Submit ReviewDaroga finds himself in the very extra clutches of the Phantom, and his only hope for escape may be his personal Hell-- talking it out. Meanwhile, Raoul has a good news/bad news kind of day when he finds the perfect outfit in the labyrinthine hallways of the Opera Garnier... only to have his heart broken again. Christine tries to be a theatre kid again. Raoul gets a smaug look on his face. Daroga warms up.

Things are getting weird at the Opera Garnier; "Daroga" explores the bizarre underground lake while Raoul and Christine make some tough decisions about their futures. Christine puts a blinger on her finger. Raoul learns the language of the most majestic beast on the Earth. Daroga makes a house call. |

How about a date? Christine breaks a promise. Raoul decides on a reasonable number of horse-drawn chariots. The Patron makes contact.
Look, frankly, not a lot happens this episode until this one thing, and the one thing is A LOT. Raoul treats himself to a spa day. The Patron does some grilling. Christine discovers something tragic or happy, depending on who you ask.
If you play a TTRPG with Jensie, you will end up roleplaying a fancy dinner party 100 percent of the time. Christine isn't here, man. Raoul is vexed by this closet. The Patron is... vexed by the same closet.
Christine belts a practically divine solo, only to be pummeled by her newly-adoring public. Raoul to the rescue! Meanwhile, the mysterious Box 6 Patron uses the commotion as cover to look for clues in Box 5...
Hey, we're featuring a few episodes of Tales from the Cryptid on Roleplay Retcon's feed, hosted by investigative journalist Gaston Leroux (who sounds a lot like Jensie, haha what a kooky coincidence). Leroux has proof of what happened at the Opera Garnier in Paris in 1992, and the real story is wilder than anything you think you know about it.
Phantom of the Opera will be back next episode, but for now let's make a Holiday special! You know, the ones that flood TV this time of year and are all about Santa and reindeer and dentists and such. For ours, we'll be playing Alex Roberts' And to All a Good Night, an adaptation of her storytelling game For the Queen that helps us process our weird feelings about Santa Claus. |
Frankly, there hasn't been a good film adaptation Gaston Leroux's early 20th century novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra, a.k.a. The Phantom of the Opera. Andrew Lloyd Weber's musical is good, but it's also a far walk from the original book, which is an absolute banger and hilarious to boot (and the 2004 Joel Schumacher movie was panned by both critics and Phantom fans alike). So, Jensie has decided we're not remaking just one movie, but all of them!
That's not the only wild choice we've made: We'll be telling our story using the TTRPG Kids on Bikes, except with no kids and no bikes, just to prove how flexible this game actually is. In this episode we'll go over Kids on Bikes and introduce our characters: Special Guest Remick from Tales From the Forgotten Troupe plays the up-and-coming Opera Diva Christine Daaé, Alex is the well-mannered and romantic Viscount Raoul de Chagny and Ben is... someone we don't know much about, yet. |
There's something wrong with Abraham Lincoln, and the toys must rally the rest of their army to liberate the charging station before they power down forever. They're hoping to do so without plastic-shed, but this is war, after all...
Jess from Wannabe Games made a one-page RPG for us to remake the 1998 film Small Soldiers with*! Deitysaurus Flex, My Little Kitty, and Serpentina (a.k.a. Battle Princess Gorgana) are a new kind of "smart toy" that can "play back." But when the kids got to bed and it's time for them to get to their recharging and repair station, they find one of the toys has seized control of the vital resource and is willing to start a war over it.

We made 100 episodes of Roleplay Retcon! Whoa! To celebrate, we performed a live Retcon in our Discord server of Disney's The Country Bears, a doomed attempt to repeat the success of Pirates of the Caribbean by making another movie based on a Disney park attraction. We play Honey Heist by Grant Howitt and attempt to form the greatest (non-human) country music band of all time.
