We're doing the unthinkable. We're saying goodbye to our beloved podcast. Our baby and the whole reason we started our business. But that's not the end of our podcasting endeavors. We grew out f our podcast the same way our toddler grew out of her baby shoes. 😢. Check out CONTENT JEFE hereWe realized that our thing is not only podcasting. We're full-time content creators and business owners. Also, our skill set has expanded beyond podcasting. We also realize that our audience, students, and our community of podskis are looking for help to reach their next level. Like us, many of our podkis turned their podcast into a business. Whatever their next level means for them. It can be introducing video in their content production, creating content that helps them generate leads and sales for their business, or how to be in the new emerging social media platforms and features. We want to help with what we know. But like I said, this is just the end of a chapter in our lives and the beginning of a new one. We say goodbye to Pod Sound School Podcast and welcome Content Jefe Podcast by the Pod Sound School. Content Jefe is a podcast where we'll share our best skills and tips to have you create content like a jefe (boss). We're always trying new things and testing the boundaries of our creativity so that Content Jefe will have a lot of storytelling and behind the scenes of what we do as a married couple with three kids, content creators, and business owners. We'll archive the Pod Sound School episodes as Season One for you to binge on the great content we've put out over the years. We're so freaking excited about our new podcast. I hope you're too. To all of our podskis and content jefes ❤️

Are you feeling uninspired to create lately? Don't beat yourself up. It happens to all of us creators at some point. When we start creating our content, we're filled with fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and the energy to create. Somewhere along the way, we start losing our drive and get disconnected from our WHY. We have experienced that too. In this episode, Veronica shares with you the Sisqo Thong test. A simple question that will diagnose whether you're going through a creative rut or are about to have one. Veronica also shares with you three simple steps to go back to feeling excited about creating again. _______________________________________________________Check out Veronica's Podcast and Video Setup in her home office. https://youtu.be/c6k0LdRO7HwSay hi on Social 🤗

This is PART ONE of a THREE PART series we’re doing on Building a Podcast Brand.
Watch the shortened YouTube version of this series HERE!
So what is a brand?
It’s not just your identity and how people tell you apart from other podcasts and content. It’s not just your colors, fonts, and logos. It’s how you make people feel.
Check out this sweet article by Tracy Lloyd the defines what a brand is.
So why should I care?
Having a strong brand facilitates:
-Increased discoverability and SEO
-Strengthened connections through brand associations
-Accelerated growth
-A deepened and more visceral experience for you audience
The FIRST Key Strategy to Build a Podcast Brand and the theme of this episode is:
GET VISUAL
Getting visual is a must for building a strong brand. You’ll want to be intentional about your use of colors:
Check out this awesome article on 99 Designs all about color:
Color meanings and the art of using color symbolism, by Anna Lundberg
Here are some ideas on incorporating graphics and video:
I don’t want to show my face!
-Audiograms
-Animated stock photos and video
-Canva designs
-Intriguing text, questions, or polls, quotes from episodes
-Shareable tips or DIY hacks
I’m willing to try showing my face!
-Short format video
-Rells, tik tok, YT shorts, FB Reels
-Live video
-Long format video
-YT videos, IGTV, Facebook
Remember to try and tie in your brand into videos and images by incorporating some of these elements into your graphics, photos, and videos:
-Logos, colors, images, outfits, props, backdrops
It’s amazing what strong colorful graphics, text, and shapes, complementing your podcast and your video can do to listeners. Especially as they see these shapes and colors over time. You become imprinted into their mind. Like a catchy melody, you get stuck in their head.
YOUR HOMEWORK
1- Define your core values and mission, see if you can choose a few words, and then assign colors to those words
2- Research and survey color meanings
4- Share your brand with usSound Design and Editing was done by:https://dzquintero.com/

We all struggle with converting our social media followers into listeners for our show.
With only so many hours in the day, and with wearing SO MANY HATS as podcasters, let's take some time to evaluate how we are spending our time podcasting.
Studio Steve flies solo on this one, un-showered, non-shaven, and maybe even a bit off the rails. But thankfully more than manages to provide a ton of great insight and inspiration for you.

