Submit ReviewAs we go along in our journey, especially as visionaries, we grow, we change, our thinking evolves. It can be liberating and scary and wonderful and nerve-racking, all at the same time. But it is inevitable. We don’t stay the same, and I would say this is good, as we shouldn’t stay the same in many regards.
In this episode, I talk about the visionary’s journey. About my journey. I share my thoughts, my heart, and how I’ve changed in the way I think about what I do as a result of my journey. If you’re a visionary, it’s likely you’re on your own journey. So I hope by sharing some of mine, I might offer you some insights and encouragement. Please come with me.
“That may mean that the business doesn’t have the same trajectory that it did under the visionary but that doesn’t make the trajectory bad.” – Kris Plachy
Visionaries are more than simply dreamers. Visionaries focus not only on what might be but how to make it into reality. They hold a deep belief that what they dream can–and will–happen. To me, this is a sense like smelling or hearing. But what happens if this asset you’ve always relied upon suddenly isn’t there?
Every visionary has times when she cannot see. And it’s disorienting. It’s stifling. It’s paralytic. It’s shameful. But don’t worry, it’s okay. You’re not broken. It’s not a character flaw. After all, vision is ether. Let’s talk about it.
“I think you don’t know because the answer doesn’t exist yet. And we have to trust that.” – Kris Plachy
There is a myth that authority and leadership looks and sounds a certain way. Traditionally, this has been the expected look and voice pattern of a white, well-educated male. And, as a society, we’ve insidiously allowed that strangely ingrained falsehood to remain and grow deep roots. But it’s completely false.
Leadership does not have a specific look nor sound. Rather, it has characteristics. First of all, authority does not automatically equal leadership. One can have authority but not really be a leader or one can have and be both. Secondly, leadership isn’t telling other people what to do. That is authority. Leadership is so much more. Let’s talk about these important distinctions.
“What if it isn’t authoritarian approach? ‘Do what I say’. What if it’s more, ‘Hey, I’m doing this thing… Do you wanna come?... What if your primary role was the nurturing of and development of the future that you imagine?” – Kris Plachy
As visionaries, it is vital we create and embrace the flexibility to be able to pivot within our businesses and our focuses. Even if and when things are going extremely well, there is always development we continue to need as women, both individually and as an overall group, plus as CEOs. Unfortunately, the fear of making changes–especially big ones–is where many leaders end up stuck.
The Kris Plachy Team has watched these truths unfold as we’ve worked with nearly countless female CEOs over many years. That’s why I am so very excited to have my team with me for this episode. Recently, I made the decision to change up a lot of what we do and they agreed to come on the podcast to talk about things they’ve both seen and experienced. Michelle, Crista and Chelsea opened up about topics like filling the vision hole, reconfiguring the picture, reassuring your team, embracing the spirit of possibility, and much more.
“I think all of us who run businesses… we have to have these moments where we’re willing to be in suspension, in the in-between. It’s where we get a lot of really good insight.” – Kris Plachy

Keeping a schedule may not come naturally to you. But developing the habit of holding specific hours gives you the boundaries and structure you need. Why? Not because you need to work more. But because you need to work less. Stick with me here…
Let’s be real, you don't need more “how to” courses or workbooks or whatever. You need time to sit with yourself, listen to yourself, talk about yourself, and come into the powerful place where you accept the reality that there can be so much more for you. I long to help you, to come alongside you, to hold that space for you. And it starts with setting appropriate office hours and honoring your priorities.
“Do you honor that vision that you had for yourself… that you wanted to be flexible, that you didn’t want to work 40, 50, 80 hours a week. That you weren’t going to create a job for yourself. Have you created a job that you’re trapped in?... A business that you’re trapped in?” – Kris Plachy

Sometimes you just need to be reassured: You are incredibly important, you are amazing, you are worthwhile. But I know you question from time to time. And you permit things in your life that aren't in your best interest. That's why I’m here to remind you of the truth of your worth.
As I’ve spoken into the lives of women over many years, I’ve always advocated strongly for them to value themselves more highly and to have agency in their lives. I want to help guide you into a place of vulnerability – not to other people, but within yourself. To explore and work through those spaces in your life where you know you’re working against yourself but don’t know how to stop. If this resonates within, this episode is my love letter to you.
“That little dark corner becomes a corner you use to define who you are in the world. And that is a lie. You are incredible. You are capable.” – Kris Plachy

Growing in leadership involves asking yourself: Where did I learn those things that aren’t really right? Especially as women. For instance, where did we learn to basically shut off our prefrontal cortex when it comes to making decisions? Particularly when leadership is involved? And where did we ever get the idea that we just need more templates, more how-tos, more quick fixes?
There are so many successful, competent and confident women in leadership who have the capacity to stand in their decisions but they waver. Why? It’s not that they don’t know. They are aware they’re abdicating their authority. And that needs to stop. We all, as female leaders, need to move into conscious competence. We each need to become the woman who knows who she is. Let’s talk about this.
“Templates… will not resolve the emotional distress you have as a leader… The only thing that’s gonna resolve that is you upleveling the way that you think about yourself as the woman who leads your company.” – Kris Plachy

Season 6 Episode 13: Entrepreneurial Boredom
Apple Podcasts | Stitcher | Spotify | Google Podcasts
Feeling bored, unmotivated, even lazy in building our businesses is normal. We hit inflection points in which we need to make and implement decisions that will change the course of our business – and often ourselves. Some things may need only slightly tweaking, some need almost completely retooled, and some need to be retired altogether. This is the inevitable evolution of business.
When you find yourself at such an inflection point, it may also hit you that you’ve become a bit of a lone wolf during the building of your business. Things are going well, and you're successful, but the team you’ve built does most of the work now. And you, as the business owner, find yourself at loose ends… experiencing entrepreneurial boredom. You feel trapped and tied down to your business, where once you felt invigorated and free. So you wonder, is it time to change what I’m personally doing? Yes. Let’s talk about it.
“But these inflections, these moments where you feel incredibly dis-eased, very uncomfortable, in your own business, this is what we’ve got to pay attention to… Let’s figure out what’s going on here for you. ‘Cause you’re spinnin’.” – Kris Plachy
Season 6 Episode 11: LIVE PODCAST: How To CEO Your Business When It’s Time For Massive Change
As we go through life, we are given time to accomplish what we’re supposed to accomplish. Some get more time given to them than others. But every person’s fulfillment of what they were to do is valuable and special.
In this episode, I want to encourage you to look at what you are spending your time doing. Are you fulfilling your promise of a lifetime? Are you doing what you’re meant to do? Or are you dismissing what you’re capable of because you’re afraid? Let’s talk about it right now, before another moment passes.
“You don’t need more stuff. You need to get inspired. You need to be inspired to the point that you touch and tap into your own genius.” – Kris Plachy