Take a seat next to the fire in our 12,000-square-foot drawing room. Gold-plated cigar? Kobe brandy? There, now that you're settled, let's talk honestly about Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and how Roleplay Retcon's version stacks up against it. We'll while away the evening with some fan-casting, some audience submissions for how they would have turned a movie dud to movie stud, and announce what's coming up next!
The mystery of Planet Tennessee and the Astrazoans is solved. All that's left is to survive to tell the story. Valerian gets a promotion. Laureline loud quits. Bubble gets the point.
Bob gets all "Transylvanian villager" on us and will only take the trio near the mysterious Sector L-630-E, where none dare tread. Valerian uses the boost to get through. Bubble introduces herself. Laureline is French, in case you didn't know.
The hunt is on for the cortex jellyfish, a mysterious creature that can pinpoint the location of Dolly with Bubble's memories. To find it, they'll need the help of Bob, the seasoned and spicy submarine captain. Valerian drives/pilots/swims...? a new vehicle. Laureline has a fan. Bubble takes a ride into her sub-conscious (get it?).
The trio dash after Mao's captors, hoping their messy business with Igon hasn't put them too far behind. Valerian makes a jaw-dropping discovery that changes the entire investigation. Laureline becomes an art broker instead of an art breaker. Bubble wastes away in Planet Margaritaville.
The perfect storm of bad luck that comes to every regularly-uploaded creative endeavor has come. Alex caught COVID and Jensie moved to Kobe, Japan (though their mic didn't get the memo), so our episode buffer ran out. To tide you over, we've collected three Bloops reels--collections of outtakes, deleted scenes, and other behind-the-magic content-- from our Twilight, Super Mario Bros., and Valerian series and recorded some brand new commentary to go along with it. Thanks for listening, sorry for the weirdsies, and we'll see you for Valerian again next episode! Unless we die! |
Igon Siruss has returned for Bubble, but Valerian and Laureline are on the clock and won't let him have his way. Valerian masters his blaster. Laureline makes it raaaaiiiin, baby. Bubble turns to love in a hopeless place.
The investigation continues into Point Central's red light district. Nobody asked what a red light district would be like on an alien space colony, but we answered the question extensively. Bubble aces a job interview. Laureline catches the red eye. Valerian is sorry, you seem nice, but he kindof hates your face.
An attack on the Council of Many sends the squad on a new investigation. Bubble gets slimed. Valerian wears an entirely new kind of pants. Laureline gives the greatest speech never heard.
We burn our first "All Words are Made Up" charge! Only two left! Valerian gets a little upsetty spaghetti. Laureline studies vexillology. Bubble plays it safe.
The crew can finally take a moment to mourn their merchandise and vape in the ionization room. But, the break is short, because Valerian and Laureline's boss, Representative Mau, is on the horn and she wants tough answers to hard questions. Bubble hears a sad story. Laureline lies. Valerian technically doesn't tell any lies.
Weapons aren't much use against Igon's terrible and wily pet Caypins, So the trio must turn to Big Market itself for solutions. Valerian is suspicious of Bubble. Laureline perceives everything, everywhere, all the time. Bubble takes more than just a penny.
The black market auction transforms from a bidding war to more of a literal war. Valerian shoots an Earth culture enthusiast. Laureline aims for precious alien jewels. Bubble turns the table.
In the first episode of our remake of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, the eponymous Valerian and his partner/buddy/something more??? Laureline go to the transdimensional desert-sized shopping mall Big Market to find the fabled Mul Converter, a creature that can replicate whatever it eats a thousand-fold. Valerian has a gift for wetwork and Laureline has all the nuts and bolts covered, but they could really use a third person. Maybe someone with a little charisma?
We're finally remaking the movie that inspired Roleplay Retcon: The 2017 Luc Besson film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, intended to be the spiritual successor to The Fifth Element that crash-landed so, so short. In this episode, you'll hear why we think this movie is ripe for remake and get a crash course in Starfinder, the RPG that will power our version of the movie!