Publishing audiograms or still images of your podcast episodes on YouTube is not going to help you grow on YouTube. YouTube is a video platform and therefore favors video.
Also, YouTube audiences are different from your podcast audience. We want you to leverage YouTube's robust algorithm to help you grow your audience.
You're already recording audio so let's spice things up by adding video to the mix. In this video, we'll share our strategy on how to record YouTube videos while recording podcast episodes maximizing your recording time and turning you into a repurposing wizard.
What you'll learn in this episode:
1. Set up: Additional equipment you'll need to record video. Don't worry we consider all the budgets. We talk about cameras, lighting, background, and video editing software we recommend.
2. How to record separate intros and outros for your podcast and video. We share with you the PSS formula for engagement and audience retention.
3. Recording tips: Confidence, exercises before playing record, and one of our favorite tricks to use when shooting videos.

We're all about conducting experiments for our podskis and we are constantly being asked about Smartphone podcasting.
Two questions that we get asked all the time are:
Can I record a podcast with 2 phones or 2 people?
Can I transfer the files from my phone to my computer?
In this episode, we put ourselves through the test and record an episode using our phones. When we finished with the episode, Studio Steve dragged the files from our phones into Reaper to make some basic edits.
As usual, we were impressed with the results.
We also recorded ourselves and explained in detail how we did it, on our YouTube channel.
Let us know what struggles or questions you have with podcasting. We love to help our podskis improve their shows and who knows, we may conduct an experiment for you.
Happy Casting.

Weeks go by, months or years pass, the episodes pile up, and it can be easy to slip into a slump or even to pod fade and stop podcasting altogether.
There are so many times throughout our podcasting journey where our why and our motivation are tested.
We wonder if it’s worth the time and effort. We wonder if our audience will ever grow. We wonder if we’ll ever make money from our podcast.
These feelings are not only normal, but they can actually be helpful and beneficial for our growth.
So let's talk about that hamster wheel, the podcast treadmill.
Let’s talk about what we think the most important element of your podcast should be and that's: FUN.
Okay so, I know you’re thinking, oh come on, it can’t ALWAYS be fun, or really editing for 3 hours a week is fun to you!
But really, if you analyze each step in your podcast creation process and re-engineer the steps that aren’t very enjoyable into FUN steps that you look forward to: Not only will you enjoy your life a lot more, but you’ll also really start to see podcast growth and the results that you’re after.
So on this quick episode, we thought we’d share 3 ideas we have about spicing up your podcast life, and re-evaluating or incorporating new ideas into your workflow.
1. Take it on the go. Be Journalistic.
2.Introduce segments:
3. Take a break and re-launch.

As a content creator and business owner, I’ve been asking myself what is the best way to show up on social media for our communities right now.
Should I mention how distraught I am due to the amount of suffering and loss our world is experiencing?
Is my audience interested in listening to my messages of hope or how I woke up feeling the pain of the world this morning?
Do they need me to be uplifting and matter of fact?

Taking the time to do market research has numerous benefits, among those are:
If done well, the results of your research can reveal a lot of valuable information such as:
All this information will help you not only with creating and planning content but also with developing a strong brand strategy for your podcast.
By learning your ideal listener’s social media platform of choice, you can narrow down your social media promotion, saving you time and giving you the most results. Instead of wasting time promoting in places where your audience is not hanging out at.
A lot has happened since our last PodBitz. Schools are cancelled and we have kids at home demanding our attention.
Focus on service. When we turn our attention from the negative things that are happening to the ways we can help others we feel less helpless and more in control. So, this is my call for you. Your skills, experiences, knowledge, entertainment is needed. Don’t stop producing your shows. And if you’ve been thinking about starting a podcast this is the time.
For those of you sharing information about the COVID 19 be responsible with the way you share this information. Make sure you use reputable sources like the CDC. Always check your sources and stick to the facts. Also try to be the positive force, the light in the darkness instead of feeding into the fear and chaos.
Talking about ways we can help, this last weekend we put together a workshop on how to start a podcast on a budget. It’s an hour and half workshop and it’s free. In that workshop we teach you everything from how to find a topic to how to record and launch. The workshop is on our YouTube channel.