I almost called this episode, How Do You CEO Your Business When You Wanna Burn the Whole F-ing Thing Down? Because, let’s be honest, sometimes it seems like it would just be easier to wash your hands of the whole thing, right?
If you resonate with this feeling even a little bit, you’re in the right place. In this episode, I discuss the three biggest gaps I see over and over again that either cause massive change or are the result of it. I also tackle the underlying psychological components you’ll need to sit with, such as getting clean and clear, as well as preparing for people to take change personally. Finally, if after listening to this episode you realize you’re ready for more specific advice, I would love to work with you.

If you’re like so many business owners, you absolutely love what you’re doing, what you’re bringing to the world… But managing people? Not so much. In fact, if you could do everything without needing to lead others, you would. Unfortunately, you have to have help. You simply can’t do it all alone.
Regardless of where you feel you land on the capability scale, let me assure you: You can develop the necessary skills to lead well the gorgeous business you’ve been kissed with. But before you can make leading people easy, you must first believe it’s even possible. Let’s talk about it.

In my definition, addiction is doing anything against your own will, knowing it’s not good for you. After all, if you weren’t addicted, you wouldn’t do it. I believe people do things they know aren’t healthy for them because it’s a distraction from disquieting and distressing emotions.
Yet, in our society, being busy, hustling, going after it are applauded, encouraged, rewarded. Needing to work, wanting to work, those are accepted reasons to avoid all kinds of things. Therefore, I see a failure in our society to properly address this unhealthy addiction. But how do we know if we’re addicted to work? And what should we do about it? Let’s talk about this sensitive issue, love.
So for a lot of women who are opening up their laptop after the kids go to bed and saying, ‘Oh, I’ve got to work’: What are you not doing?... What do you have to confront in your life if you don’t have work as an excuse?” – Kris Plachy

The feminine CEO formula. What does it entail, exactly? How do you go from being kissed with an idea to having a thriving business with an incredible team? How do you transition from making so many decisions yourself to ascending into the next level of yourself where you’re not as involved anymore? Such transformation takes time and intentionality.
I want to help you with this intentional process. Walk beside you as you take the time and make the time to grow and change. As with anything, it’s always best to begin at the beginning so I decided to record this episode – a start here to become the CEO. Obviously, we cannot cover everything in one brief podcast but I want to offer my perspective regarding this road, both the positives as well as the pitfalls. It’s super crazy fun and super terrifying, so let’s go.
“What river do you want to be in? Do you wanna be in the one where you’ve got those frickin’ paddles and you’re working so hard to get there? Or do you want to try to figure out how to get into that river with the current that’s gonna help you move?” – Kris Plachy

Being supported is a vital need but we struggle with seeking and accepting support. We know, intellectually, that leadership is an inside job yet we resist. The insights and changes that must take place in order for us to be more competent and confident women stay on a surface level.
Let’s call it out: female entrepreneurs struggle with support. Whether through societal conditioning or other influences, we act as though we don’t need help. Like we’ve got it all under control. The biggest issue with this fallacy is that it only harms us and holds us back. We can learn plenty of solid techniques and methods for success but those systems will only take us so far. If we cannot internalize insights and information, make them mean something to ourselves and our business, we will fall short of our potential. I don’t want to see that happen to you so let’s tackle it head on.

The All-In Coterie for 2023: Helping women identify what they really want to achieve and really getting over their own hangups about it.
With calling comes responsibility. In order to fully embrace your calling, you first must know what it is – not just generally, but specifically. Then you must be ready to fully embrace the responsibility that comes with that calling. Yet, in order to embrace responsibility, it’s integral to identify the influences of your calling.
Who we are and who we’re called to be is interwoven with threads of influence, whether they be threads of encouragement or discouragement, of vocalization or of silencing. Leadership training, philosophies, and so on, creating vision and purpose, are most often based on ideas that came from the minds of men. Which I’m not saying is a bad thing. But if you believe as I do, that women often speak a different language, and that there is a divine element behind your calling, that this is about the soul of your business, this all deserves investigation.
“A calling is serving a soul.” – Kris Plachy

What are you all in on? Does it show? What happens to you when you think about going all in on what matters to you most? What precious things… and, more importantly, what discomforts… come to mind?
That's really the crux of the whole thing, isn’t it? Making the lasting behavior changes necessary to move through, to work in spite of, the discomforts. Love, let me give it to you straight: I’ve come to the place where I’m willing to be a hot mess, even in public, in front of others, for the sake of the thing I want most. Are you? Let’s talk about it.

Firing people is extremely uncomfortable, to state the obvious. What may not be quite as obvious, however, is exactly why you’re not firing them, why you should and why you should right now. Don’t drag the same problems you’ve been having into another year.
To help you, I’ve gathered several thoughts I hope are enlightening, empowering and freeing. As I share, I want you to sit and really listen. Absorb the truth that you are not alone in this issue, that you must make firing “that” person happen, and that you can do it. Your business depends on it, your other team members depend on it, and you depend on it. If you don’t, you’ll continue to struggle, to lose sleep, and to stifle the growth of the business you’ve been kissed with. Let’s not let that happen. Let’s face this tough issue and deal with it.

I do not believe that the strongest, loudest or most commanding are necessarily leaders. While there are some with great ideas or charisma, those qualities don’t automatically equate with leadership. And in many cases, there are people who are influential, even powerful, but their motivations for leading aren’t pure. What, then, is a true leader?
First and foremost, I believe women are born leaders. The idea that only men are true leaders is false. Secondly, and just as importantly, I believe it all boils down to leadership mindset. We must be willing to work hardest on ourselves. Dig deep into our own minds and deal with what we find there. Let’s talk about it, love.

