On today's episode of Setting The Pace, Alex Golden is joined by Chris Denari to look at the Pacers first week of play and share what's been good, what's been bad, and what this team can learn from the games they've played. Chris shares some insight into the Pacers trip to Orlando, why he is a fan of Raising Canes, whether or not Quinn Buckner is ready to let a smothered chicken out anytime soon and what makes Quinn so beloved around the league.
Here are the questions we discussed during the podcast:
-Will the win against Boston be the turnaround this team needs from their slow start?
-Bennedict Mathurin was a key contributor in both Pacers' wins: Can he and does he need to sustain a high level of play overall for the Pacers to have success?
-What are the protocols on reporting injuries in game - Andrew Nembhard exited game against Boston with a knee injury
-TJ McConnell's playing time in Orlando reduced. Will Pacers elect to rest him on back-to-backs?
-Will the Pacers need to add a center to their roster with the Wiseman injury and Myles already missing a game with an injury?
-Why has Tyrese gotten off to a slow start? What are the biggest differences you see in his style of play and how teams are defending him?
-Early season thoughts on Pascal and areas you'd like to see him improve or the team improve around him?
-Biggest issues you've seen with the Pacers team early on in the season?

Alex and Facci conclude the October Mailbag by answering these awesome questions below:
1). Andrew
I know there is much to see with the season around the corner. But, if it came down to it and the Pacers decided to make a young talent, consolidation trade. Who is a player you’d love to see the Pacers target in that trade? Love y’all’s podcast, keep up the good work! Yes ‘Cers!
2). DFC - Dirty Flirty Curty
Do you have any outta the box ideas or line ups you would like to see this season? Personally, I love to see Nembhard-Siakam inverted PnR.
3). Etan
Do you guys think the pacers could be active at the deadline?
4). Schwarz Bruder
If the Pacers were to make a consolidation trade, what star player would make the most sense to trade for and what do you think it would take (and are there any solid role players we could sneak in the deal like Minny getting DDV)
5). Christopher Waltermire
How much improvement have you seen from Walker. Will he be the defender this team needs?
6). Evan Noggle
Can the Pacers still have a successful season if Tyrese regresses statistically?

Alex and Facci return to answer more questions from the October Mailbag. Thanks to our awesome fans for sending in the questions!
1). Garret from Buffalo, NY
We seemed to be better defensively after Benn was injured last season. Do you think we will be better defensively this season with Mathurin back? Do you think Walker is a regular in the starting five at any point this season?
2). Michael Lucas (back again!)
Do you think Jarace Walker makes a substantial leap this year, or is he still buried on the depth chart? Who do you think will be the Pacers MIP? I think Nembhard will fly under the radar, with the focus on Rese and Siakam, and put up really good numbers.
3). Michelle WZ
Who do you think is the most effective player for P? Aside from Hali being the main playmaker, who is going to pair w Siakam and gain the most when he's on the floor
4). Josh @ XCERT3K
Please keep up those hot takes! I know you guys think the slogans are always corny. What would you guys make it if given the opportunity? Who on the team do you think will be the leader in PPG in the starting 5 and off the bench come new year’s day? Thanks!
5). Luke Harris
Do y’all think a consolidation trade is ultimately in the teams future? Heard this take a lot, and while it makes sense on paper with our depth, I don’t think I can watch any of these guys go thrive on another team
6). D.J. Davis
Who makes the biggest jump this year? Mathurin, Walker or someone else?

Alex and Facci are back for another podcast episode! Today, the guys answer YOUR questions for the month of October! Thanks to our awesome listeners for their questions!
1). Michael Lucas
Do you think Mathurin plays a Jamal Crawford like 6th man? Average 30+minutes and closing out the game instead of Nesmith? Or does he run primarily with 2nd unit and Average 20-24 minutes. I don't see him starting over Nesmith. He'd be 1st option 2nd unit. 3-4th option 1st unit. IMO
2). Randall Wood
With the current roster, which position is the weakest in your opinion?
3). Matthew Peck
With the loss of Jalen Smith, our overall rebounding could take somewhat of a hit. Do you feel that the combination of I Jax & Wiseman can make up what Smith brought? He only got 5.5 rebounds a game but his Per 36 was 11.6 How can team improve it's overall rebounding as well?
4). Ricky Kelley
Whats your thoughts on not having new jerseys, after we wore Gold for every single playoff game! It seemed like they were done with our jerseys! But i guess not
5). Christopher Lloyd
Thanks for the great podcast guys, stoked for this season!
Love what Aaron Nesmith brings to the game, but let's be real: he's better suited as a bench guy. Who do you think is most likely to challenge him for the starting spot: Jarace, Sheppard, Furphy or somebody else?
6). Aaron M
What are the odds that Wiseman takes Jackson’s minutes at center by the end of the season? I just have a feeling he’s better than he’s been able to showcase elsewhere.

