters.
We also say goodbye to our dear friend, Gary Dubin who passed away in early October. We had lots of laughs as we dove into the 'was he/was he not' the young gorilla in the original Planet of the Apes film. Whether he was or not, we were lucky enough to meet him at an apes autograph signing last year. He will be deeply missed.
Then we dive into the episode Attack from the Clouds. This is the 10 entry in the Return to the Planet of the Apes series which aired November 8, 1975. In this episode we continue with the theme of giant monsters when a a flying dragon creature is seen over Ape City. Urko believes it is his stolen plane being used in a secret plot to overthrow him. The dragon creature moves on and finds a food source in humanoid-land known as New Valley and begins attacking.
Meanwhile Bill and Judy go to to locate the stolen plane from a previous episode before Urko before finds it which would spell certain doom. In an effort to save their herd Bill and Judy go out and locate Urko’s stolen plane and use it to to combat the beast!
We have lots of fun with this one as we see Urko spiral deeper into his own madness.
Listen, enjoy, have a Happy Halloween and, GO APE!

Hey Hey Ape Fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV! We kick off this episode by looking at some awesome costume cross-overs from Star Wars Celebration Europe. These have got to be the best we've ever seen - Planet of the Star Wars! Fans dressed as vintage Apes wearing Stormtrooper, X-Wing and TIE Fighter pilot uniforms. All lead by Darth Zaius.
Speaking of crossovers, Boom Comics who mashed-up Star Trek and Planet of the Apes is at it again with - Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes! We review the details as given at time of recording for this 5 issue mini-series. When war between man and ape breaks out, which side will Caesar and his brother Tarzan choose? First issue to be released 9/28/2016.
"Trail to the Unknown" Synopsis (Airdate 11/1/1975)
Bill, Jeff and Judy have to get the humanoids away from their home before Urko’s imminent attack. They build rafts and sail away to their new home in New Valley (as foretold in Tunnel of Fear). Meanwhile in Ape City, Dr. Zaius visits Cornelius and Zira to thank them for stealing Urko's plane (as seen in last episode ‘Screaming Wings'). By doing so, Zaius feels that Zira and Cornelious have saved simian society from Urko's dictatorship. Hungry for power, Urko has tracked the humans to their new home and plans to destroy them once and for all!
We have a blast reviewing this episode since we are starting to see the bigger story. They better hurry up since there are only 4 more episodes to the series! It's always a bonus when the writers think about continuity and include Easter eggs from the films and live-action TV show. And we see Urko spiraling further into iNsaNity!
During a commercial break, we hear a commercial for a toy that we're sure Urko played with as a child. Probably made him into the Apes is he today. And we hear from MEGO and their KISS collection of figures. (WARNING: Once you hear that commercial jingle, you WILL be singing it for days.)
Listen, have fun, and Go APE!