Did you watch the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards? or have you been living under a rock with Veronica and don’t know about iHeartRadio 😂? Either way we discussed the different awards and awards winners also and Veronica makes a petition to include categories for indi podcasters. Let’s see how that goes. Also, CNN is planning the release of their new podcasts. We can only imagine the interesting content and quality. Finally, if you are still lingering with the question whether Spotify is getting stronger than Apple Podcast, Chartable has a great article about it and we discuss it a little bit.

Many people don’t know about the page that Apple has put together about marketing, although it’s pretty general stuff it can be really helpful to read through, especially if you want Apple to FEATURE you. In the article there are many tips about raising your chances. Find the article at Podcaster.Apple.com.
In addition to that, when it comes to being featured, many people don’t know that you can reach out to Apple and ask them to feature you. But very recently Apple has changed the way to reach out to the editorial department and they have put together an Apple Podcasts Promotion Request form. The link to this form isn’t a public link. This article talks about the popularity and the need for Facebook Groups for podcasts
Facebook groups for podcasts like Crime Junkie and Shameless have tens of thousands of members
We all know that podcasting can be very lonely. We are recording in our studios with not much interaction with the outside world. Also, podcasts are consumed in isolation and there is not a comment section for interactions among listeners. This is why Facebook groups have gained popularity among podcasts listeners.
Have you created Facebook group for your podcast yet?

Hi Podskis! It’s me, Veronica. We’re back. How were your holidays? It’s so great to be back. I don’t know about you but I’ve got a great feeling about 2020.
I wanted to jump on real quick and clue you in to what we have in store for you with Season 3.
For Season 3 we’re focusing on TAKING IT UP A NOTCH! We going to help our pod skis take their podcasts to the next level. We’ll focus on finding and nourishing your tribe, improving your content, time management and workflow, making money from your podcast, and much more.
And if you are brand new to podcasting or haven’t started your podcast yet, Season 3 will still be a great season for you, and you can always catch up on our past episodes. There are about 50 episodes packed full of useful tips for the beginner, so go binge on those.
And in the spirit of taking things up a notch, that’s we we’re going to try to do with Season three. First off we have created a Weekly Bonus episode that we are introducing called PodBitz. These are going to be short episodes that keep you up to date on what’s happening in the podcasting world, give you quick actionable tips for the week, and we’ll also share our weekly podcast suggestions for you to add to your cue.
We have prerecorded a template with a background track that guides us through, this radio-show type format. Which means we’ll be unedited and raw.
We will be recording PodBitz LIVE every Wednesday on Twitter, so come join us on twitter @podsoundschool. After the 13 minute episode, we’ll be hanging out for a bit LIVE on Twitter to respond to comments or questions.
In addition to PodBitz, we have also reached out to some amazing experts to guest on the show.
We’re going to continue to experiment with our episodes and find ways to continually make the educational content fun and useful for you.
Another change we are making for Season 3 is that our regular full length podcast episodes are now going to be release on a by-weekly schedule.
But don’t worry, if you are determined to stay in the know, and continue building your podcast enterprise, we will have premium episodes available to our Patrons that you can find at www.podsoundschool.com/supportus.
With a small monthly membership, you’ll get your own private link to our premium content, those episodes will be biweekly as well on the off weeks of our podcast.
And that’s it pod skis, so enjoy the first episode of PodBitz. And tune in every other Friday for some amped up Pod Sound School episodes.

