And finally, in This Week In Stupid, one of the country’s most notorious gangsters from the 1920s and 30s is still committing crimes from the grave, attempting to steal a pair of shoes at knife-point.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, Geeno, Dunks, and Sarena are in-studio.
Caesar begins the show by addressing a recent IG post made by Matt Welty.
Should the brands get rid of men’s and women’s sizing and just go gender neutral in sizing?
Guru has more tall tales from his time at California Pizza Kitchen.
Dunks wants to help curate Nike’s next Black History Month Collection.
Has Paul George’s signature line gotten progressively worse?
We give our thoughts on Beyonce’s Ivy Park X Adidas collab so far.
We consider sponsoring Dunks into a fraternity at a HBCU.
Nike is telling their U.S. retail partners to NOT sell and ship product overseas. What’s the angle behind this decision by the Swoosh? And who does it ultimately benefit?
@Sk8thegr8 calls in to the show to discuss the era of NikeSB, he attempts to defend the Supreme X Nike AF1s, and to give his thoughts on other upcoming releases for this year.
In this throwback episode of TSB, Caesar, The Sneaker Girl, and JumpmanBostic take it back to the basement.
Kobe Bryant leapfrogs Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all time scoring list. This causes a debate as to whether a case could be made that Kobe was now better than MJ. Nike tried to commemorate the moment by releasing an exclusive NikeiD, but no one on the crew seemed too impressed.
Apparently The Sneaker Girl has nice hair.
Some idiot in Memphis tried to steal some limited edition Nike LeBron 12s using a trailer.
We remember the dysfunction that was the Melo X Air Jordan 1 release through Footaction.
JumpmanBostic STILL hates the “Bel-Air” Air Jordan 5.
We revisit the chaos that was the “Legend Blue” Air Jordan 11 release, including a would be thief that lost his life attempting to steal a pair.
Is it ok to have a plug as a sneakerhead or collector?
And finally, we list our top sneaker pick ups of 2014.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, Geeno, Dunks, and Sarena are in-studio.
Would it be a show without Caesar venting about SOMETHING? Same could be said about Sarena shooting her shot.
Why didn’t people like the “Washed Denim” Air Jordan 6s?
This past Christmas season was a good time to have picked up some OG sneaker grails. While everyone was chasing the hype, there was a lot of deals to take advantage of.
At what point will people grow tried of retros and nostalgia?
We try saving Dunks from himself, talking him out of getting a particular tattoo on his ankle.
Dunks hates low top Jordans. Of course we don’t let him get away with it.
We breakdown the best cereal to eat by race. Spoiler alert, regular Cheerios are for white people. Apparently.
Nike is releasing a sneaker that will reduce, and cut down on, injuries for runners. So, what about the other athletes?
Speaking of leaving others out, Nike is being accused of forgetting who helped them get where they are. Mom and pop shops across the country are losing their contracts with the Swoosh as Nike shifts their business strategy away from them and more towards DTC and larger retailers who can move more product.
It’s 2019…..2020. Whatever. And people are still falling for Instagram sneaker scams where they send their money to shady resellers without seeing the actual product.
VANS donates over $1 million to charities and other organizations who’s focus is promoting creativity within the arts.
EBay is looking to regain their hold on the sneaker resell market by eliminating seller fees on sneakers listed for $100 or more.
And finally, we look forward to our favorite upcoming sneaker releases for the first quarter of 2020.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, Dunks, and Sarena are in-studio.
In our final show of 2019, we make our picks for our second annual Sneaker Royal Rumble.
Dunks triggers Caesar by bringing up what has to be the stupidest Air Jordan release ever. The “laceless” Air Jordan 5 “Fresh Prince”.
Reebok decided to end the year on a high note, releasing probably their best sneaker of the year, the “Heart Over Hype” Reebok Question. This leads to a discussion of which shoes we’re looking forward to getting before the new year.
Jordan Brand has a habit of letting everyone get gassed up expecting a certain shoe to retro, knowing full well that they have no intentions of re-releasing said shoe. People saw that there was a “Red/White-Black” Air Jordan 1 coming out in early 2020 and automatically assumed they were going to be the “Chicago” 1s. Never assume anything with Jordan Brand.