Hey Hey Ape Fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV!
We kick off this episode by reviewing the past works of Return to the Planet of the Apes Animation Director, Cullen Houghtaling. Did you even know there were animated series based on Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure? Police Academy? Mork & Mindy/Laverne & Shirley/Fonz? We're so lucky to have the Internet these days.
Screaming Wings Synopsis:
As Bill, Jeff, and Judy head for a humanoid settlement they spot human scarecrow targets. Suddenly, a World War II-era fighter plane appears in the sky. Piloted by a gorilla, the aircraft flies toward the scarecrows and drops a net on them. Urko and his Ape army are testing the plane in preparation for planet domination. Now Bill, Jeff and Judy have to steal it if there is any hope for the humanoid race, and, to see if this plane can help them get back home.
We have a blast reviewing this one since there is so much fun stuff here. And finally we're getting a story thread that will start bringing the series together. And we see the side-effects of Urko's helmet which may be on a little too tight in this episode. During a commercial break, we hear a MEGO World's Mightiest Superheroes figure commercial that would never be made today.
Listen, have fun and Go APE!
Hey Hey Apes! We teased at the end of our last episode that we were going to review the episode, 'Screaming Winds' from the Return to the POTA series but we’re going to take our customary mid-series break to talk with some friends old and new.
We are very excited to have become fast friends with another simian podcast. Not apes, chimpanzees or orangutans, but Monkees! On our last episode we learned of the many connections between the Planet of the Apes TV series and The Monkees TV series, and we learned this from Zilch: A Monkees Podcast. Creator and host, Ken Mills, will be joining us to talk childhood Ape stories, his passion for The Monkees and his KISS and Cheap Trick podcasts.
What's an Ape connection without a new jingle? We have 2 great new Monkees/Apes jingles written by podcast composer Rob Dehlinger. If you thought 'Yabba Dabba Urko' was catchy ring-tone wait until you hear these!
To hear about Ape fandom past and present from the other side of the world, we talk with Adam O'Brien. You may know Adam from the Jogcast Radio Network where he discusses all kinds of fandoms, now he brings his passion to Talking Apes TV.
We give you a very rare clip from the 1974 Macy's Thanksgiving parade (thanks to Angela Rushmere) that featured Planet of the Apes. This is something you've got to hear to believe, and not in a good way.
Now go Ape!
Hey Hey Ape fans! This week on Talking Apes TV, Richard makes a connection between Planet of the Apes and another one of his passions, The Monkees (how ironic!).
Then we dive deep into River of Flames (aired 10/18/1975). This is the 7th episode and now the half way point in this series of only 13 episodes, 1 less than the live action series.
"River Of Flames" Synopsis
Krador, the Underdweller, enlists the help of Bill and Jeff to help their world from being destroyed by the suddenly-active volcano. They suspect a trap, however if it is true than Judy will be in danger. Meanwhile Galen and Zira are battling over government funds with Zauis so they don?t go to Urko and his human-hunting agenda.
Ape History class begins as we go back in time to visit the Adventures on the Planet of the Apes comic book and Planet of the Apes magazine. You have to give Fox credit for trying so hard to relaunch their ape franchise again and again. Sadly this was also a short lived series that ended after 11 issues in December of 1976.
This comic series features colorized reprints of the official movie adaptation of POTA and Beneath the POTA which had been originally printed in Marvel?s POTA Magazine (which ran for 29 issues from 1974-1977 - FEB).
Did Mark like this episode? Did Richard like this episode? Which one gave it 29 strikes against it? How many times did they fight during their discussion? Listen and find out.
Now Go Ape!
Hey Hey Ape fans! Are you ready for another fun-filled episode of Talking Apes TV? We certainly hope so! On this month's show we discuss the 6th episode from the Return to the Planet of the Apes animated series, Terror On Ice Mountain which aired on November 22, 1975 (this episode should have been called "The forever-falling hot air balloon." or "Plot-jumping of the Apes")
Synopsis
During an archaeological dig, Cornelius uncovers an ancient, human book called, "A Day at the Zoo." He explains to Zira that this book would be deadly to the humans if it ever fell into Urko's hands. When Bill and Jeff see the book, Jeff wants to show the high-council so that the truth of the planet will be known, but Cornelius, fearing their safety, wants to hide it on the snowy mountain of Ghar.
If you're a longtime listener of Talking Apes TV you'll know what we mean when we say this is the equivalent to the 'Horse Race' episode from the live-action series. Not the best episode to watch but the best episode to tear into because of all the plot glaring plot holes. Sometimes those episodes make our show so much fun to record.
Being an episode from 1975, we play commercials from that era. Who had the Evel Knievel Dragster toy? Or a portable tape recorder/player which was Dyno-Mite (wait what does that mean?)
We're sure you'll have an Urkotastic time listening. Now go Ape!
Hey Hey Apes fans! How do like our new home at RetroZap.com? We love being a part of such a creative Empire and what a great way to kick off 2016! For those of you who have never been there, this is a great pop culture site where you can find blogs (some by me), reviews and it is also the home of one of my favorite Star Wars podcasts - Brews and Blasters! RetroZap! will also be another stop to get Skywalking Through Neverland.
In this episode of Talking Apes TV we will be discussing Lagoon of Peril, the 5th episode on the Return to the Planet of the Apes animated series which aired Sept. 20, 1975, which would have made this the 3rd episode.
Lagoon of Peril Synopsis
Intelligent Humanoids Invade Earth and citizens of the POTA go crazy with this pending doom! Before the high-council and Urko can find Bill and Jeff’s sunken ship in the lagoon of peril they must find and destroy it before the apes discover the truth about their existence. And we discover why it is... the lagoon of peril…
Hey Hey Ape fans, we are going to take a break from the Return To The Planet Of The Apes series (sorry once again Lagoon of Peril) to talk with Ape Fan/Cosplayer/Icarus-namer (you'll find out) - Max Cervantes! W
e met Max last year at Stan Lee's Comikaze convention when one question turned into a fantastic 45 minute discussion full of fun Ape facts and his place in the original Apes canon. We knew Max still had more stories in him and we were so right. Find out more about the Ape City Cosplay Crew, why we couldn't find the Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes sets in Los Angeles, and yes, we have get his point-of-view on the Felix Silla/Gary Dubin Ape Child controversy debate!
And we even have time to 'Listen To The Apes'!

