Submit ReviewIn 2008, Raina the Halifax Mermaid (Stephanie Norman) found a unique and life transforming way to deal with the mobility reducing pain from endometriosis and interstitial cystitis combined with dyspraxia. Following the lead of Darryl Hannah in the 1984 movie Splash, she donned a rubber mermaid’s tail and dove into the water (with her boyfriend on call to save her from potential drowning!) Back then she hardly knew how to swim but deep down she was born to be a mermaid and went on to found a company of professional mermaids (and merwranglers)!
Listen to her inspiring and meraculous story here and learn about merculture, merverts, the dangers and perils of the mermaid profession, her own struggles with career and health and so much more!

At long last my taskmaster — Life(tm) — has granted me some stay and I have had a chance to edit and release one of my favourite interviews from the past few months! This one is with dwarf tossee and all round Renaissance Man, Mighty Mike Murga (http://mightymike.tv)
I say Renaissance Man, because Mike’s talents span much more than simply being a little person who, for a substantial fee, will agree to become a living projectile. He’s actually got an impressive career in acting and music. He’s toured (and partied) with the likes of Mötley Crüw, Britney Spears, the freaking Rolling Stones and Kim Kardashian!
Mike recounts some entertaining and valuable life experiences and lessons with me – given his work with celebrities, rockers and on set in film/television– without even mentioning his life as Mini-Eminem, Mini-Elvis, Mini-Kiss and Mini-Kid Rock AND an actual Minister who can officiate ceremonies — Mike keeps it real and delivers the goods. Some of this talk may not be fluffy New Age, but I think if we all listened to what Mike has to say, we may go far.
The conversation begins with the controversy surrounding Dwarf Tossing but morphs into Mike’s past in Ontario Canada – dealing with bullies at school – working his way up with odd jobs – and reaching success in showbiz by never giving up and always finishing what he starts.

Way back in the early 2000s, my girlfriend and I went to get my very first body piercing at Montreal’s premiere body piercing studio, the still-legendary Black Sun. This highly professional studio was really like a calm juxtaposition between medical clinic and meditation spa. The music, the exotic fish aquariums, the high quality jewellery, the huge needles and medical chairs — it’s hard to explain. We’ll talk about this and body modification.
It was Pierre Black, from which the shop got its namesake, who set a new bar for quality here in Montreal and perhaps across North America and I’m glad I got to be pierced by him several times.
Pierre has since closed Black Sun, and has gone into natural healing, coaching and meditation after having studied under a Buddhist priest in a Japanese temple. We’ll talk about that along with some profound truthes we’ve both found over the last two decades or so since he was pushing a needly through my scrotum.
Speaking of scrotums, we’ll also talk about cephalopod loincloths, saline solution injection into foreheads and breasts, extreme blood letting, the chopping off of fingers as art projects, and Pierre’s near death by blood letting while asleep — You may all remember I’m really afraid of blood, so this ought to be interesting.

REMEMBER TO BECOME AN ORDAINED MINISTER OF THE CHURCH OF THE SUBGENIUS: http://subgenius.com
Back in 1994, I walked into the Computer Science lab at McGill University here in Montreal for the first time and what did I see as a screensaver on some of the Unix machines? The floating disembodied grinning head of J.R. “Bob” Dobbs!
This got burnt into my mind and I would continue to run into “Bob” in print media, signs and stickers and on the Internet every so often for years until finally, I sent in my $35 for my own membership into the illustrious cult and got some Slack!
Back in June, I was thrilled to have co-founder of the Church, Philo Drummond, on the show! Finally, I am releasing this – the New Years episode – impossibly late!
Learn more about J.R. “Bob” Dobbs, Philo Drummond. Ivan Stang and the Church of the SubGenius over at the church’s main website:
Much of the music is from Philo’s SoundCloud page (see below) but I also sourced the Church’s recruitment video ARISE!
But there is a new documentary on the Church coming out at the prestigious SXSW festival soon!: https://schedule.sxsw.com/2019/films/2008811
Here’s the trailer to the new movie:
I also pulled in some stuff from the longest running SubGenius radio show, Puzzling Evidence:
https://kpfa.org/program/puzzling-evidence/
And the beautiful narration about the abandoned futuristic house done by Dr Hal is from his radio program , Ask Dr Hal on Radio Valencia:
http://www.radiovalencia.fm/podcasts/?episode=30305
And of course you can hear Reverend Ivan Stang over at Hour of Slack every week:
http://hourofslack.libsyn.com/
The clip of Ivan talking about the Bushes being part of a baby killing cult comes from the documentary about Jack Chick that Philo referenced:
God’s Cartoonist: The Comic Crusade of Jack Chick

In 2012, NYPD cop Gil Valle was thrust into the national media as the “cannibal cop”. He was arrested and charged by the FBI for conspiracy to kidnap, torture and eat at least a dozen women with other supposed cannibals on a fetish message board.

I got to talk with him for over an hour awhile back over the internet. He’s actually in his car in a rainstorm!

Awhile back I got an email from the Current Earthly Embodiment of Lord Mandek Penha, creator and leader of the Church of Sarrean Alignment about their new album on Spotify! I was able to track him down on the phone from what is apparently the restroom of an international airport somewhere in the middle of the night.
It’s a brief interview, but the episode does contain some of the tracks from the new album along with the audio from the music video to A Village Story:
FYI: Listen to the original interview with the CEE where we explain what this is all about: http://shareaslicepodcast.com/cee/
There seem to be many changes possibly afoot for the CEE and his church, so he sounded a bit harried. The interview was cut a little short, but I provide it here now for your listening pleasure. (Please excuse some of the clipping and distortion on the audio, I did what I could but the acoustics were unforgiving).
Check out the website of Mandek Penha: http://mandekpenha.com

For guest Alexis Hunter there was no woman in the world more beautiful than television’s Marilyn Munroe, Joi Lansing. Born in Utah, Joi rose to fame in Los Angeles to become a major blonde bombshell — appearing on the cover to LIFE magazine, starring alongside Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, appearing on the Beverly Hillbillies as a regular, offered a contract by Lucille Ball — hit on by Marilyn Munroe! Alexis got to meet Joi — and then they fell in love!
Watch the video version of this podcast episode here: https://youtu.be/KS14JhkHv3g
It was in 1969, on the set of the laughably horrible B-movie Big Foot, that Alexis Hunter first met Joi Lansing. Joi was professional as ever and looked stunning — Alexis was wearing a gorilla suit and wearing plastic fangs! Joi was still impressed by Alexis (or maybe she just felt pity).
Like a scene from a movie, when their eyes later met in a go-go dance club — Alexis was the go-go dancer! — it was the beginning of a Love Story which is recounted in Joi Lansing: A Body to Die For. (https://www.amazon.com/JOI-LANSING-BODY-Love-Story/product-reviews/1593937989/)
Alexis Hunter wrote this book to celebrate her time with Joi — the were lovers and best friends and, in a way, sisters. She wrote this book to keep every day she had with Joi alive on paper. Cancer took Joi only 3 years after they first met in that go-go club.

I realise it’s been over a month since the last episode. The fall has brought some changes to the schedule at my house along with a new job for both me and my wife. This has sort of wreaked havoc on the podcast time, but I expect things will settle down soon enough.
Ever felt like life was going to break you? You need to bend! That was the lesson learned with Edina from Silika Contortion in Toronto during a great conversation I had with her!
We’ll talk about contortion, her trip from being a university student with chronic arthritis pain and constant stress to living her dream as a performer with strength and grace — like dealing with life. We’ll talk about how her stretching and contortion has directly helped her fight her inner demons. There’s much more to this than simply stretching!