Following in the footsteps of GOAT, StockX has partnered up with the Cleveland Cavaliers to create a unique experience for both NBA players and fans. And by “unique” we mean gratuitous logo placements throughout the arena and the visiting team’s locker room, and using the StockX app on what amounts to a standard size TV instead of the convenience of one’s cell phone.
Middle aged white people everywhere are PISSED about the upcoming jersey changes in the 2020 MLB season. They’re concerned that the Nike Swoosh, which will now be adorned on the front of every team’s jersey, will somehow ruin the sanctity of the game. While the league is aware of those concerns, they have over a billion reasons to not give a sh*t.
In what has to be one of the dumbest sneakers ever produced, PUMA has created a shoe specifically for video gamers. Puma says that their “active gaming footwear” offers support and grip to help overcome the many challenges that come with sitting down and playing video games, while also acknowledging that the shoes will probably offer nothing towards the improvement of performance of the video gamers who would wear them.
And finally, Caesar ends the show giving his two cents on the Nick Cannon X Eminem beef. We think we can all agree that we hope that it doesn’t extend into the new year.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, Dunks, and Sarena are in-studio.
What’s the point of doing a Fab 5 this week when all anyone talked about was the “Playoff”–or “Bred”–Air Jordan 11s?
Ray Polanco Jr. is being accused of allegedly abusing and exploiting his ex-girlfriend. While it seems that most people are waiting to see the story develop as the facts come out, there is a contingent of people who have made their minds up and have taken to social media to let their thoughts be known. Caesar makes the point that you should keep it to yourself if you can’t @ that person.
Dunks tries his hardest to get the record for the most bell rings. We might have to install a penalty box in the studio.
Geeno might be the most selfish co-host in the history of the show. Shout out to Taco Bell.
Dunks allegedly has a hidden culinary talent. But if his taste pallette is anything like his taste in sneakers, we’re not too optimistic.
Caesar rants on hypebeasts. Again.
Has Virgil Abloh officially phoned it in? Have you seen the Off-White X Air Jordan 5?!
Caesar looks forward to next year’s Sneaker Royal Rumble. Everyone on the show has to pick their top 5 shoes of the year. BUT, each shoe has to come from different brands.
Is StockX still being hacked?
Caesar rants on the lack of actual news coming from sneaker websites and news sites. It’s just release dates and celebrity sightings.
There’s fallout at Nike HQ following the aftermath of Alberto Salazar and the Nike Oregon Project controversy. A mini protest was held on campus by 400 employees. Somehow, out of all the things to be bothered by in this story, Caesar finds the tritest thing to take issue with. In addition to being tone deaf, Nike found a way to co-opt the protest. Oh, and there was a woman with a camoflouge beanie.
Under Armour is as bad at committing crimes as they are at selling sneakers.
Is anyone still excited about the upcoming Beyonce X Adidas collaboration?
And finally, in This Week In Stupid, a Nike Factory Store in California can’t go a day without getting robbed. In fact, there’s video of one of those robberies taking place, with a group of teens running out with arm loads of product. The kicker? That was the second robbery that day.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, and Dunks are in-studio.
We’ve seen some ugly shoes in our day, but this shoe by Nike might just be one of the ugliest in our show’s history.
Caesar tells the story of how he might have been responsible for Dick’s Sporting Goods changing the name of their sneaker category from “The Score” to “The Win”.
Stadium Goods create a list of the most iconic sneakers of the last decade. And to be honest, we don’t disagree with their list all that much.
In another move that showcases their uncanny ability to always be original, Complex is looking to create their own sneaker marketplace. They’re currently in talks with other established, resell platforms and are looking to place this “new”, and “original”, idea of a sneaker marketplace underneath the Sole Collector brand.
The Brooklyn Nets have teamed up with the GOAT app to licence their players entrance into their arena. They’ll obviously find some way to create sneaker centered content out of this move. Trivial? Sure. But it’s a move nonetheless.
There’s a sneaker app called Poizon that, already in its first year, is generating 3 times the revenue that StockX brings in annually. $2.1 billion to be exact.
And finally, Caesar goes over a controversy brewing at Nike that might explain why Mark Parker stepped down as CEO. Women who were involved in Nike’s Oregon Project are said to have been subjected to mental and physical abuse while participating in the program. Coaches were obsessed with their body and weight, more specifically, their asses. No one seemed to be licensed to do the jobs they were given. One athlete considered suicide. While Nike’s response to all of this so far seems to be “how were WE supposed to know what was happening in OUR program that WE were funding”, the USADA is taking a look at the former head coach, while there are calls for an independent investigation into the now defunct program.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, Dunks, and Sarena are in-studio.