Then it is time to get into the 4th episode on the Return to the Planet of the Apes animated series, Tunnel of Fear which aired Sept. 27, 1975. This episode has some of the BEST moments in all of Ape TV so listen in and find out what those moments are. WARNING: You will get the song, 'I'm Going Humanoid Over You' stuck in your head for days. You've been warned.
Episode Synopsis Jeff and Bill put their lives on the line as they sneak back into Ape City to find Cornelius and Zira with hopes that they will help them find a new location for the humanoids. Will they bypass the ape soldiers and a new deadly and slow-moving foe in time?!
Let us know what you think of this episode and if they could have come up with a better title than Tunnel of Fear.

Hey Hey Ape Fans!
We celebrate our one-year ape-iversary of Talking Apes TV with this special episode of controversy! Richard and Mark give you an update on the Felix Silla/Gary Dubin debate. The little gorilla boy in the original Planet Of The Apes film should've said, "Guess who I am?!" instead of "Look it's a Man!" And if that wasn't enough, there was "Who's that Zira?" controversy.
What episode of Return to the Planet of the Apes are we covering this time? If you look at some sources then you would have watched Lagoon of Peril. But if you look at other sources then you watched The Unearthly Prophecy. After taking apart this puzzle, we came to the conclusion that story-wise, The Unearthly Prophecy, would come as the third episode in the series. So that is the one we are covering.
THE UNEARTHLY PROPHECY: While escaping from Urko and his soldiers Bill and Jeff find a secret door that leads underground. There they meet - The Underdwellers - cloaked humans with special powers. They also find another surprise from their past!
In honor of Halloween and the tradition of giving, podcast composer Rob Dehlinger's new Flintstones inspired jingle, "Yabba Dabba Urko" is a ringtone-treat which can be found at Facebook.com/talkingapestv.
And lastly, we think we finally found out how Urko keeps that top-heavy helmet on his head! Listen to the latest episode of Talking Apes TV and find out!

Join Richard and Mark on this edition of Talking Apes TV as they look at the 2nd episode of the Return To The Planet Of The Apes animated episode, Escape From Ape City. This episode aired Sept. 13th, 1975 and picks up right where we left off in, Flames Of Doom.
After being captured, Bill is brought to the laboratory of Ape City for Cornelious and Zira to study. After it becomes obvious Bill is no ordinary humanoid, they help him escape before General Urko uses him for his deadly war games.
This episode of Talking Apes TV features a new Urko theme composed by Rob Dehlinger. And, just before they start to record Richard and Mark uncover controversy in the Planet Of The Apes behind-the-scenes world. A mystery not yet solved...

Hey Hey Ape Fans! We are back with the introduction to the animated ape series, Return To The Planet Of The Apes! This 1975 series kicked off with the episode Flames of Doom.
Who remembers watching this 1975 series that just ran 13 episodes on NBC? Who remembers the "stylish" animation? Richard and Mark discuss this first episode and how much went over their heads when they watched it as kids.
Flames of Doom starts with three astronauts who are sent on a outer space mission only to return to Earth 2,000 years later. In their debut adventure they witness talking apes who drive military vehicles, a woman named Nova, and, we see the return of fan-favorite General Urko who sounds like he wants to belt out "Yabba Dabba Urko"

