Some wins feel like more than simply three points and that was the case as City beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Against a side fighting for their lives and much improved after a change of manager, City managed to beat Everton with a single goal, scored by Phil Foden with just nine minutes of normal time reaming. It felt like a hugely significant day. With defeat last time out against Tottenham reducing our lead at the top of the Premier League table to three points, victory on Merseyside felt vital. Everton made it incredibly hard for us, but we showed real fighting quality and deserved the win. There’s no doubt about it: the final three months of the season are going to be tense, every game now of huge significance in both league and cup competitions. After the game, we heard from Pep Guardiola, Phil Foden and John Stones – and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Shaun Wright-Phillips and Shaun Goater

City’s winning run in the Premier League has come to an end after a 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday. It means we are now 12 points clear at the top of the table – but Liverpool have two games in hand to reduce the deficit.
Kyle Walker-Peters gave Saints the lead, but Aymeric Laporte’s header ensured we left with a point.
It was a landmark day, with Pep Guardiola becoming the quickest manager to reach 500 Premier League points. He has reached the milestone in just 213 games.
For context, the previous quickest to 500 was Jose Mourinho, who managed the feat in 231 games.
It’s an incredible statistic that further underlines his brilliance as a manager and City’s consistency under his guidance.
After the game we heard from Pep and goal scorer Aymeric Laporte – and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Paul Dickov and Nedum Onuoha.

Manchester City are 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table after a fine win over Chelsea.
Kevin De Bruyne, who was brilliant throughout, scored the winner, a superb curling effort that gave Kepa no chance.
It was another solid display, with City restricting Chelsea to a single shot on target.
Liverpool could leapfrog Chelsea into second place and close the gap to 11 points when they host Brentford on Sunday. That one kicks off at 14:00 (UK).
Pep Guardiola has now amassed 499 Premier League points as City manager and Ederson has kept a clean sheet in exactly half the games he’s played in the competition making him the only goalkeeper with 100+ appearances to do so.
After the game, we heard from Pep Guardiola and Kevin De Bruyne – and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Shaun Goater and David James.

City are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table after our 1-0 win over Brentford made it 10 wins in a row. Our victory over Thomas Frank’s side means we end the year on a high, and with Liverpool’s defeat at Leicester on Tuesday and Chelsea’s draw with Brighton on Wednesday, we now have a healthy lead as we head into 2022.
Phil Foden scored the only game of the game. City weren’t in premium form, but we got the job done against a tricky opponent.
It’s been a quite remarkable 2021. We have won 36 league games – the most any top-flight side in England has ever managed – including a record 19 away wins. We’ve also scored 113 league goals, the most by a top-flight team in a single calendar year since 1960.
We are witnessing greatness. And that doesn’t mean we will definitely win the league this season. Liverpool and Chelsea are fantastic opponents and there are 54 points still to play for – 57 if you’re Liverpool. But we are witnessing an incredible period in our club’s history. Our consistency is unrivalled, the quality of football mesmeric.
After the game we heard from Guardiola and Foden – and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Joleon Lescott and Shaun Goater.

There have been some special nights at the Etihad Stadium and Wednesday was right up there.
Two of the best teams in world football going head-to-head and it was City who came out on top, beating PSG 2-1. It was a richly deserved victory.
The win means we top the group. It’s the fifth straight season we have done so and the ninth season on the bounce we’ve qualified for the last 16.
The stats show we out-passed and outran PSG – and we were certainly more organised and inventive. It was a fantastic performance.
After the game we heard from Pep Guardiola and Oleksandr Zinchenko – and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Nedum Onuoha and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Manchester United 0-2 Manchester City – the 186th Manchester derby as one of the most one-sided in history.
It was an almost flawless performance from City on Saturday. Total domination from start to finish at Old Trafford, with an Eric Bailly own goal setting us on our way, before Bernardo Silva finished off a 26-pass move. Having played Tottenham, Leicester, Chelsea, Liverpool and now Manchester United away from home, we are tucked in nicely, three points off the leaders heading into the November international break.
Special mention for Rodri, who was outstanding in the holding role at Old Trafford, and Bernardo Silva, whose dream season continues apace.
After the game, we heard from Pep Guardiola and Ilkay Gundogan, and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Joleon Lescott and David James.

This week, we are joined by Sven Goran-Eriksson - one of football’s preeminent figures in the 90s and 2000s. As manager of Manchester City in the 2007-08 season, he drastically improved our playing style, brought in some quality players and was a wonderful statesman who represented the club with dignity.
Gothenburg, Benfica, Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Lazio, England, Manchester City, Mexico, Notts County, Ivory Coast, Leicester City and more… Sven has one of the most storied careers in the game.
His incredible success at Gothenburg, where he took part-time players to a European trophy, catapulted him into some of the biggest jobs in world football. His most successful periods came at Benfica and Lazio - in fact his Lazio side was one of the greatest club sides we’ve ever seen.
He’s a huge character in the game.
This interview forms part of a larger project. CITY+ subscribers can watch a full documentary about Sven’s year in charge right now, which includes contributions from Nedum Onuoha and Elano, amongst others.