We call JumpmanBostic, in what pretty much turns into a interview of sorts, to get his opinion on the Off-White X Air Jordan 5, Dunks wearing his “Playoff” 11s as snow boots, and BoostmanBostic’s opinion on the new Yeezys.
Social media came in handy for once. We give our collective thoughts on the revised trailer for the upcoming “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie. Now if only we could take that same premise
Caesar states his beef with people who decided to pass on the recent “What The” Air Jordan 4 release.
We talk about what shoes were looking forward to that are releasing this holiday season.
And finally, in a new segment called “Bot Topic”, we interview “Sean”, owner of “Loop Stars” and PR guy for “Project Destroyer”, to talk more in-depth about bots and how they operate within the world of buying and reselling sneakers. This leads to a healthy debate between the crew and their guest as to benefits, and unintended side effects, it has had on the sneaker community.
In this episode of TSB, Francis, Geeno, Guru, Sarena, Dunks, and eventually, Caesar are in-studio.
We briefly touch on how Ronnie Fieg got started.
We read some of our negative reviews on iTunes and “happily” accept the constructive feedback.
We look back on our show’s history, from road trips to opportunities to work with brands. It’s been a hell of a run.
In honor of the “Red Carpet” LeBron 17, we try to come up with a list of some of the best all red sneakers of all time.
The Pensole Academy has partnered up with Champs Sports to create a pipeline to a career in sneaker design for high school students.
People are to paying $400+ to pre-order the upcoming “Playoff” Air Jordan 11s. With 2.9 million pairs produced, why are people so willing to throw away their money?
Dunks wants more time on the show dedicated strictly to Yeezy talk. Nope.
Adidas is closing their factories in the U.S. and Germany. This comes after they claimed they were going to make more product in the U.S. a few years ago. The closures seem to be only impacting their Speedfactory facilities. That’s another Kanye promise he’s failed to deliver on.
And finally, Nike calls it quits with Amazon. The only reason the Swoosh partnered up with Jeff Bezos’ empire was because they thought they could control fakes, and third party resellers, on their platform. Now that they realize they can’t, Nike is leaving Amazon to focus more on selling DTC.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, Dunks, and Serena are in-studio with Caesar’s cousin Chene sitting in as a special guest.
Let it be known that Geeno is habitually out of pocket. That’s it. There’s nothing else to add to that.
We try to cop the new Nike Kyrie 6 that shock dropped on the SNKRS app during the show. Geeno is able to score a pair, but accidentally chooses the wrong size.
Dunks doesn’t agree with this week’s Fab 5 Sneaker Releases from the Previous Week.
Chene tells a few embarrassing stories about Caesar.
We give our thoughts on this year’s Nike X Doernbecher Collection.
One of our listeners calls in via our voice mail to ask which Air Jordan 11 do we think will release during 2020’s holiday season.
Adidas is leaving earth. Apparently there are hypebeast in space. At at the International Space Station. The 3 Stripes will be doing some R & D, with their Boost tech in particular, making them the first footwear brand to product test off of the planet.
Nike creates a sneaker exclusively for nurses, doctors, and other medical workers. We wonder when resellers will catch wind of it, and how much they’ll try to flip them for?
Nike is catching heat for making their products too good. You heard that right. The IAAF specifically has a problem with Nike’s ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT, feeling as if it gives athletes too much of a competitive advantage against their predecessors and their records.
Reebok finally gets rid of their Delta logo. While the logo will still appear on their CrossFit and UFC products, the fact that undoing a bad decision is considered newsworthy for Reebok tells you all you need to know about the current state of the brand.
And finally, some guy allegedly had $30k worth of sneakers and apparel stolen from his car at a Sneaker Con event. A bit of advice, if you’re going to try to hide something valuable in the back seat of your car, without peaking people’s interest, do more than just cover said valuables with a sheet.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, Francis 313, and Sarena are in-studio.
Caesar gets a pair of the “HoF” Air Jordan 2009 for a steal and looks to New White Ranger for validation. He doesn’t get it.