This week I’m featuring my friend Tanya Dalton on the Leadership is Feminine Podcast and I’m so excited!
You see, Tanya is the yin to my yang.
She helps my crazy visionary brain settle down and find the simplicity of what I want to create.
She’s able to do this so well, because she totally gets it. She is, after all, a very successful CEO of several companies she created and then sold!
So when Tanya decided to conduct a four week strategic planning circle this past November, I immediately registered. And of course it was brilliant, because she is brilliant! I was able to sort through my ideas and come up with some amazing plans for 2023. But not only did I come up with the plans, but I also put them on the calendar and really thought through all of the needs I have when it comes to achieving these big goals.
Well, Tanya and I just discussed that she’s going to do it again and she’s going to host the Strategic Planning Circle in January. I decided that I wanted to be able to provide access to this course to all of my clients.
So, she has agreed to provide all of my current clients a $500 discount, taking what is normally $2500 to $2000. The amount of value that she provides in these four weeks for $2000 is amazing. Tonya is such an accomplished wizard when it comes to productivity and efficiency, I feel like she’s practically giving this away for free.
So, if you’re a current client, we will be sending you a private link to use to register for Tanya’s course. (Please watch your email for that link.) If you are not a current client, and you become a current client before December 23, 2022, we will also send you the link to register for her amazing event.
In the meantime, you can learn everything you want to learn about this awesome experience by going to tanyadalton.com/2023. On that page Tanya will explain to you what’s included in this program and all of the deliverables you can expect.
I also invite you to tune in to the podcast this week to learn even more and to experience what Tonya’s philosophy is and what it would be like to work with her. I know you won’t be disappointed!

Operations managers (or similar) often go into the work field and do great work for a CEO with training in things like operations, business management, and similar. And yet, they lack training in how to lead, how to manage people, and how to make decisions in challenging situations. As CEOs, it’s easy to overlook this integral component. What we think our management team ought to handle might be too narrowly focused or we might think they should intuitively know and effortlessly execute these parts of their job. But they don’t.
That's why in this episode, I explore why CEOs should train up their management team. Bottom line, you can’t do it all. Nor should you. That makes it critical to the building of your business. Without a management team who can lead effectively, your business growth will eventually stall. The solution is to invest in quality leadership training for your top people. It’s an investment both in your business and in yourself.
“It doesn’t do any good for you to have all this great leadership management and insight and practices and tools if you then don’t have a right-hand who can do the same. Because the goal… is to get to the point where you’re really not necessary in the business.” – Kris Plachy

Straightforward advice on what to do to manage people is invaluable, especially since typical management discussions center around how hard it can be. But there actually are some ways to make managing people easier. The trick is to not over-complicate issues. And the trick to not over-complicating issues is to recognize the ways in which you might be doing just that.
In this episode, I share the four reasons managing people is actually easy and simple. I hope as you listen, you gain some practical insights and even learn a bit about yourself, including some thought patterns that aren’t helping. I hope this advice, added to a few intentional tweaks to your approach, will guide you into alleviating your management problems. Now let’s talk managing made simple.

From time to time, we need a reset. We may even need to burn it all down, let it all go and see what remains. But because many of us are healers and providers in one way or another, this can be difficult. As leaders, we consider how things will affect others. We find ourselves continuing things because we don’t want to cause potential harm to others. But this can be an anchor to ourselves.
That's why, in consideration of the new year, it may be time to make a new plan. One that might even involve letting some things go. By returning to the pursuit of the new, rather than feeling obligated to what we’ve already built, creativity can flourish again. Are you ready?

We all go through periods of uncertainty about the direction of our business, about decisions, even about ourselves. Second guessing yourself is part of business. It’s part of life. But to build a business that both supports the life you love and can run without you, you must find a way through those times of doubt. And in order to find your way through, you absolutely must invest in yourself.
It is my earnest desire to challenge you into growth, into a new version of yourself and how you show up as a leader. What could be possible if you changed your mind? Questioned your beliefs about yourself and what you can accomplish? Didn’t simply accept that things are “just that way”? Let’s explore this together.
“And sometimes the bigger the decision, the stronger the blowback in our own mind… We are in habit to do that. And the only way to not have that be a habit is to keep doing it and choose another way.” – Kris Plachy

This question is so interesting to ponder. What do you do when all your dreams come true? And here's another to go with it: Have you had a dream come true but haven’t fully reveled in it? Because we should. It’s important to stop and savor the victories in our lives, to recognize all that went into making that dream a reality.
Along with that, it’s healthy to choose how we make our dreams come true. We had such a hustle culture in the past, then we were forced to slow down during the pandemic, and now we are in a place where we get to choose. We choose how we want to show up. We choose how we want to make the next dream come true. Let’s talk about accomplishing dreams and when it’s time for what’s next.
“You tell the story of a woman who is capable of making her dreams come true… And you also trust that there are… other playgrounds to find… And you allow yourself to be open to what comes with that.” – Kris Plachy