The Indiana Fever fall 87-81 to the Connecticut Sun after a terrific effort to come back from multiple deficits in the 2nd half. Aliyah Boston was sensational, Caitlin Clark was drastically better in Game 2 than she was in Game 3, NaLyssa Smith got benched for Temi Fagbenle, Kelsey Mitchell had her moments and Lexie Hull competed hard on both ends of the floor. The Sun's defense was too much for the Fever, and their experience/late game shot making abilities are what lifted them in this one.
Alex Golden is joined once again by Jolee Carroll to discuss the game, the future of the Fever, whether or not the Fever should bring back free agent Kelsey Mitchell (Alex gives an interesting NBA comp of two similar players), what NaLyssa Smith's future might look like, how the league handled all the Caitlin Clark exposure and more! Then, the guys answer your questions about the forming of Setting The Pace, Tyrese's role next season, winning a title in the future and MORE!
ben @bviddy72
I think I asked you about how Facci came to be a pacers fan growing up on the east coast and how you guys got connected to create the podcast awhile back, but I may not have listened if you guys ever addressed that.
Samuelpippo @samuelpippo
Guys, should Tyrese be having more of a i score first then assist mentality. Last year, he been making plays to uplift every other in the game, given they else are almost maximising their game. I see only Tyrese uplifting his points to 28 and having 8 assists better to the team
Adam @RedsfanRip19
Do you think this team can really win a championship next season? I know they made a huge jump last season..just curious if you think they have a legit shot next season with nearly everyone back.
BROZZY @BillyOs
What defensive scheme do you feel is most appropriate for this line up? Is the offensive scheme the reason for why our defense has been so hard to be improve? You notice the d got better in the playoffs. When they focused more on half court actions offensively.

We are back with Pt. 5 of the 6-part mailbag! Today, Alex and Facci dive into one of the biggest topics from this offseason and moving forward: CONSOLIDATION TRADES! Yes, there are a ton of fans who DO NOT want the Pacers to make a drastic move and disrupt the current roster, but there are SEVERAL fans who are incredibly intrigued with the idea of making a BIG MOVE to better the top tier talent on the roster. Alex and Facci discuss this for a majority of the episode and then dive into some other non-trade questions at the end.
el_peckbo @EL Peckbo
We talk about consolidation trades because of to many players with similar size & skill sets vs. playing time. We rarely address what position or particular players we want in return. So with that in mind each of you give us an actual trade that you would like to see.
bottleweeb @bottleweeb
Who do you think is going to get dealt in a consolidation trade (it is almost inevitable) and what do you hope to get in return?
Colts Commentary @ColtsCommentary
Unrealistic/ impossible consolidation trade targets that some fans might bring up
Etan @Etan387
If u could pick one all time pacer to put on this team not named reggie miller who would it be?
Evan Noggle @EvanNoggle
I've heard rumors of a potential rebrand. Is this the right time? What would you like to see in a rebrand for this team?

Part 4 of the Mailbag is here! We are pumped to chat with you all today...thanks to everyone for sending in their questions, as we dive into the Canadian duo of Benn Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard.
Josh Lovell @JoshLov70209230
How do you see the Nembhard/Math/Nesmith trio fitting, long term? Will 2 of them start, whilst the other comes off the bench? Which one? Or 2 off the bench? Or is a trade inevitable for one of them?
D.J. Davis @DJDavisLaw
Who do you believe is the most important player is for the Pacers to make the jump from #6 to #1 or 2 in wins in the Eastern Conference and why?
My belief is Benn Methurin. SF or SG who can score 16-22 pg, rebound, play tough D and be another player who can take over a game.
christopher waltermire @chriswalty30
You think Ben M. Will be a solid defender next year he shows flashes of what kinda defender he could be. also, will he win the starting job over Neismith?
Chase Sasin @chase sasin
With the nembhard extension, what do you expect out of him this upcoming season?
Q @quentinpeffley6
By the All Star Break do you think it's realistic that Mathurin over takes Nesmith as the starting 3? Or will Nesmith's defense keep him safe in the starting line up?
Randall Wood @Gold_swagger 24

Before all that, Alex gets the show kicked off with a LOADED NBA News Dump segment!
Matt Beckham @fakemattbeckham
Do you think Jarace could play some small ball 5 in order to get him minutes?
OffSN @PacersEnjoyer
Do you agree with my thinking that, almost inevitably, one of Jarace or Mathurin will traded at some point? With how loaded the depth chart is, it’s hard for me to see them BOTH as long-term contributors here. When should the Pacers look to shop them and add another win-now piece?
architectx22 @architectx22
Do you believe Obi's extension was more of a walking trade exception and buying time for Jarace or do you believe it is more of a we love Obi deal?
Random Questions
Rooster @roosterbra812
Of the current 15 rostered players, which ones do you think will be on the roster in 3 years and in 5 years?
Max @HartshornMax
How many minutes do you think Obi Toppin will be getting next season? I think he can be a massive asset for Rick next season!