The crew notices that Dunks and Francis have never been seen in the same room at the same time. Coincidence?
Ro Spit, owner of Burn Rubber, addresses the controversy over their “Fearless” Air Jordan 1 release, where they allowed their customers to compete in “Fear Factor” inspired challenges to reserve their pairs.
Sarena shoots her shot. Any lucky gentleman looking to gain her favor, all it will take is a pair of Champion sneakers. Women’s size 9.
Big Baller Brand is now the Baller Financial Network, courtesy of former co-owner, and alleged embezzler, Alan Foster. This is the best reality show in sneakers right now.
The Flyease Air Jordan 1 was made for the handicapped and impaired, and apparently, resellers didn’t get the memo. Just when you thought you couldn’t hate them anymore they you do, they’re flipping shoes–some for as much as $10k–made specifically for people with disabilities. Stay classy.
Adidas is looking to dump John Wall and his contract. After aggressively pursuing him a few years ago, the 3 Stripes is now aggressively trying to divorce him. Should’ve had a pre-nup.
Skechers wins a battle, but will they win the war? The courts sided with Skechers, saying that they didn’t steal the midsole patent of the Converse Chuck Taylor. But Nike isn’t one to take a loss. Not only are they appealing that decision, they’re also refining their other lawsuit against Skechers involving their Vapormax and Air Max 270 technology. At this point, their lawyers must have a residency at their local courthouse.
Somehow, as we muddle through the particulars of Skechers v. Nike, we come across a guy who holds the record for lawsuits. He’s literally sued everyone and everything. Maybe we should lawyer up.
And finally, after recently removing Kevin Plank as their CEO, Under Armour is now under a federal investigation coming from both the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission over their revenue books from the last few years. If there was ever a time to attend an Under Armour party it would be now.
In Episode 237 of TSB, Caesar, Guru, Dunks, and Geeno are in-studio.
The “SBB 3.0” Air Jordan 1 finally dropped. Was the release what you expected?
Speaking of Jordan 1s, the WMNS “Fearless” Air Jordan 1 released. Does it seem that Jordan Brand half asses their women’s releases?
It’s a sneaker fire sale. Feels like damn near every brand is getting rid of their CEOs, or someone equally important. Mark Parker of Nike, Kevin Plank of Under Armour, and Eric Liedtke of Adidas. But while most of them are no longer holding the title of CEO, they’re still with their prospective brands, holding a different–more powerful–position within the company.
Guru unveils what could be the most ugliest sneaker we’ve ever seen in our show’s history.
Dunks is literally training for Complex Con: Long Beach. He wants to make sure he can outpace the other resellers who will descend upon the event.
Is it hard to market a football players sneaker? Will there be another Mike Vick?
Geeno loses a debate to Dunks. Geeno actually said that Victor Cruz’s Nike Trainers looked just like Kanye’s Nike Yeezys.
Can Under Armour ever compete with the likes of Adidas and Nike?
One day we’ll read one of the worse marketing rundowns sent to us in the past by Dick’s Sporting Goods. It was SO bad that we refused to read it at the time.
Dunks almost successfully turned Guru into a hypebeast live on the show.
And finally, each member of the crew tries to pick their top 5 sneaker silhouettes of all time, but they all find it difficult to narrow down. So they agreed to come back next episode with their top 15.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, Dunks, Geeno, and Sarena are in-studio.
The crew gets some unexpected gifts from MNML.LA, Foot Locker, and Reebok.
The crew dissect the upcoming Jordan Brand “Fearless” Pack.
The third installment in any franchise always disappoints. While we were all hoping for “John Wick 3” execution with the upcoming “SBB 3.0” Air Jordan 1, it seems that Jordan Brand has given us something more in line with “The Godfather III”.
The crew finds newfound hope in the sneaker community when Dunks informs them that resellers are staying away from Fkyease sneakers made for people with disabilities. Or maybe the bar is so low that this seems honorable for them.
Guru, Geeno, and Caesar get into a heated debate about LeBron’s comments on Rockets GM Darryl Morey tweet supporting protesters in China.
And finally, the crew makes the case that O.J. Simpson on Twitter might be the highlight of 2019.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, Geeno, Dunks, and Sarena are in studio.
Dunks gets a new nickname.
They debate why hypebeasts seem to get offended whenever we call them out for being hypebeast.