There is tremendous value in each woman but so many of us have felt unseen, suppressed and overlooked. In relation to this, recently the truth struck me that women are half the world but we birth the entire world. Take a moment to ponder that. It is inspiring. As women, we have such amazing worth and we are chosen to bring even more worth into the world.
On top of that, we have been kissed with businesses to spread even more good. But one of the biggest hurdles we face is coming into a place where we feel our true worth and operate in it. And from there, the next hurdle is focusing on anyone else who is top-most in our business. But without that focused recognition of value and empowerment, our impact will always remain diminished. And I say, No more! It is time you know and express your worth, Mama!
“If that's you… and you feel small and unseen and you feel like you’ve been disempowered… you do not have to feel that way. But you need support… The best gift you can give yourself, and your business, and the people who love you is your own self-growth… Your own self-understanding… Your own empowerment.” – Kris Plachy
Guiding women and solving issues is my passion. Tackling things that can appear to be unsolvable but really are not. Being real with thoughts and feelings and issues, and especially as entrepreneurial women in leadership. In this, I have found that I'm not alone. Many women crave true connection that speaks to deeper things in their lives and, particularly, in their businesses.
If you’re a leader, and all this resonates with you, you’re in the right place. I want to personally invite you to consider joining one or more of the opportunities I offer. I believe there is so much good for you to do and so much good for you to have, and I would be honored to help you bring those things to life. To help and encourage you to invest in yourself, to step into your power, to embrace the truth that YOU are the asset!
“You have days where you really are stepping into your power and your voice. And you feel really good about it. And you have to look at, ‘Okay, what happened on that day?’ And then there are days where you really question what you’re doing and you don’t know. And you have to look at what’s going on on that day.” – Kris Plachy
As women, we like to collaborate. It’s part of our makeup. However, it’s essential to know how to collaborate as an entrepreneurial leader because not all collaboration is beneficial. So in this next installment of the Leadership is Feminine Formula, we’re talking about the pluses and minuses of collaboration.
When we first start a business, most of us start out as solopreneurs. It isn’t until later that we add a team and add elements of collaboration. And as we work through this new jungle of business growth, it can be way too easy to tumble into the pitfalls. One pitfall is believing that you need others to direct your business. Another is avoiding discomfort. Another is developing an environment where everything has to pass through your hands or approval first. All of these can hinder the growth you desire and deserve. But positive, beneficial collaboration is achievable. Let’s talk about it.
“We collaborate out of scarcity. We collaborate out of believing our ideas aren’t good enough… No. It’s still yours. You always drive the result… and you are totally competent.” – Kris Plachy
As women, we have enormous potential to lead. It’s inherent in who we are. But we tend to dismiss a lot of our feminine attributes as not being effective enough or strong enough. And this simply is not true.
That's why, for this podcast episode, my team and I want to share with you the recording from the first day of our live, free Leadership is Feminine Formula week. It was so powerful and we hope it emboldens you to no longer lead with just your masculine traits. Our desire for you is to compel you to be who you want to be – who you are designed to be – by putting to use all of your wonderful, valuable and dynamic feminine assets to lead and to lead well.
“When you think about yourself as a leader, how do you compare to what you believe leadership looks like? .... Do you align? And if not, where’s the gap?” – Kris Plachy

How does your self-worth relate to accountability? As women, we often relate our responsibility in needing to hold people accountable to how we view ourselves. The negative associations of accountability have grown to the point where setting boundaries seems nearly impossible. It’s gotten so bad that some female business owners have considered just ending their businesses altogether. They’re struggling with a nearly overwhelming number of issues: people not following through, not showing up, not keeping their commitments.
But is the issue of accountability really a direct reflection of us as female entrepreneurs? No, it isn’t. The core actually comes down to how we view our own worthiness. And there are people that want to work, want to do a good job, want to be part of something amazing. They exist. You just need to find them. And you need to reframe your beliefs to embrace that you – and your business – are both worthy and worth it.
“The reason that we allow people to not fully meet the expectations that we have of them in our business is because we don’t believe we are worthy of it.” – Kris Plachy

Leadership Is Feminine podcast episode recommendation: How to Hold People Accountable
Why is holding people accountable so difficult as a female business owner? How did simply holding people accountable become associated with being bitchy? Why do not only others tend to think that but we, as women, can even think that about ourselves? It’s not right!
In this episode, I tackle the problem of holding people accountable. It seems that in today’s age, this can be harder than ever before. But it shouldn’t be. All you’re actually doing is expecting people to do what they agreed to do. It’s not unreasonable. I’ve found that the most important and impactful form of accountability is holding ourselves accountable. What do I mean by that? Let’s talk about how to hold people accountable, without anger and while showing one of the highest forms of love.
“Women, over time, learn to not hold themselves to account when other people disregard, disrespect, do not follow through on – or just ignore – a grievance. Because they don’t want to be thought of as aggressive or bitchy… They get left out of the tribe. So what I want you to know is: You’re very welcome in my tribe.” – Kris Plachy

Book Recommendation: The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown
Finding the right people to work, especially in the last couple of years, has become very tangled. People have started new businesses, closed businesses, changed jobs, juggled an ever-changing job landscape… and so on. While experts in fields have become more scarce, many entrepreneurs have had businesses explode before they are even ready. And thus, they need help but it has been rather chaotic.
The frustration of finding enough good people has become very real. Business owners are finding what they’re seeking for their business is no longer matching what those who are skilled want. So does that mean it’s not going to work? Is it time to hang it up? Or is it time to approach and frame things differently?
“First of all, our clarity in how we design roles is critical… I need people who can think about what to do and they can actually do it... I have to hire strategists that also produce.” – Kris Plachy

Is CEO a noun or a verb? You may have never contemplated that question but the differences it implies are significant. What do you think of, what comes up for you internally, when you hear the word CEO? Do you have a visual in your mind of a particular person? A functional role? A personae? A specific vibe?
As we continue on our path of new and of change this season, I want to challenge your brain and your default thinking. CEO is an acronym that has, for decades, been a very masculine term and title. And, as such, has been difficult for some women to embrace. But what if we viewed “CEO” not as a noun, but rather a verb? What if it is about actions you’re taking to put your magic out into the world, to allow that magic of a business you’ve been kissed with to grow and expand?
“Whatever you choose to call yourself, my goal is always that it instills a little discomfort. And it invites you to a new level of gravitas, a new level of presence, and a bigger, bolder – but also authentic – voice in leadership.” – Kris Plachy

Can you be a successful entrepreneur but not a visionary? And vice versa, can you be a successful visionary but not really an entrepreneur? Perhaps before you can answer those questions, you must first decide: Are you an entrepreneur, a visionary, or both? And, most importantly, how does leadership fit into it all?
As we continue this brand new season (Season 5) of Leadership Is Feminine, I invite you to ponder these questions with me. Often, as business owners, there are questions we don’t think to ask ourselves but find if we did, we’d learn so much and find immense magic in the answers. To that end, I want to explore the difference between a visionary leader and an operational entrepreneur. Is being an entrepreneur simply the operational expression of the visionary? What is the value of being a visionary? Let’s dive in.
“When you’re a real visionary, when you really, really do see things other people don’t see, and you believe in the possibility of what you see that doesn’t exist yet, you have the potential to change the world with your vision.” – Kris Plachy