Chuck Fuster has the device he needs to save Nil, but Danica Flareng is growing attached to Earth and will do what it takes to stop their colleague. Also in this episode: A fun, all-new way to eat pretzels!
We're remaking the 2008 Eddie Murphy vehicle (literally), Meet Dave! Chuck Fuster and Danica Flareng, two tiny space aliens from the planet Nil, compete for control of the giant (to them) spaceship "Dave," which looks like an Earthling... as long as it's piloted right. |
This after party is no shafter farty (sorry)! We talk about how we (and you!) think our version of Pixels compares to the original, what we'd do differently the second time around, and some casting for our major characters!
ANA's system is falling apart. What awaits the trio inside TechTite? Kris Makes some Mischief. Frank's email gets hacked. Hank finds home.
TechTite is finally open for business again... What does ANA have in store? And where is Gena? Kris Makes some Mischief. Frank's email gets hacked. Hank finds home.
The trio zaps and zooms their way through not one, but TWO battle royales, one on foot and one on wheels! Kris gets a new mission from a surprising source, Frank tells a robot an uncomfortable truth, and Hank finds a horse of a different color.
This episode is one twisty reveal after another! With the sun setting and their tummies rumbling, the trio seek out a place to rest, where they find something so strange even Dongle is surprised. Hank boxes shadows. Kris tells a secret. Frank lays it all on the line.
In this special stand-alone episode, we combine our knowledge of the literally hundreds of Hallmark Christmas Movies with the power of Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey to create our own Hallmark Holiday Heartstring Hefter. "Reindeer Over Me." Will holiday-hater Darby find what she's looking for in her hometown, where it's always Christmas? Will she find new love with her old flame Handso, or commit to her longtime beau Hellinore(sp?). Discover the Heart of a Holiday in "Reindeer Over Me" by Roleplay Retcon Studios.
Sonic and Team work to defeat the second half of the Classic Console challenge, which includes a brawl with fighting game royalty, a 3D platforming race, and a boss battle against the most terrifying face in video games. Frank repeats his past. Kris does a 360 Varial McTwist. Hank chills out.
The Arcade trial is behind the mismatched protagonists and they're ready for their next one: A roulette of '90s console challenges that starts with a boss battle and unexpected guests. |
The games begin! Kris and Frank discover a way to rescue Gina and meet the amnesiac (but athletic) Hank and the mysteries inside his bag. Frank gets to relive some of his glory days. |
It's Kris Frehley's birthday! Their adorable 8-year-old daughter, Gina, wants to celebrate all day by going to work with them at Tek-Tite, the huge tech corporation currently developing an AI that can construct almost anything from "Pixels," a new universal building block. Meanwhile, Kris's estranged father and former arcade champ Frank is in New York City to see Kris for the first time in years and hopefully patch up their almost non-existent relationship.
Hope nothing weird happens! |

The ka-tet is a man down and a woman up. They make the decision to press on with their new mission and ambush Jonas and his men, whom they assume is lying in wait for them at the mayor's mansion.|
The shootout continues against the agents of the insurrectionist John Farson, a.k.a. "The Good Man." Roland is reminded of his hawk friend David's sacrifice on his path to being a Gunslinger. |
The party stretches into its third episode-- no, just kidding, there's guns in this one. |
Dinner's kindof a downer, and even Cuthbert's constant flirting can't raise Mayor Thorin's wife Olive's spirits. Meanwhile, Roland has his fated "first meeting" with Susan Delgado.

The boys arrive for Mayor Thorin's party, but they're not there to have fun (except Cuthbert and his new pal Seamus, obviously). There's intrigue, innuendo, and ew, is that fish? That is going RIGHT on the floor.
The boys get settled in and find the local watering hole, where they test the patience of suspicious Sheb and meet sweet, perfect angel Seamus.
The ka-tet begins to wonder if their movie is directed by David Lynch as they meet the odd authority figures of Hambry. Between that and the supernatural "thinny" in the canyon outside of town, the boys are beginning to suspect there may be more to the sleepy town than it seems.