Someone calls in on the new voicemail hotline to ask about the upcoming “Playoff” Air Jordan 11 Retro.
Doesn’t the “YouTube” Nike KD 12 look like it’s own fake?
Caesar strikes out on the “Chicago” Air Jordan XXX4 and he’s not happy about it. Especially when you hear the reason why.
Nike needs to expand their NikeiD options, from colorways to sneaker models. Imagine if they put Jordans on NikeiD. They’d be printing their own money.
Is Kanye’s Sunday Service genuinely inspired by gospel music or is he disingenuously capitalizing on it to regain favor in the black community and make money?
Travis Scott responds to the backlash over his recent Air Jordan 6 release. His statement gives the impression that he’s going to do something about the reseller problem that surrounds most hyped releases, but will he? And even if he wanted to, can he really do anything that’ll make a difference?
Why is Brad Hall still a thing?
Someone made a custom sneaker with holy water injected into the air bag of a Nice Air Max 98 and sold it for $1,400 each. A sucker is born everyday.
Is there any way Nike can revive the Air Force-1 line?
And finally, who’s the worse movie love interest? Rose from “Titanic” or Jenny from “Forrest Gump”? If you think about it, the decision is a lot harder than you’d assume.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, JumpmanBostic, and Dunks are in studio.
Once again Geeno has to restart “the streak”.
Caesar and Dunks give their non-spoiler review of “Joker”.
Is it too early to determine which teams will make the NBA playoffs, after only one preseason game? If so, someone tell Guru.
Nike has exceeded Wall Street analyst’s expectations for last quarter, making over $200 million more than expected. This leads to a healthy debate between Caesar and Guru about Nike’s push to sell more direct-to-consumer.
Dunks brings in his latest Nike “By You”. Caesar thinks they’re dope, but JumpmanBostic doesn’t believe him.
Fans on social media made fun of LeBron James’ unboxing video of his “Future Air” LeBron 17s. Guess who rushes to his defense?
Speaking of Guru, don’t EVER take a bag, or a package, from him without thoroughly checking it first. Trust us on this.
It’s not even Christmas and Foot Locker is already in the giving spirit. They recently invested $3 million into the NTWRK platform. This move will allow them to sell more of the more covered releases, AND gives them access to celebrities in which to market their products through.
Once again, Skechers stands accused of ripping off another brand’s designs. Once again, it’s Nike. And once again, Skechers finds itself on the defensive end of a lawsuit. The best part about this story is the fact that the Skechers CEO actually created a Skechers infused verb to describe their attempts to rip off other brand’s and their designs.
And finally, Alan Foster, former inmate and co-founder of Big Baller Brand, isn’t going to lay down and die quietly. He’s countersuing Lonzo and Lavar Ball, and alleges that Lavar, not him, was the one who embezzled millions of dollars away from the company. Not only that, Alan accuses Lavar of exploiting his sons for fame. Since neither person has any credibility, this ought to be one hell of a public court battle.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, and Dunks are in studio.
None of these topics have anything to do with sneakers, BUT: Charles Bronson was the Liam Neeson of the 1980s. The jury got the O.J. verdict right. And Michael Jackson is 100% innocent. @ us.
Imagine living everyday with the knowledge that you missed out on $8 billion. That’s the tragic story, and reality, of Spencer Haywood and his deal with Nike.
Are Air Jordan IIs underrated?
PUMA has joined in the Global Fashion Pact to advocate greener manufacturing process to produce sneakers and apparel.
Things we thought we’d never say. Nike and Crocs have joined together, along with many other shoe brands, to demand that Trump backs off of his tariff war with China.
Nike wins 2019 Design Company of the Year.
And finally, in This Week In Stupid, in one story, the reward for a sneaker thief is worth way more than the sneakers he stole. And two different men, at two different times, were assaulted over the same shoe, resulting with one of the victims being ‘Rick James’, bitched slapped during the assault.
In this episode of TSB, it’s a full house. Well, kind of. Geeno, Dunks, Guru, JumpmanBostic, and Caesar are in studio.
The show jumps off with a reseller who calls in to incriminate himself. Lol. Let’s hope his employer doesn’t listen to this episode.
JumpmanBostic REALLY “loves” Supreme. Almost as much as he “loves” Yeezys.