Why do I say yes when I really want to say no? Why do women, more often than men, gravitate toward people pleasing? I found myself asking these questions and thus pondering: What do I think I’m accomplishing when I’m so agreeable? What am I actually accomplishing? To take it a step further, I pondered the reverse: What am I actually accomplishing when I’m being more controlling?
As we start Season 5 of Leadership Is Feminine, I want to focus on a time of change and some decompression from the pressures we’ve all been under. One definite source of pressure as leaders is people pleasing, as is the opposite, which I term people depleting. This is when people are demanding and controlling, so they themselves can be the one pleased. An interesting fact is that we can find ourselves on either side, depending on the issue and circumstances. But no matter what side we’re on, we can help mitigate the resulting pressure when we better understand people pleasing and controlling as leaders.
“You’re saying yes… not to please the other person. You’re saying yes… because you don’t want to experience your own discomfort of saying no… So who are we really pleasing in the moment? And are we really pleasing anybody?” – Kris Plachy

There’s a current phenomenon called “quiet quitting”. As business owners, we need to be aware of trends like this because they can potentially affect us. In particular, this approach to life is being promoted by Gen Zs but anyone could jump onboard with it.
So what exactly is “quiet quitting” and how can small businesses prepare for its possible impact? In this episode, I explore generational differences, the quiet quitting movement, post-pandemic mental health, clear expectations, having regard for others, and more. How does this all tie together and what might it mean for you and your growing business, lovely CEO? Let’s talk about it.
“We do have the least prepared workforce… I do not say that to be disparaging. I say that because that is true... There is more responsibility now than ever on employers to help people learn what it means to work. And also to work with balance.” – Kris Plachy

If you’re juggling the questions of “When should I hire?” or “Who should I hire?” – let me help guide you. The answers to those questions are completely tied to the answer to a question that should come first. That is, “What phase of growth is your business in?”
This episode idea sprouted from help I’ve been giving to many regarding hiring and two recent Live Coaching with Kris episodes. As we navigate what I call the “Messy Middle” in building an entrepreneurial business, we need help but getting the right kind of help, at the right time, is absolutely crucial. If you hire the incorrect people during the a phase, you can actually lose touch and control of your own business. Please don’t let that happen. Let’s talk about who to hire in the messy middle of your entrepreneur journey.
“Learn how to manage. Anybody could work for you then. It’s fine. If you learn how to manage. But otherwise, you set yourself up where you don’t have control of so much of your business.” – Kris Plachy

As your business grows, you’re going to need help. You can’t build your queendom all alone. But what position should you hire first for your growing business? Should you hire someone to match your work and share the load? Should you hire an assistant to perform numerous tasks? Should you hire someone to complete just specific projects? Is there a way to know what the best choice is?
For this episode of Live Coaching with Kris, I tackle this inevitable growth question. My guest listener has grown her business to the point where she needs help but isn’t sure which position to fill first. She feels she doesn’t have enough revenue to hire more than one person but desperately needs help in more than one area. Together, we discuss the pros and cons of each type of hire, discuss the process of narrowing down hiring options, and ultimately, look at potential solutions in a whole different light.
“It does pay off… You’ve got to think about this as an investment… And you might have to kiss a few frogs. That’s part of the deal too. Just keep going.” – Kris Plachy

“You should do this.” “You should do that!” “Hey, have you considered…” When you’re building a business, so many voices and ideas constantly come at you. You can become lost in all the possibilities and your business becomes your life. Maybe it’s time to build your businesses a little differently… Especially if you realize you’ve built your life around your business, rather than your business around your life.
But what if you intentionally built your business to nurture the life you want? How would you go about it? To begin, you need to quiet the noise all around you, to anchor to internal wisdom, and then act from there. Let’s talk about what it might look like to build a business that supports your life.
“We get so immersed in the business that we end up building a life around the business. We’ve accommodated the business by compromising our lives.” – Kris Plachy

The cost of doing business seems to be rising by the day. Inflation is hitting small businesses pretty hard. The current economy and labor market are so different than even just a couple years ago. And when you’ve got a team, wages, in particular, are a big consideration in your budget.
Because of these unique changes, I hope to help you have a bit of a brain shift in this episode. As leaders, we have Two Buckets to recognize: Beliefs and thoughts (including the opinions of others) versus Facts. The impact of all the information constantly coming at us can make opinions appear as facts. This can dramatically affect how we look at, and what we feel about, everything going on in our businesses. It can especially affect our opinion about hiring and paying wages. So let me give you a bit of tough love and let’s talk about all this.
“Or you just decide, ‘You know what? I signed up to be a business owner. The economy’s a little wackadoodle right now. I’m gonna figure out my plan. And I’m gonna execute the hell out of it’.” – Kris Plachy

Countless methods and resources are available to help you grow your business. Courses, programs, systems, outside help, advisors, even business coaches. But should you hire a business coach? What do they do or not do? For that matter, is everyone with the title “business coach” actually a business coach?
In this episode, I share many thoughts and insights into what a true business coach does. From my own experience, I can confirm that a really great coach can bring huge value both professionally and personally. However, it is also my opinion that not every person who calls themselves a business coach really is one. That’s not to say they aren’t great at what they do, but rather to delineate between an actual business coach and someone who is more properly defined as an expert in specific aspects of business. Let’s talk about it.
“A coach says, ‘I know you know the right answer for you. And I’m going to help you discover that... But your wisdom is in there and I’m going to help you access it.’ That is coaching.” – Kris Plachy

Do your meetings with your team end up off track? Do you avoid scheduling meetings because they’re really not productive? If so, you’re definitely not alone. In this second installment of “Live Coaching with Kris”, I tackle this prevalent problem.
As I coach a listener about how to run a productive 1:1 meeting, clarity in business rises to the surface. When you’re running a business, clarity is necessary in every area. Clarity in job descriptions, roles and responsibilities, clarity in expectations and outcomes, and clarity in the direction each team member is headed. With these in place, meetings naturally become more focused. Couple that focus with praise and positive feedback, and you’ll soon be looking forward to meetings, rather than dreading them.
Speaking of clarity, if you missed the first installment of “Live Coaching with Kris”, I encourage you to go back and listen to it. In that episode, I advise around the common question: Should I Hire a Friend? Clarity is needed in that situation as well and I hope my coaching brings you an abundance of it.
“In my life, we’ve always talked about giving positive feedback as cookies, not crumbs… when you add detail, it really shows that you paid attention.” – Kris Plachy

All business owners face this dilemma: Should I hire a friend? Of course, there is an added emotional dynamic when employing someone close to you. Those ties do require consideration. However, regardless of who you hire, consistent frameworks need to be in place. Without them, decisions and potential outcomes can become very messy.
In this first installment of “Live Coaching with Kris” on my Leadership is Feminine podcast, I address the common question of employing people you know. As I coach a very successful business woman regarding this, we cover guidelines in employing people, clarifying expectations and defining roles, delegating not abdicating, and much more.
By the way, I’m very excited to add these episodes. I’m loving doing these live, anonymous coaching sessions with one of you, my listeners, recording it, and then sharing it so we can all benefit. It’s a blast! I can’t wait to share more of them with you all.

