This week we chat with Michelle Garza Cervera! She's a punk rocker and filmmaker whose debut feature film Huesera: The Bone Woman is currently streaming on VOD and will be available on Shudder in May. We chat about her roots in punk rock, discuss some of her favorite punk bands, and dig into the queer aspect of Huesera and how the movie subverts and transcends what we've historically seen in horror films centered around queerness. After this fantastic conversation, we explore David Lynch's The Elephant Man and why it was Michelle's Scarred for Life pick. We dig into the way the film makes the viewer a monster, the idea of humanity, and the existential realization that people are the monsters.
This was easily one of our favorite conversations on the podcast.
You can follow Michelle on Twitter and Instagram. Make sure to support her film on VOD. Huesera is going to be on a lot of people's best of the year lists, we're pretty sure so give it a watch.
