"At the age of 20, I began my personal wellness journey in hopes of finding inspiration and energy while working my first corporate job (let’s just say it wasn’t a good fit). In a desperate attempt to stop falling asleep at my desk, I tried to introduce some radical concepts (for me at the time): getting up to walk a little more, actually drinking water, and learning to cook my own food. Before I knew it, I started having more energy, was building strength, had more mental clarity, and was becoming more confident than I had been before. Thus, my love of wellness was born and I wanted to share it.

I started my career in fitness as a personal trainer and fitness instructor in 2012, and launched my first blog The Balanced Berry in 2014 to share my love of fitness and nutrition with others. As a personal trainer and nutrition coach, I spent over five years helping women reach their wellness goals in a balanced, sustainable way.

After taking some time off from fitness in 2018, I pivoted to create Balanced Black Girl to introduce my community to Black and brown women experts in health and wellness and create a comfortable place for accessible wellness conversations and connections. Now as a 200-hr YT, I lead wellness conversations and create mindfulness-focused content to help us all find our balance."

We tend to look at life in a very binary way, measuring its successes against its failures and believing that the successes or the proverbial wins are the only ones that really matter. But it’s in a failure, likely more than our successes that we find our true center. We find the areas of our life that are chalked full of shame, guilt, self-hate, disappointment, trauma, and quite plainly pain. It’s in those moments that we really find the parts of ourselves that we hide away, that are overlooked, pushed down, ignored, shielded, and under-explored. We learn that we are not made up of sugar and spice and everything nice instead, we are a mix of dark and light, daytime and night, the yin and yang that’s meant to work together in the balance of our human life. I want you to think about the concept of time with me, You can not see it touch taste of feel it but it is very real. You literally live and die by time. Time can be the greatest gift and time can be to most brutal killer. To have time makes you the richest person in the world and to not have time is to be be devastated by the poverty that stand before you . Time is a currency in which some of us spend recklessly . While some of us wish it away in spells of “ I can’t wait” to spending time thought in the future and feeling remiss when what we looked forward to now lives in the past. We don’t know how many years , months , weeks days hours mins seconds we will live on this planet and that keeps us from taking time seriously...