Alex and Facci are back with Pt. 2 of the mailbag and they answer all of your questions about Myles Turner. Discussing Myles' future in Indy with this being his final year on his contract.
Joe Reagan @joe_bbjr69
I want Myles to remain a Pacer. With the cap pressure the Pacers will face though do you see the Pacers move on after next season? Woukd they stick with Jackson/Wiseman/maybe a $10-15 mil cheaper option rather than pay Myles $30 mil or so. Maybe it's required to pay Mathurin?
Christopher Lloyd @ChristopheLloyd
Great pod, guys! Recently y'all threw out out $25M/ per for Myles' next contract. If Hartenstein got $29M and Myles has similar numbers as the past two seasons (≥17p/7r/2b/37% from 3), I think a lot of teams want in & the bidding for his services STARTS at $35M. What say you?
Chris Weech @chrisofprod
Is there any world where we enter back in to the Myles Turner trade rumor season around February? What Intel would you have to know to pull the trigger on a mid season trade vs. letting him walk for nothing or over paying him?
(Btw love Myles and want him to retire a Pacer)
Pacer Faithful @jlh0215
Do you feel the Pacers are at a crossroads by the end of this year where they'll need to decide to either take a step backward or go into the tax to keep Myles? Or is there another way to keep improving?
Aaron @Aaroncd18
When do you think the pacers will or can extend Myles and McConnell

Jackson or Wiseman

Alex Golden and Mike Facci end the Mailbag series with these 6+ questions! Thanks everyone for sending them in...if you would like your questions read on air for the next mailbag, send them into @AlexGoldenNBA on Twitter. It is the BEST and ONLY place to submit them and 100% guarantee that they will be read on the podcast!
1). Matthew Peck — To keep forward momentum of the team going what 3 area's do you want to see the team address and in what order do you place them in importance?
2). Mann Marsden — Ok man I love Myles but do you feel it's time we get a rebounder and lob threat over the pic and pop type center he just doesn't have it he can shoot but that's it? Also, if we can get a bigger wing defender who do we give up for them?
3). Bucket — Assuming pascal gets the max, how much room under the cap do we have to sign obi? Assuming we keep all other rotation players, and Jalen smith walks
4). Peetie Peete — I see folks on twitter warming up to the idea of a sign and trade for PG. Given that will probably never happen, the one interesting FA I do see on the market is Malik Monk. Is there someone on the roster you would be willing to trade for Monk that could actually get it done?
5). Josh Lovell — Is it a good idea to give Nembhard an extension starting in year 4? Pro- locks him in at a reasonable price, for multiple years; Con- probably puts us in the luxury tax from 25/26 (assuming a Pascal max contract), instead of just paying Drew his team option of 2 million in 25/26
6). Cole Eckert — What are your thoughts on the Jarace/Jax/Jalen Smith/ Obi Toppin conundrums. I think we'll keep 3 (Jarace, Obi, and IJax) and play 2 (Jarace and Obi).

Alex Golden and Mike Facci are BACK for MORE Mailbag questions from the BEST fans in the world!
1). Jake Exline — If we run it back and have a healthy Mathurin and production out of Walker, do you think this is a championship contender? If not, what marginal move do you think we can make to get us there?
2). Rooster — Of our young players on rookie deals (Nembhard, Mathurin, Sheppard, Jarace, IJax) rank them in order of most likely to be extended to least. Also, how many players do you think we draft this year? Personally l'd like to see them try to trade 3 seconds to get a little higher.
3). Casey Johnson — To what extent do you feel the Pacers proved this year that playing fast in the playoffs is a winnable strategy? Do you think we will see other teams not worry about the rule of the playoffs slowing down?
4). Gentry Hudson — How do you feel the addition of a Fazoli's to Gainbridge Fieldhouse would enhance fan engagement?
5). Chase Sasin — Do you think tyrese, nembhard, and mathurin can be a good starting 1-3 for the future if mathurin came become a better defender?
6). Adam — Even though Nembhard is under contract, would you give him an extension if he is eligible this offseason? Also do you think Toppin made his case during this postseason that he should be brought back as well?

Alex Golden and Mike Facci take your mailbag questions and answer them on the podcast. Lots of great topics (as per usual) and fun things to discuss as the offseason is closer than it appears!
1). Aaron M — Is there a consolidation trade target that would actually be worth it (with Mathurin, Jarace, iJax, Nesmith being likely outgoing candidates)?
2). Randall Wood — Would you re-sign Toppin and play Walker at the 3 or use the cap space to sign a solidified 3 like Hayward and play Walker at the 4?
3). Pacer Faithful — The 2 biggest areas for improvement this team showed in the playoffs in my opinion were toughness and defense. Can we improve those things through internal development or do we need to make a trade? Also. Do you guys think Tyrese should play for team USA given his injury?
4). David Matillo — Is Aaron Nesmith a starter at the beginning of next season?
5). Ricky Kelley — Do you think we will get a new set of jerseys? If so what would you want for a redesign?
6). J Bax — What can Tyrese improve on to elevate this teams floor? Also, Concerning next year's roster, and considering who we have right now; who's redundant?