Roland, the youngest Gunslinger of all time, sets out on a tedious mission to get him out of harm's way. Accompanied by his friends and Gunslinger trainees, Cuthbert and Alain, he makes his way toward Hambry, a tiny, quiet settlement in the middle of nowhere, far from their home in Gilead. But, Ka blows at Roland's back, and things never stay tedious around him for long... We swear this bean stuff comes up organically. It is never planned.
The 2017 film adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower has forgotten the face of its father, so we must make things right. Because Ka wills it. In this episode, we talk about just how we intend to do that, as well as introduce our guest star for this series, Rev Deschain of the Critshow, and learn the Cowboy World RPG system!
In the world of Bad Movies, nobody can touch Paul Verhoeven's and Joe Eszterhas's Showgirls. Because they're not allowed to. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/roleplayretcon/messageIt's wrap party time for Dungeons & Dragons! The champagne is dwindling, the guests are trickling out, and we sit in our mansion's drawing room to while away the evening asking our favorite questions: What did we think of the 2000 Dungeons & Dragons movie? Did we succeed in improving it? Does this mansion have any secret tunnels?
Ridley, Mervin, and Elwin have their final showdowns with Damodar and Profion. Be sure to submit your ideas for how to improve the original Dungeons & Dragons movie and we'll read them for our Roleplay Rehash episode!
Ridley, Mervin, and Elwin grieve for their friend and, hey, was that Druid on Dr. Who? Tom Baker helps the party finally pinpoint the location of the Rod of Sevrille.
Elwyn, Ridley, and Snails mount a daring and extremely lucky rescue mission inside Damodar's fortress. They must sneak past the Spectators, Beholders' smaller and dumber cousins, which are really gross in person.
Exhausted by their ordeal in the dungeon and once again cornered by Damodar, one party member makes a difficult choice to help their friends. The rest of the party meets their shadow.
Ridley, Elwin, and Mervin face their final, deadliest challenge in the Antius City Thieves' Guild maze.
Does anyone remember life before this dungeon? Since they live here, now, the trio decides to poke around the dungeon and see what they didn't see before.
They got past the fighty room, now it's time for the magic spelly room and the jumpy room, both of which go smoothly without any dramatic incident.
Ridley, Elwin, and Mervin descend into the Antius City Thieves' Guild Maze (ACTGM) sans Snails to begin their search for the Dragon's Eye. Mervin comes prepared to cheat the maze with magic, only to find that it's less "labyrinth" and more "Labyrinth (1986)," although this one doesn't have David Bowie and wants to kill them real bad.
The Gang arrive in Antius City to search for the unsurprisingly elusive Thieves' Guild and its... colorful leader, Xilus. But, how will they find people that don't want to be found? Will Elwin find the spicy life she craves? Will Mervin be able to change into un-sewered robes, finally? Will Ridley make yet another new friend? Yes, No, and Maybe, but you have to guess which!
The man in the back says "everyone attack!" and it turns into a bar room blitz! The flimsy twine of fate has bound Mervin, Elwin, Ridley, and Snails together so far; will it snap when swords are drawn and spells are slung?
Mervin grapples with grief as he escapes through the tunnels beneath the city with Ridley, Elwin, and Snails. Why did Vildin think this scroll was so important? Is there any way to read its magically encrypted contents?
Yass, henny! The inaugural episode of our remake of the 2000 Dungeons & Dragons movie covers about the first 17 minutes of the original film, so we might want to pick up the pace after this one. Still, there's a lot in that 17 minutes: Heists, ever-morphing British accents, the eponymous dragons, betrayal, treasure, murder, mayhem, and mage hand!
We're going full meta by remaking the 2000 Courtney Solomon Dungeons & Dragons movie using, shockingly, Dungeons & Dragons 5E. This series is a little different than our others, in that... well, you'll have to listen, because it's a little wild.