Adidas is looking to pay influencers to hauk their product through their Creators Club. They incentive you by either paying you 6%, or, by giving it to charity. We’re going to go out on a limb and… Nevermind.
PUMA says it’s not trying to compete with Nike or Adidas, they’re just trying to stay in their lane and push out good product. Understandable. But their rationale and reasoning leaves one to wonder if they actually know what Nike and Adidas do.
Nike finally loses at something. Kind of. They rank 8th place on the list of the healthiest companies in the world. We guess going vegan paid off after all for the Swoosh.
Lavar Ball is being, well, Lavar Ball. But has he finally crossed the line? Are people finally tired of his act? And is Big Baller Brand worth the trouble to rebuild?
And finally, In This Week In Stupid, if you’re going to be the victim of a crime, don’t contribute to it by being equally stupid. This is a story so dumb that you almost feel bad for the criminals.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, MJ, and Dunks are in-studio.
This week was just a hodgepodge of current topics. We also introduce our newest sponsor, streetwear and clothing brand MNML LA.
Reebok has its moments. But they’re far and in between. You’d think in this era of retro-everything they’d thrive, similar to FILA and K-Swiss. God we hope Shaq buys them away from Adidas.
Caesar goes over his weekend at Sneaker Con D.C.
Caesar and Dunks debate over the usage of bots within the sneaker community. Are they a necessary evil? Or are they just evil? Either way, it’s definitely a sign of the times we live in.
And, this has nothing to do with anything, but has Austin Powers aged well? Had it held up over the test of time or was it just good for its day?
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, Geeno, and Dunks are in studio.
Jordan Brand trolled everyone by allowing us to believe that the black, red, and white Air Jordan 1 releasing on Black Friday was another “Banned” retro. It’s not. Not only that, but it just seems that Jordan Brand is struggling creatively lately. They’re either force feeding stories and themes behind certain releases, or they’re rehashing the same old colorways over, and over, and over again.
Yeezys. It’s really doesn’t matter what in the box anymore. As long as it says “YEEZY” on the front of it, people will buy it.
StockX has a class action lawsuit on their hands, spearheaded by a kid in Kansas.
Nike wins “Retailer of the Year”, which shouldn’t be too surprising considering how much they’re focusing on the direct-to-consumer side of things. But if we had to make up our own category, Under Armour would definitely win “Party Planner of the Year”.
Olympic gold medalist, and world champion, Allyson Felix threw up the double deuce to the Swoosh and signed with the Gap’s newest upstart brand “Athleta”. Maybe if she was a flag, some of the other Nike athletes would’ve given her cause more support and attention.
And finally, Steve Madden is apparently still a thing in 2019, acquiring our show’s first sponsor, Greats Brand. We guess it’s not the weirdest acquisition story in the world. Just Google “Habro” and “Death Row Records”.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Geeno, Guru, MJ, and newcomer, Dunks, are in-studio.
Of course the show begins with the controversy surrounding the release of the WOMEN’S “Black Toe” Satin Air Jordan 1. The controversy being that a bunch of disgruntled, small-footed men couldn’t get their hands on a women’s shoe.
The crew begs the question, “Who else is tired of Air Jordan 1s?” And, “What are some of the more underrated brands and sneakers?”
Nike hopes to gain lifelong customers by getting them while they’re young. The Swoosh created the “Adventure Club” to help remove some of the burden parents have in purchasing shoes for their kids. Seems like Nike is forgetting the main ingredient that produces such brand loyalty. Nostalgia.
Under Armour just can’t get right. You can tell that they want to, but they just can’t figure out a way to make a product that appeals to the masses. While their products may underwhelm, it’s been said that they can throw a bomb ass company party.
Pyer Moss designer and founder, Kerby Jean-Raymond, has been named as the artistic director of a new division at Reebok called “Reebok Studios”. All things considered, seems like it would be like getting hired as a VJ at MTV.
And finally, in his continued effort to show the world that he’s one of America’s biggest regrets, Donald Trump’s tariff war with China is going to start hitting your pockets sooner than you think. Like “next month” soon. Hope everyone enjoys paying resell prices at retail.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, and Geeno are in studio.
This episode is a hodgepodge of topics, including: who really won the beef between Nas and Jay-Z? How differently would the beef between 2Pac and Biggie gone had Biggie actually responded directly? Was the original version of the Power Rangers the best version? Important questions that are all related somehow.