Has believing you’re not business minded held you back? If so, I have good news to share: That may only be because being business minded may not be as you envision it. There is much more to it than stats, accounting and marketing. Don’t allow behaviors and skills that can be cultivated and activated – even if you weren’t good at them in the past – hold you back any longer!
Because how we think about all this can be such a hindrance, I wanted to address it. When I thought about how to approach this topic, my friend Jody Moore immediately came to mind. Jody is a gifted coach and she’s developed a program literally called “Business Minded”. As we recorded this episode, Jody shared how she used to believe she wasn’t business minded but learned differently. She and I go on to discuss several aspects of what it actually means to be business minded, including important metrics, consistent behaviors, sales approaches, and much more.
“Without consistent behavior, skills don’t matter. And, the good news is, you don’t even have to have the skills if you just compensate with behavior… And, then of course, ironically enough, the more behaviors you put in, the better your skills become.” – Jody Moore
Jody in her own words…
Hello, I’m Jody. I’m a lot like you. I am a mother of 4, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and a woman trying to figure out how to minimize resentment, overwhelm and guilt, and replace them with happiness, gratitude and joy.
Three years after getting married I found myself with two kids under age 2, a loving husband, and a lot of self-loathing. I struggled with the duties associated with being a mom and wife and then I felt guilty for feeling that way. After all, this was the life I thought I’d always wanted.
I have a BA in Communications and an MA in Adult Education along with 15 years of experience as a Corporate Trainer and Leadership Coach, but what has helped me the most to overcome my struggles and to conquer all of my goals, are the tools I use now to coach my clients. Thanks to my extensive training with Brooke Castillo of The Life Coach School, I am now a Certified Life Coach, and I couldn’t be more proud of the work I get to do in the world.
What I learned when I found coaching (and now teach to others), helped me gain my confidence back. It helped me enjoy my kids and love my husband exactly as he is. It helped me create a successful business and be the kind of mom I want to be at the same time. The tools I teach are the ones that have helped me live gospel principles and develop a closer relationship with my Heavenly Father.
Today I have the honor of helping women (and a few brave men) achieve the results they desire in all areas of their life. My clients range from young newlyweds to empty nesters and together, we are changing the results in their lives.
I feel so honored to get to work with these individuals to improve their relationships, their confidence, their physical, mental and emotional health, their money situation and their contribution in the world.
I believe all of my previous education and experience has prepared me to do this work. I’m a lucky woman. And guess what?
So are you. I will help you find it.

Stress is inevitable. We’re running our businesses, cherishing our personal lives, navigating the changing world around us… No matter where we turn, stressors are present. Simply trying to tell ourselves not to feel stressed, and to just relax or to just suck it up, is unhelpful and often ineffective. I want to offer an approach that helps: acknowledging the stress, identifying what’s going on when we feel stressed and knowing what we can do to mitigate it.
As we examine how to manage stress for women business owners, I want to discuss the elements of stress. I believe there are major contributing factors such as resistance to the truth, how we buffer stress, and our personal tipping points. In consideration of stressors, we have countless outside sources but the inner source – that is, our own inner dialogue – is the overpowering one. Therefore, the thoughts you think are the ultimate source of stress, and framing them is key to management. Let’s talk about it.
“That inner dialogue that you entertain is really, ultimately, the source that we have to talk to… that inner dialogue is either promoting your ability to be resilient and capable… or that inner dialogue is promoting your ineptitude, your lack of skill... But as you tell that story about who you are, I want you to look at what that does to how you feel emotionally and physically.” – Kris Plachy

Speaking of business mastery, having that throughout your business is crucial. Without it, your business won’t thrive. In Season 4 of Leadership Is Feminine, I’m focusing on various aspects of business mastery. If you’ve missed any of the first three episodes, I encourage you to go back and listen to them. Thus far, I’ve talked about leadership excellence, the ‘Founder’s Curse’, and even how to fire someone nicely.
Business models, kits, courses, systems and similar flood the marketplace. A simple online search pulls an overwhelming number of options. But finding a model designed for women, with women in mind is trickier. As female entrepreneurs, we possess natural strengths and assets which differ from men. We need a business strategy that leverages those.
In this business mastery episode, I address business strategy for women business owners. Before we begin, I want to establish that it’s healthy to periodically adjust and rework your strategy. As your desire for the results of your business changes, your strategy needs to as well. I find I adjust mine about every 24-36 months.
“And that is the part that is so dynamic: that your strategy has to be that fluid AND concrete… and fluid and concrete... It’s just an evolving process. It’s a breathing process. And I think that’s what so many models don’t account for.” – Kris Plachy