City delivered a wonderful display in Belgium on Tuesday, beating Club Brugge 5-1 - equalling our biggest winning margin in the Champions League proper.
It was a near-perfect display. City, led by the genius of Phil Foden, were sharp, inventive and creative. Brugge struggled to get the ball off us and we are now in a very strong position to qualify from Group A.
Both full-backs scored – has that happened for City before? – Mahrez got two and Cole Palmer’s dream week continued when he became only the third teenager to score in the Champions League for City (the others being Foden and Kelechi Iheanacho).
Palmer came off the bench for the first team in Saturday’s win over Burnley in the Premier League, before hot footing it over to the Academy Stadium where he scored a hat-trick in our Premier League 2 game against Leicester – and now he has a goal in Europe’s elite club competition. He is a star in the making and this is a week he will never forget.
After the game, we heard from scorer of the opening goal Joao Cancelo, as well as the mastermind of it all Pep Guardiola – and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Andy Morrison and Richard Dunne.

On today’s episode of the Man City Podcast, we are looking back over City’s 2-0 win over Burnley at the Etihad.
Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne scored the goals to seal a hard-fought victory. City now have 17 points from our first eight Premier League games and sit third in the table. Given the tough away games we have already negotiated, Pep Guardiola will be quite pleased with that.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Manchester United were dismantled by Leicester, Liverpool were sensational in their 5-0 win away at a lacklustre Watford, and Chelsea won 1-0 at Brentford, a ground where plenty of good sides will struggle this season.
City are now third in the table, a point behind Liverpool and two adrift of Chelsea.
After the game, we heard from the man of the match and our player of the season so far Bernardo Silva, as well as the manager Pep Guardiola.
And joining us in the matchday live studio were debutant Trevor Sinclair and club legend Shaun Goater.

Tuesday’s Champions League Group A game in Paris didn’t go to plan, with City suffering a 2-0 defeat to PSG. Idrissa Gueye fired the home side into the lead with a fine finish into the top corner, and Lionel Messi scored his first goal for PSG in the second half. But it was by no means one-way traffic. City created plenty and should have scored at least a couple of goals. The City players will be disappointed with the result, but there was plenty in our all-round performance to be pleased about.
It was a thoroughly entertaining game between two of the favourites to win the competition. This was City's first Champions League group defeat since September 2018, when we lost 2-1 to Lyon. That was a run of 18 games unbeaten. After the game, we heard from Pep Guardiola, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva – and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Nedum Onuoha and Paul Dickov.

On an incredible night of Champions League football that saw 20 goals scored across six fixtures, City were involved in a nine-goal thriller.
Nathan Ake and Jack Grealish both scored their maiden UCL goals, Riyad Mahrez scored the perfect penalty, Joao Cancelo produced a screamer and Gabriel Jesus continued his fine start to the new season.
Ten different players have scored in a City shirt in the past four games and we have now banged in 16 goals in our past three home matches.
It was Pep Guardiola’s 300th game in charge of City. He’s now won 219 of them, winning 10 trophies. Incredible stuff.
After the game we heard from Pep, Nathan and Jack - and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Shaun Wright-Phillips and Shaun Goater.

Our winning run is over! After 28 matches unbeaten and 21 wins in a row – we finally lost. Manchester United beat us 2-0 at the Etihad, cutting our lead at the top of the premier league table to 11 points with 10 games remaining. After the game we spoke to Pep Guardiola and Kevin De Bruyne – and in the we’re not really here studio were Joleon Lescott and David James.
And on this episode, Rob also catches up with Club journalist Neil Leigh, who this week wrote a fine piece about our 1976 League Cup winning squad. For those who haven't read it, the link is here. https://www.mancity.com/features/1976-revisted/

City have set a new English record of 10 consecutive top-flight league wins at the start of a year! Our 3-1 victory away at Everton means we move clear of Bolton Wanderers, who managed nine league wins in a row at the start of 1904, and Manchester United, who began 2009 with nine on the bounce. Our 10 straight Premier League successes in 2021 forms part of an even more impressive story. We are now 24 games unbeaten in all competitions, with our last defeat coming on November 21 away at Spurs. We've conceded just seven goals in that period. And it’s now a remarkable 17 wins in a row in all competitions!
And what's more, the win at Goodison Park moves us 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table after 24 matches. On this episode, we hear from Pep Guardiola, Ryad Mahrez, Andy Morrison and Michael Brown to get their thoughts on the victory.

In this episode of the Man City podcast, Rob is in conversation with Brian Horton, City manager between 1993-95.
With Peter Reid sacked after just four games of the 1993-94 season, chairman Peter Swales approached Oxford and asked for permission to speak to Brian. He was installed as manager days later, becoming the last managerial appointment of the Swales era.
But it was a turbulent period in the Club’s history, with City in a state of civil war as the Swales Out campaign gathered momentum. City’s chairman of 20 years was ousted in February 1994, just six months after Horton came in, replaced by former player Francis Lee.
Horton kept City in his first season, with the arrivals of Paul Walsh, Uwe Rosler and Peter Beagrie vital, and the following campaign started superbly, with City managing big wins over Everton, West Ham and, most famously, a brilliant Spurs side, playing a vibrant, attacking brand of football.
But that early promise subsided, giving way for a poor second half of the season, and Horton was sacked by Lee as the campaign came to an end.
Here, Rob and Brian discuss his time at City, his pursuit of Luis Figo and the bitter nature of his sacking in the summer of 1995.