The crew eventually get back to sneakers. Far-fetch is going for broke by betting on Off-White, along with a stable of other brands. Far-fetch, despite their shareholders misgivings, has bought the New Guards Group, which owns brands like Off-White and Heron Preston, for a little over half a-billi. Far-fetch needs a win, so we’ll see how this plays out.
Nike acquires A.I. platform “Celect” to help them forecast customers buying habits. They could’ve just bought a trench coat and binoculars like a normal stalker.
Adidas shares dropped like temperatures in December. Well, only 3%. BUT STILL, noticeable enough for it to be a news story. The 3 Stripes mostly blames the set back squarely on the shoulders of their supply chain. Demand can be a good problem to have. But how, after 5+ years of increased demand for your product, can you still not properly anticipate it enough to meet it in a serviceable way? How Sway?
And finally, Caesar does another segment of Shoe Check where he calls resell shops across the country looking for the StockX X Reebok Shaq Attaq “Hack Attaq”.
In this episode of TSB, it’s just Caesar and Geeno in-studio.
Cait, the sound engineer, is named the new White Ranger, proving to little girls everywhere that they too can dream big of one day contributing inappropriate banter on a semi-successful podcast.
Of course we had to touch on StockX debacle from this past weekend. StockX stands accused of deceiving their customers by attempting to cover up, and lie about, a hack that attacked their system in May.
Colin Kaepernick and Nike are nominated for an Emmy for their “Dream Big” ad that ran last year. Can’t wait for the inevitable “boycotting things we don’t do anyway” by the segment of Kap haters out there when the awards show airs next month.
Jordan Crawford claims that Nike still owes him $500 for dunking on LeBron James back in 2009. Cash, check, or Nike+ store credit, he wants his bread. This story ultimately leads into a conspiracy about Nike’s attempt to conceal, and confiscate, any evidence of any alleged dunk on Mr. James. Either way, we don’t know if it’s cheap, petty, or both on Nike’s part.
Adidas reiterates their plans to go completely green in 2024 by only using recycled plastics to make their products. Included in this is the use of “virgin” polyesters, not to be confused with “fast” polyesters, which is apparently a much “looser” material to work with.
And finally, to end the show on a positive note–we’re looking at you StockX–a woman in Arkansas buys up the entire inventory of shoes at a local Payless to give away to children in need.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, Guru, and Geeno are in-studio.
Off the bat Caesar catches slack for rocking a Roc-A-Wear polo.
Do people count the Tinker 3s as part of the Air Jordan signature line, or moreso as another Jordan Brand hybrid, such as the 6 Rings?
The crew looks back on the good ol’ days of buying sneakers, wishing they could go back and snatch up the first versions of retros that ended up on sales racks back in 1994.
Continuing their trip down memory lane, the crew somehow segues to movies. Beginning with classics such as Scarface, Casino, and Goodfellas, they work their way to their Black counterparts such as Hoodlum, American Gangsta, and Harlem Nights.
The crew then moves on to trading high school stories on how they used to torture their teachers.
Realizing that they’re a sneaker podcast, the crew centers their conversation back to footwear. Zion Williamson shocks everyone by signing with Jordan Brand. Will he be able to establish himself as a brand while playing in Jordan’s shadow? Even better question, will Jordan Brand actually make a decent shoe for someone other than MJ?
Sotheby’s sold a rare pair of 1972 Nike Moon Shoes for a record breaking $437,500. The winner of that auction must’ve had money burning in his pocket, because he spent another $800k on buying up the remaining 99 sneakers in the auction. The real winner in this? Shoezeum.
Shaq is teaming up with Skechers to make affordable basketball sneakers for kids. If you’re Reebok right now you have to take a long, deep look into that mirror and reflect on where your life went wrong.
The GOAT app has gone international, finally arriving in China. Now we can finally weed out all of those fake Qiaodan sneakers that are floating around out there.
Adidas, sounding like a husband who’s wife has had enough, vows that they can, and will, change. Baby. They know that they’ve said all of this before, but dammit baby, this time they mean it.
In This Week In Stupid, people continue to arrange sneaker deals through OfferUp, and almost always they continue to get robbed. This news leads to another one of Guru’s famous Red Lobster stories. This one involves a gun fight and a guy hiding in the freezer. In another work related story, Guru’s manager goes to the bathroom to have sex leaving him to man the drive-thru by himself.