For many leaders, hiring is scary enough but what about when you need to let someone go? As I promised, throughout Season 4 of Leadership Is Feminine, I’m tackling some of the most daunting and critical components of business mastery. And how to fire someone, and do it nicely, ranks right at the top for most leaders.
Knowing how to kindly part ways is an invaluable skill, not only for yourself but for the other person. You are able to soften an already difficult and very uncomfortable situation when you know how to address the problem. In this episode, I teach you some guidelines and share some wisdom on how to cause the least amount of injury and pain to both you and them.
“If I walked into your business today and asked people who worked for you if they knew what their goals were, if they knew what the result was that they’re responsible for, would they know? If your answer is ‘Ummm, maybe?’ or ‘Uh, probably not’, we already know we have a cocktail for confusion when it gets to potentially firing someone.” – Kris Plachy
Let me encourage you once more to listen to every episode from Season 3 of Leadership Is Feminine. The insights, ideas and magic shared by the women I interviewed are invaluable.
What exactly is The Founder’s Curse? Of course, it’s not truly a curse but there is a genuine concept here. One that, for lack of a better description, plagues most founders.
As we journey together through Season 4 of Leadership Is Feminine, I want to focus on business mastery. You already have mastery of what you do in the world, that is, your subject matter expertise or practitioner expertise. But what about mastery of the necessities of running your business, such as how to lead and manage teams? We can all use more mastery in that area. And one block to building that mastery is overcoming The Founder’s Curse. I want to bring that into the light, discuss it, and help you conquer it.
“For as long as you keep believing that you’re the only one, ultimately, who will ever really know how to make it work, you will remain the only one, who really knows – ever – how to make it work. And you will keep working harder.” – Kris Plachy
If you’ve not heard all of the amazing, everyday women I had with me in Season 3 of Leadership Is Feminine, I encourage you to go back and listen to all the episodes. The encouragement, inspiration and wisdom you’ll gain is phenomenal.
This episode starts Season 4 of Leadership Is Feminine. If you’ve not heard all of the amazing, everyday women I had with me in Season 3, I encourage you to go back and listen to all the episodes. The encouragement, inspiration and wisdom you’ll gain is phenomenal.
For Season 4, I want to focus on leadership excellence and mastery for women. In particular, I believe that the characteristic of resilience is a core quality. Embedded in resilience is consistency, and with consistency comes mastery. Mastery isn’t based on complex systems. It’s about basic truths, basic principles. In looking back on my own growth over the past 10 years, I’ve found that the same principles are still true, and they are what work.
“I love watching the powerful ability of a women, once she no longer feels helpless to managing and leading people… once she’s no longer helpless to the behaviors and choices of others… once she knows that there’s nothing in her business… she can’t handle… Watching that happen and being witness to women who experience that kind of resolve, and knowing, and wisdom has been so inspiring for me.” – Kris Plachy

Changing your mindset as a leader is a magical gift. It allows you to manage yourself, and therefore, your team, with greater empathy. The beautiful truth about changing yourself is that some change can happen very quickly and it is always worth the investment.
In today’s episode, Dr. Camysha Wright and I talk about change as a leader. We discuss how empowering it is to make time for necessary changes, to refill your own tank so you aren’t always depleted, and the value in investing in your own leadership and management skills. We also revisit a very powerful statement Dr. Wright made during a previous discussion, one that has stuck with me ever since: many things can actually be accomplished in a day. And this can include changing yourself. As you listen to this episode, I hope this truth encourages you as much as it does me.
“I think the biggest gift for me has been the change in mindset… learning how to deal with my own mind… managing your team is definitely very important but you also have to manage yourself… changing the way that I see things and how I analyze, like a problem, has been a huge gift…” – Dr. Camysha Wright

She is President-elect for the Florida Society of Otolaryngology head and neck surgeons and will serve as president in 2023. How much do you allow yourself to have in regards to money? As women, we are conditioned to “tuck it in” when it comes to being extremely successful in earnings. Shame often accompanies this conditioning and holds us back from fulfilling our full potential both for ourselves and for those we love. But a woman’s relationship with money is more deeply connected than it appears on the surface.
In this episode, I talk about women and money with award-winning leader and creative founder of the #1 business and money certified coach training academy, Kendall Summerhawk. Kendall specializes in and emphasizes putting the power to make money into every woman’s hands. We discuss how critical it is to rewrite our relationship with money, the impact of money stories, choosing to control and not control, and so much more. I hope her wisdom and experiences help you shift into magical CEOing and having an abundant life.
“It isn’t selfish at all. If you’re making money through your business… you’re working for it, you’re offering value, you’re changing people’s lives… you have to be the guardian of your dream.” – Kendall Summerhawk
Kendall Summerhawk is an award winning leader and the creative founder of the #1 business & money certified coach training academy for Firestarter women who want to be high earning coaches.

No matter how long we’ve been working at something or how much money we make, doubts will creep in and times of uncertainty will come. But we must learn to listen to that little voice inside that guides us. Tuning into the wisdom of that inner voice, as well as listening to the wisdom of others will fuel us with resolve to carry on.
In this episode, I chatted with Deborah Perlman, founder and CEO of Cocus Pocus about listening to that inner voice. We discuss building your own Queendom, dancing with failure, dealing with hires that don’t work out, and more. Deborah shares how she was encouraged to leave corporate America and do for herself what she’d been accomplishing for others. As you listen to her share her experiences and what she’s learned since becoming an entrepreneur, I hope you are emboldened to follow your own little voice.
“I look at these people in these high level positions and it looks like a golden cage to me now.” – Deborah Perlman

In our businesses, we all need someone who can help with the books. But we also need someone who can help us think forward. Someone who can help us forecast, not retract, and change our thoughts and habits around money. For me, that is my CFO and the owner of Nice Job, Inc., Emily Sandberg.
I wanted to have Emily on an episode to share some of her wisdom and magic, and she delivered. We discussed security, being properly connected to our money, leadership, protecting structures and roles, and much more. As a money genius, Emily gave several powerful statements revolving around how we think about money. She reminded all of us that money does not define us, and neither our businesses nor ourselves are fragile.
“One of the problems I see is women who use money to define who they are. They want the money to tell them they’re good enough, they’re smart enough, they’re capable enough. And so they think if they have enough money, then they’ll know that for sure. But when you're a leader, when you take leadership over the money, what you do then is you recognize money for what it is. It’s a tool.” – Emily Sandberg
Emily Sandberg is the owner of Nice Job, Inc. She’s a money coach specializing in cashflow and forecasting for online coaches and course creators. While most accounting looks to the past for guidance, Emily works with her clients to know the future of money in their business, so they can make strategic decisions with their cash. Her work has helped dozens of clients go from running a money-hungry business to a predictably profitable enterprise, by simply following her profit-centered framework. When she’s not running scenarios for her clients’ Facebook Ad Spends, she can be found playing pickleball or hiking in the gorgeous red rocks of southern Utah with her family.