We’re having a contest! Which host do you like more: Veronica or Studio Steve?? Let us know by buying your favorite host a coffee!CLICK HERE to BUY US A COFFEEJOING OUR COMMUNITY AT PODCASTING FOR BOSSESIf you remember on our last episode, we talked about the importance of including video as part of your podcast marketing strategy. We talked about on demand videos and live videos. On this episode we talk about ways that you can create and publish your videos, so they’ll attract more listeners. First: Video Content (I don’t know what to say in front of the camera) Video content Make sure you spark curiosity posting a question or telling a story; Tell your audience how these questions will be answered in the podcast episode;Keep it short, always add CTA, add subtitles, and stick to a single message. One story, one emotional impact, and one take away;Include one CTA- Access podcast episode here. Subscribe. Leave a comment; It’s okay to write it all out at the beginning and read script from a teleprompter. Second: Set the StageSetting the stage to record your videos requires you to pay attention to three things: light, noise, and background set up. Light. Make sure you use a space where there is a lot of light. Also invest in good lighting. Noise. Pay attention to the noise in the area you’re recording your videos. Noise doesn’t only affect the quality of the video but can also be a distractor and a stressor for you. Background. This is a very important thing to consider. Everything that goes into your video adds to the viewers experience. You, the way you deliver the message, and also the background of your video. Make sure that your background is bright or in a light color. Third: Video Equipment You don’t have to start by using professional video equipment. You can simply start by using your smartphone and then as you progress and want to continue to improve your video production you can work your way through these 4 steps. Step OneJust your phone. Most smartphones have very decent cameras and convenient features. The microphones on smartphones actually aren’t too shabby either. Step Two Beefing up the audio with accessories. To give your videos an extra punch and make them stand out more you’ll want to start improving the audio on the video. There are many ways to do this by adding some accessories to your phone. iRig is a popular company that offers many solutions. They have many microphone choices and adapters that plug into your phone directly. Step ThreeImprove audio even more by recording it separately and syncing it up later in your video editing software. Make sure your audio and video are both in record and then say something like “promo video take 3” and clap. Now your video clip and your audio recording are both easily identifiable and can be synced together in any video editing software. Step FourUpgrade to a better camera. You may never need to get to this step. This however can really help the professional look of your videos and is especially a consideration if you are planning on growing a YouTube Channel. Fourth: Technique, confidence, deliverance, and tone. ConfidenceThis goes for men and women. Make sure that before you get in front of the camera you’re feeling and looking your best. Get ready as if you were going on a date with someone you care about. Do your make up, fix you hair, wear your favorite outfit. Do anything you need to so you can get an extra confident boost. And in fact, this is a date with people you do care about, YOUR AUDIENCE. Confidence also comes from your message. Whether you’ve been podcasting
Like we haven’t put you through enough by making you learn about editing, pushing you to get over your fear of speaking into a microphone, turning you into a social media ninja, and completely changing the way you see your show (high quality - growth mindset), we will turn you into a video diva in no time after convincing you that video should be part of your promotional campaigns. #whateverittakes.