Hey Hey to all you Chimpanzee's, orangutang's and helmet wearing gorillas. In this episode of Talking Apes TV we wrap up the live-action Planet Of The Apes series. Joining Richard and Mark is artist and longtime Ape fan all the way from the UK - Paul Bateman.
We give you our ideas of where we would want the show to go if CBS asked for our input for a second series and beyond! Which they could've produced seeing how there were more scripts ready to go. We go over these stories and see how they could've been handled. (Personally we wanted to see Galen in a 10 gallon hat. Listen and find out what that means.)
We are also going to look at the 1981 wrap arounds Roddy McDowell shot as Galen when ABC recut the movies into 5 TV presentations! And we're also going to read some listener feedback. Thanks to all who wrote in and gave us information we didn't know about the series.
Urko. Orko. Urko. Orko! Which is it? Urko himself weighs in on this heavily discussed debate.
As we wrap up the live action series we want to thank everyone who made this an Urkotastic ride. Now onto the animated series from 1975!
Now go Ape!
Richard and Mark embark on an all-encompassing 14-episode recap of the Planet Of The Apes Live-Action TV Series! Compare yours with Richard and Mark’s list:
We want to thank all those apes who also sent in their lists of their favorites. While we're on the subject of thanking people we would also like to thank those who have contributed to the production of the show like Sarah Woloski, Rob Dehlinger, Lala Land Records and YOU APES.
We would also like to thank and welcome our newest Ape family member - Angela Rushmere. She has been doing such an UrkoTastic job posting so much on our Facebook page and finding content we didn't even know existed.
To those who wrote in and asked if we were going to wrap up after the live action series I can tell you that with so much Ape content out there we will be going for a long, long time. And sooner or later we're going to want to rip into that Tim Burton attempt.
Now enjoy as Richard and Mark argue their way through their 'best of' lists...

Hey Hey Ape fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV! We are the podcast that takes an entertaining look at each episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974 to find out why it still stands up after 40 years.
In this episode we look at the last show in the Planet Of The Apes TV series, #14 "Up Above The World So High". Like the last Apes episode, "The Liberator", this one has an uncertain air date. (However we've come to the conclusion that it aired on 12/20/1974).
Synopsis: Alan, Pete and Galen encounter a human named Leuric who is experimenting with flight in a hang-glider he has built himself. But when he is captured by Commander Konag and his troops he is ordered to be executed. That is until a female chimpanzee scientist steps in to save him. Is she doing this for Leuric or for her own devious plan?
How does this episode stack up to the rest? Do we get a satisfying series finale? Do we see Urko with or without his helmet? Listen in and find out!
Don’t worry, there will be MORE Talking Apes TV! From here, we will delve into interviews with the stars and authors from the Planet Of The Apes world. And we will also look at Return To The Planet Of The Apes animated series. So much in store for the future!

Hey Hey Ape fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV! We are the podcast that takes an entertaining look at each episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974 to find out why it still stands up after 40 years.
"The Liberator" is the 13th episode of the series and the most controversial because of its subject matter of slavery and atomic bombs. Many sources list this episode as "Unaired" - possibly because it was pre-empted in one or two major markets. However, both CBS-TV records and Neilsen Ratings data testify that it was shown in some areas.
In "The Liberator" Alan, Pete and Galen are captured by a village who is forced to give up five human slaves to their ape overlords to work in the mines. The leader of the village sacrifices the unwilling humans to their god in a fatal ceremony. The temple where this is held turns out to be an ancient ruin where a poisonous invisible gas is manufactured.
We also reveal the final winners of our Planet Of The Apes TV soundtrack! Thanks once again to LaLa Land Records for donating these CD's.
Next week we look at the FINAL episode, "Up Above The World So High." After that we have so many great episodes planned such as Ape interviews with fans, actors and authors as well as starting up the Planet Of The Apes Animated Series.
Until then, GO APE!

Alan and Pete butt heads with Dr. Zoran, a chimpanzee sent by the High Council to experiment on the humans. At the same time, Urko wants to burn the village to the ground, with everyone inside it.

But the blind ape daughter of the dragoons' latest victim falls in love with Pete - unaware that he is human.