And finally, Caesar reads some more Yelp 1 Star Sneaker Store Reviews. This time we search the city of Washington D.C. for bad reviews, landing on complaints posted against sneaker boutiques like UBIQ, Major, and Commonwealth.
In this episode of TSB, Caesar, JumpmanBostic, Guru, and Geeno are in-studio.
Kick It Wit DD calls in to vent about the upcoming Nike Kyrie 5 “Sponge Bob” Pack. Apparently someone at Nike thought that shoes themed after a cartoon should come exclusively in men’s sizes. She also describes the scene at last week’s Arizona X Adidas Originals pop-up in New York where they were selling the collection for 99¢ per shoe.
Connor TV also calls in to give his impression of this year’s Complex Con, which was held in Chicago for the first time. Later in the conversation, he and JumpmanBostic debate over who has the better Yeezy collection.
They say splitting up is the easiest part of a divorce, it’s the custody battle that turns it ugly. That seems to also stand true in the case of Kawhi Leonard v. Nike. The Swoosh filed a countersuit against Kawhi, basically calling his sketch trash (if you’ve seen the picture, it kinda is though). What might be Kawhi’s undoing is a 2014 interview with Nice Kicks.
In This Week In Stupid, seems like the ladies can steal and get robbed just like the men. Two women in Australia rob a store by stuffing sneakers in their purses. The crazy part of that story? After being confronted by an employee, one of the women fled the store only to come back and rob it again. In another story two women were robbed, leaving one of them shot in the stomach. The irony of it all was that they specifically chose the location to meet up because it was located right across the street from a police station.
And finally, we deep dive in the culinary differences between the races. It’s literally black and white, night and day. In the course of our conversation we stumble across a hidden profession of Geeno’s. j
In this episode of TSB, it’s the skeleton crew, with Caesar, Geeno, and special guest Sarena in studio.
Francis somehow becomes a guest on his own show, calling us live from London on a top secret mission. Francis, who’s Puerto Rican, has somehow convinced everyone in the UK that’s he’s French.
A lot of people took issue with Jordan Brand’s use of the “Space Jam” theme on the 11 Low IE. Aesthetics aside, is that enough reason to not buy the shoe?
Sotheby’s is getting into the sneaker market, partnering with Stadium Goods to auction off 100 of the “rarest” sneakers available today. But there’s “rare” and then there’s “Sotheby’s rare”, and we’re not sure some of the shoes warrant the latter. Especially for some of the prices they’re hoping they sell for. But with all of these outside entities wanting in on sneakers now that they see the financial value, does that further bastardize the culture as we know it?
It might be a little early in the year, but LeBron was in the Christmas spirit, gifting his No. 23 to new teammate Anthony Davis. That is, until Nike–playing the role of the Grinch–nixed that act of goodwill citing 10 million reasons why. This is a perfect example of why you should just buy people gift cards instead of actual gifts.
After kicking up all that dust last week concerning Nike’s cancelation of the ‘Betsy Ross’ Air Max 1, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey “Michael Jackson moonwalked” his words back, doing a complete about face on the issue and welcoming Nike to the state. He literally went from “Bad” to “I Want You Back” in a span of 6 days. It’s not that the decision he ultimately came to was the wrong one, it’s just the hypocrisy and moral ambiguity he displayed to reach the decision.
And finally, in this week’s top story, Adidas continues to show how obtuse they are when it comes to their minority employees. One would think that after the l negative PR they’ve received this year that they would take a good hard look at themselves as a brand to see what they’re doing wrong. Not Adidas. Not only are they NOT taking an introspective look at their Portland HQ, but they’re congratulating themselves on a job well done this week by hosting a celebration at Adidas Village.
This is the sneaker equivalent of George Bush’s infamous “Mission Accomplished” celebration on the aircraft carrier. Many other minorities, including Asians and LGBTQ employees, added their own personal stories to the ones we’ve heard to shine more light on the issues that plague Adidas Village. It’s gotten so bad that not only are minority employees planning to boycott Adidas’ celebration, but some have even reached out to outside counsel for legal help. Maybe Adidas should change their moniker from “the brand with 3 Stripes” to “the brand with 3 Strikes”.