Number One: Why you should include video marketing in your podcast promotion?!
Increases engagement and it gives more exposure.
Here are some statistics and updates about video marketing in 2019:
The major social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Snapchat, and TikTok favor video.
YouTube users upload 500 hours of video every minute worldwide.
55% of internet users watch videos online every day (Source: video-marketing-statistics-2017.html">Digital Information World).
Videos shared on social media generate 12 times more shares and comments than text and images combined (Source: marketing-statistics.html">SmallBizTrends).
85% of Facebook videos are watched without sound.
Top three most effective types of video content: Customer testimonials (51%); Tutorial videos (50%); Demonstration videos (49%) (Source: Curata).
Instagram also offers video on demand through IG tv. Instagram latest addition to IG tv is IG tv series. IG tv series allow users to organize their videos in playlists.
Earlier this year Facebook changed its algorithm prioritizing video directly uploaded to Facebook instead of link-sharing. https://about.fb.com/news/2019/05/updates-to-video-ranking/. Facebook is favoring original content created in the form of video. Twitter also favors users creating live videos using its live video streaming periscope.
Number two: Live Streaming Videos. Why you should be recording your podcast live?
Live streaming videos take priority in social media feeds. Every time you go live using Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, your followers are immediately notified so they can be an active part of the live streaming video.
Live videos take priority over VOD (videos on demand) because they are featured at the top of users’ feed or homepage with a live notification icon.
Number three: Video on Demand (VOD) . Why you should consider recording videos on demand?
Videos on demand are prerecorded videos that are uploaded to a system and are available to watch at the viewer’s convenience.
These videos fall into three categories: awareness, engagement, and education (depending on your show).
What are your goals for podcast?
The last two episodes we talked to you about the benefits of having a podcast and gave you a roadmap with 11 steps of how to start a podcast. What we have not talked to you about yet is the importance of having clear goals and expectations before you enter the podcasting world and the world of content creation.
Having clear goals will help you determine how much money, time, and effort you will have to dedicate to your project. Also, having clear and realistic expectations for your show will avoid you getting into disappointment territory and also to enjoy and celebrate your successes.
According to whatpods.com it is estimated that over 40% of podcast hosts don’t make it past 10 episodes. This is a concern to us because we want you to succeed and experience the real rewards and benefits of podcasting.
So far we have given you the practical and technical tools you need to have a successful show: show planning, production, content ideas, promotion and launching strategies.
But today we’re going to talk about the mindset and the emotional journey you have to prepare for when entering podcasting.
It is my hope that at the end of this episode you are clear with your goals and are ready to take action. With that being said, your podcast goals may change, evolve, and grow as you progress in your podcasting journey.
Number One: Your goals will determine how much time you will put into growing your show
Podcasting takes a lot of time
How long do you plan on being a podcaster?
Are you in it for the long haul?
your time is valuable
you can save time by spending money- which transitions to:
Number two: your goals will determine how much money you will have to invest
The first place you’ll spend money is on gear
Microphone, Interface, DAW, plugins, pop filters, mic stands, cables, headphones, and room treatment.
Then there’s memberships and subscriptions
website
web host
email marketing service
Canva Pro
Adobe Creative Cloud
Remote Recording Solution
You may also want to invest in some minor video equipment for social, youtube, Patreon videos, etc.
Camera
Our smartphones are a acceptable place to start
Lighting
LED Ring Light
Soft-box
Then, like we mentioned with saving time, is OUTSOURCING
hire an editor
hire social media support
Number three: your goals will determine how much effort you will have to put on your show
Education
Preparation and Planning
Research
Dedication
Perseverance
Number four: Your goals will determine how much you will be willing to grow professionally and personally
You can see now, that the more we evaluate the time, money, and effort involved in having a successful podcast, why so many of us don’t make it past the 10th episode.
It is not our intention to try to discourage you. We are trying to ENCOURAGE you to take yourself seriously and set BIG GOALS.
Also as these things become a reality, people in your life will very likely discourage you. They’ll tell you that you’ll never make money podcasting and that you don’t have the time or the money it takes to start it and keep it going.
The people in our lives don’t do this because they don’t care about us, it’s quite the opposite. As humans we are all filled with insecurities. They likely couldn’t imagine themselves being venerable for the world to hear and to judge and they want to protect us.
There’s a reason you’re interested in podcasting. There’s a reason you’re listening to this

Let’s get some clarity on Compressors and Limiters. Let’s learn how we can use them properly on our podcast mixes.
Compression and Limiting are similar, only the settings are different. The Ratio and the Threshold will differ. On a vocal compression a common ratio is 3:1 (3 to 1), on a stereo limiter a common ratio is 20:1 (20 to 1). On a vocal compression the threshold will be set lower on the volume spectrum, whereas the threshold on a limiter will often be set right at the top of the volume spectrum.

How long does it take to make a podcast episode every week???
We were asked this question by a podski who is on the fence about starting her own, one-woman, podcast.
The time it takes is one of 3 common deterrents people have: The time, the cost, the learning curve.
Since there is a huge range of possible answers, we enlisted the help of other podcasters via Instagram and Twitter. We put together some polls and got 93 votes and a tons of comments.
Here’s just a small list of Podcasters that contributed, voted, and commented.
THANKS EVERYONE for helping out!!!