Welcome to the holiday episode of Talking Apes TV! We are the podcast that takes an in-depth look at each episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974 to find out why it still stands up after 40 years. This was also the year that kids were asking Santa for the newest toys and games like Twister, Connect 4, and, GI Joe with the Kung Fu grip.
Join Richard and Mark as they say their goodbye to TV's Dr. Zaius, Booth Colman, in our opinion the best of the Zaius'.
In this episode, "The Surgeon", which aired 10/25/1974, Alan is shot by a gorilla patrol. Galen and Pete take him to a medical center where we meet Dr. Kyra (Played by Jacqueline Scott who portrayed Zantes in the "Good Seeds"), someone special from Galen's past.

Hey Hey Ape fans! In this episode of Talking Apes TV, we look at "Tomorrow's Tide". Remember this one? When Pete and Alan are captured in a fishing village that employs human slave labor, they must prove their worth as fishermen or be sacrificed to the gods of the sea - the sharks.
Every other week we are finding random connections between Star Wars and Planet Of The Apes. In our new segment, The Star Wars Connection, we tell you what we found this week. Thanks to Rob Dehlinger for writing a great segment theme. (Any guesses as to what the music was influenced by?)
We also reveal a new winner of the Planet Of The Apes TV Series DVD Box Set. Is it you?
Unfortunately we don't see General Urko in this episode so we don't know if his helmet is on or off his head.
As always, thank you Apes for listening. #Hurtonsanidiot

Hey Hey Apes fans! This week Richard and Mark discuss the fourth episode, “The Good Seeds.” (aired 10/4/1974). When Galen hurts his leg and can't travel, Virdon and Burke seek refuge in a farm till their friend recovers. The farm is operated by a gruff but decent ape named Polar and his family. Throughout the episode, Pete shows Polar and Anto better farming skills. Polar is receptive to change, but Anto is not. What will happen?
LISTENER FEEDBACK: We got several emails this week with some great points which we will go over.

Hey Hey Ape fans! Join Richard and Mark as they discuss their favorite episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series, “The Trap” (aired 9/27/1974). This episode is a departure from most - we see General Urko and Pete Burke working together in order to survive. While trying to get themselves out of a centuries-old subway station, Urko sees a poster for the San Francisco zoo. If Urko weren’t angry enough at the human race, seeing a gorilla in a cage tells him that maybe apes weren’t always the supreme. How will Pete survive this?
LISTENER FEEDBACK: We heard you! And you bring up some very good points that tie the current Ape movies with the originals.
And what’s a podcast brought to you by Skywalking Through Neverland without a Give-Away! This week we start our Planet Of The Apes DVD boxed set give-away. Listen in for details or ENTER HERE.
And once again thanks for listening!

Hey Hey Ape fans! Talking Apes TV is the podcast that explores the Planet Of The Apes TV series and why they still stand up after 40 years. This week we look at the second episode of the Apes TV series titled 'The Gladiators', which aired in 1974. Plot Summary: Virdon, Burke and Galen stumble into a village led by a chimpanzee prefect, Barlow, who keeps the human populace calm by gladiatorial combat. When Barlow finds the magnetic disc containing the record of the flight of Pete and Alan, they must get it back in order to have any hope of returning home. Galen goes to the village to attempt to retrieve the disc. While he is speaking with the prefect, Virdon and Burke are captured. Listen for some great conversation and the many historical references to the 1970's in this episode.

This week we look at the second episode of the Apes TV series titled 'The Gladiators', which aired back on Friday September 20, 1974. Just to be forewarned, this is not a review show, but we do break down these Apes episodes so there may be some spoilers. But then again you've had 40 years and a few weeks now to see these. However if there is a big twist we will try hard to work around that so you can experience it yourself and get that WOW factor.
Look for a great conversation on this episode as well as a future BeastMaster.
Welcome to the first episode of Skywalking Through Neverland's new spin-off miniseries "Talking Apes TV" - where we take a look at the unsung Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974. The 40th anniversary of the TV show demands that we do this! But I am not alone. Hosting alongside with me is not my beautiful wife JediTink Sarah, but the Skywalking Through Neverland creative consultant, Mark Oguschewitz. In our intro episode we give you a refresher of the films and the reasons why the Planet Of The Apes series is so important and has held up over the decades! One word - subtext. What are the Apes movies really about? Each film represents a sign of the time, and the issues the world was dealing with during the years 1968-1973. And what episode is complete without including the disco mega-hit - Apes Shuffle!
