"Everyday is our environment Day". I'm truly blessed that one of the most inspiring mentors, Mrs Vani Murthy, more famously known as 'Worm Rani' agreed to be on my podcast on this 'World Environment Day'.

Vani Murthy ji has been living a 0 waste lifestyle for decades now. She literally  lives and inspires millions of people  to live a plastic free and earthly lifestyle. No wonder she has 289000 followers on Instagram.

My visit to her home helped me see practically, how she grows her own food, uses the remains to compost it and has a 100% no trash lifestyle. 

Each time I speak to her, it gives me great hope that this is the route and the best 'Solution to plastic Pollution'. This year's theme for 'World Environment Day'.

Some of my questions were around what she thinks of the current situation with regards to Plastic pollution. Does she really think there is a solution/ replacement for the numerous number of plastic things we use every single day? 

Children see, children do! If parents are using plastic unhindered, is there a chance for children to lead a path to plastic free living?

While sustainability and finance seem like two very diverse topics, a combination of the two, 'Sustainable Investing' is something I learnt in this very educative podcast episode, 

Dr. Mara Harvey, has been guiding and educating parents and children towards financial literacy with a focus on sustainability. She has published rhymed book for children on money, equality and sustainability.

Dr. Mara has emphasized on the importance of consumer choices and how powerful our choices are, in deciding how consumer companies contribute towards sustainability.

Human population is on the rise and we are consuming too many resources from our planet, not allowing enough time to replenish.

Its interesting to learn how uniquely she has developed rhymes so that kids can playfully learn and be aware of UNSDGs, just like their ABCs.

Dr Peter Fantke. Dr Peter is professor for quantitative sustainability assessment with focus on assessing life cycle fate, exposure, and effects of chemicals. 

He is the director of USEtox, the UNEP/SETAC scientific consensus model.

This model characterises chemical toxicity and ecotoxicity. It also coordinates global task forces on quantifying emissions of pesticides and addressing impacts from exposure to toxic chemicals and fine particulate matter. This episode proves that scientific community is backing up efforts from general public to help children stay away from toxic chemicals  that harm us.

What do we write with? Pens, pencils, What do we write in? books, papers...That's common sense.. According to one of Murphy’s laws, ‘Left to themselves, things tend to go from bad to worse’. 

I’m choosing not to leave the situation of plastics and toys to themselves. I did a plastic collection drive last week, as it was the last sunday of November. One kid gave up a kilo worth of his toys and 3 kids went on an epic fun evening collecting a whopping 9 kilos of household plastics and toys in their immediate neighbourhood.

Interestingly, Leo Tolstoy quotes that “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”

75th Independence Day for India, Its that time to share the exuberant feeling together.

50 Million tons of e-waste is generated globally every year. That is a weight greater than all of the commercial airlines weighed together!

As humanity, we do have the capability to recycle 99% of this back into being used. But our poor awareness and attitude ensures just 20% of this is recycled formally. 

Rest 80% is literally damaging our earth. Its dumped in landfills or pumped into unorganised sectors who engage unscientific methods to dismantle the e-waste, or even worse, end up in our water bodies. This is enormously harmful to our environment and our health.

Two sisters, Dhaanya and Reaha formed Mygreenmantra, in Hong kong, to do their bit and help reverse Climate Change. They do this by cleaning up the beaches with their little hands and campaigning outside of public spaces, getting people to pledge change in their lifestyle to help reverse the effects of Climate change.

The positive actions of many prominent environmentalists like David Attenborough, Greta Thunberg and Jane Goodall inspired these 2 little girls.

They plan to attend the COP26 summit in Glasgow this year.  

They explain why the voices of children are very important and why each and every one of us need to have the commitment towards changing our lifestyles. They aim at creating a fossil fuel free earth by the end of this decade.

Here’s my fortnightly news episode. I’ve come across some very interesting news on the internet. 

Ofcourse, we start with some news on Covid. Good part is about the Vaccination by oxford university.

We then hear a little about protests going in various parts of the world like the Thailand, Belarus and Hong kong.

In environment news, we could see how a map of all bee species in the world has been created to track the decline in bee population. There’s also the sad news about plastic in our oceans which is causing severe extinction of marine life.

We go on to hear how a bunch of students have come up with a brilliant solution to stop tyre pollution.

We hear to some space news on How China launches a mission to bring back some moon rock and sand just in time for  Christmas. Also a record breaking Space X Falcon 9 launch.

Finally, we wrap up with news about the deepest swimming pool in Poland. Also, a mysterious monolith found in Utah.

I hope you all had a good Halloween week. Today’s episode is exciting for 2 reasons…1st, it’s the first episode of my Season 3 and 2nd reason… its monthly competition results day!! Yoo hoo.

In today’s episode, we speak to the highly qualified Dr Uday Balakrishnan who was involved in pulling children out of Child labour. His initiative was the largest across the world during that time. 

He explains to us, why education is that important and why we need to constantly learn and re-learn many things. 

He does mention that our generation would be facing a lot more challenges in terms of the changing weather and global warming and so, education plays all the more important role for us. But yes, he did mention that we should have an all round education by means of playing, trekking, watching movies etc. 

I just loved what he said as it makes total sense to me and I Hope it will to you too…