As your business grows, your role as a leader should change and evolve. This includes what you do on a regular basis and what you relinquish to others. As you realign your leadership into co-creation, you’ll face countless challenges, including properly choosing and nurturing a team, letting go of all the things you once personally did, and even breaking old habits.
In this episode, I converse with Erika Sinner, founder and CEO of Directorie™ about numerous facets of leadership. We talk about setting healthy standards and expectations both for ourselves as leaders and for our team. Erika shares her wisdom regarding trusting yourself and following what you know, deep down, is the next right thing. As we talked, Erika dropped a truth bomb that even I was challenged by. I hope you’re challenged and encouraged as well.
“When you think about things about your business, you always feel like… ‘We don’t have time to create training’, ‘We don’t have time to hire’... And if you replace that with ‘It’s not important to create training’... it changes! It shifts how you feel about the things you just said. Because when you really think about it that way, you have to prioritize the things that are important. Or something’s gotta give.” – Erika Sinner
Enthusiasm, effort, and excellence: the keywords that embody all of Erika’s endeavors. And founding Directorie™ is no exception to this rule…she saw the need for a different model in the industry, and she stepped up to fill the void.
For nearly 20 years, she’s built successful teams, brands, and managed a myriad of agency relationships in the pharmaceutical industry. Her experience spans rare disease, high-science, and traditional medications delivered in the hospital, community setting, or by focused specialists. From clinical development through commercialization and lifecycle management, she challenges her teams and clients to always imagine a unique solution with an empathetic basis.
Erika extends that caring spirit to her family, foster families, and animal rescue organizations. You can participate in those adventures by joining her, her husband, Chris and her furbabies Kingston, Mishka, Edmond, and Theodore on Instagram @crazy4pei.
Directorie™ is a highly-experienced team of pharmaceutical marketing pros ready to take projects to level 11. They confidently join teams with a whole stack of experience to commercialize and prepare organizations with one goal: Medications reaching patients who need them most.

With the demands of life and business in our modern times, peace can be elusive. Yet, as female CEOs, we sometimes talk ourselves out of creating that necessary environment of calm. We wrongly believe we’re not worthy or that it’s indulgent or selfish, but it isn’t. It’s truly an investment in yourself and your business.
In this episode, I talk with interior designer Tara Fust (Tara Fust Design) about the value of peace. We discuss fostering peace in all endeavors, whether it’s in your surroundings or within relationships. She shares about the joy of finding common ground with other women, the pitfalls of taking on a business partner, and the power of staying present through failure. As you listen to our discussion, I hope you find the inspiration to build beauty and serenity into your life and business.
“When you can create those moments of peace and quiet where you can just kinda get back to who you are… So powerful.” – Tara Fust
Tara is the founder and designer of Tara Fust Design. TFD is all about collected, casual, effortless style. It's home. The kind of place that makes you want to kick off your shoes, grab a drink, and hang out for a while.
Tara in her own words… THE FAT: I'm the daughter of an interior designer who grew up living in homes that were constantly evolving, changing… being redone. Combine that with the sunshine and beaches of Southern California and it’s no surprise I’m living a creative life that’s inspired by easy, beautiful living.
THE SKINNY: A move South and the springboard of a little home furnishings store—plus a handful of great clients—and I’ve found my place. It's about creating homes and spaces that invite you in, beg you to stay, and make your day when you come through the door.

The power of showing up, rather than serving in sacrifice, cannot be overstated. When we commit, when we are there, even when no one else is, a superpower is released that often comes in no other way.
In this episode, I talk with Bernadette Doyle, owner and CEO of Bernadette Doyle.com about the superpower of showing up. Throughout our conversation, we discuss feminine leadership, thriving through the unknown, the disservice of sacrifice in business, and much more. I hope you receive a fresh perspective on the magic of committing to, and trusting, yourself.
“There is nothing, in my experience, that trumps that energy of just showing up, committed. I’m committed to serve. I’m here and I’m showing up, even if… you know, you do a Facebook live and you can see you might have no one on with you. But you just show up and you just give it your all anyway. And I think that is the powerpower.” – Bernadette Doyle
Bernadette Doyle has been helping coaches, consultants, trainers and therapists to get more clients organically for over 20 years. She is known for her down-to-earth, practical strategies that help her clients get results fast. Many of them are landing new clients within 48 hours following her approach. She gets a thrill from showing a simple path to 100k without complicated sales funnels, tech or constant launching. Having previously headed a 7-figure business with lots of complexity and moving parts, simplicity is now a core value. Embracing simplicity has allowed her space to run a multi-6 figure business from home, working less than 20 hours a week, so she has time for her passions of hot yoga and hiking.

The power of attraction can be magical for a female CEO. Attraction brings clients, connections and even team members. And when building a quality team, in particular, it can be a secret weapon. People naturally want to work for someone they respect and who is generating good within a particular space. This alleviates the need to go looking for high caliber team members. It also allows the CEO to look into someone who expresses interest in working for them, without making any commitment to hire.
But what, exactly, is the power of attraction? In this episode, I discuss what it is and what it is not with successful CEO and entrepreneur, Karin Carr. Karin is the real estate team owner and CEO at Georgia Coast Homes, the creator of YouTube for Agents, and a coach for those in the real estate business (Karin Carr Coaching). We talk about creating solutions, learning to delegate, turning mistakes into opportunities, and the superpower of understanding attraction. I hope you’ll be inspired and moved to action by this chat. Before you listen, I’ll give you one tiny spoiler alert: The power of attraction isn’t about you looking a certain way.
“You don’t have to be young, you don’t have to be skinny, you don’t have to be gorgeous… By being on camera, yes, there may be trolls that say something negative. But you know what? We can’t let it stop us. You can have such an amazing career if you’re just willing to put yourself out there.” – Karin Carr
Karin Carr is the real estate team owner and CEO at Georgia Coast Homes, the creator of YouTube for Agents, and a coach for those in the real estate business (Karin Carr Coaching).
Karin has been a REALTOR® since 2005. She heads the GCH team with Real in Savannah, GA. Upon relocating to a new city in 2017, she decided to start uploading videos to YouTube to help her become known in her new market.
Her business exploded and within two years she had formed a team that now generates more than 80% of their closings from YouTube. With more than 13,000 subscribers, her YouTube channel, Georgia Coast Homes, gets more than 40,000 organic views a month. Serving markets throughout GA and SC, her team averages 3-5 inbound leads per day without buying leads. Karin’s love of all things YouTube led her to create a training program for other agents around the world who want to generate a steady stream of inbound leads through video marketing.

Whatever your individual purpose is, you are designed to make a difference. Finding precisely how, although, can be a winding path. The very focus on making a difference can cause unwelcome detours, typically caused by fear… Fear of failure, lack of knowledge, feelings of inadequacy… But when you settle into being yourself, follow your heart, and trust in that, you will also achieve your goal of making a difference.
In this episode, I chatted with Jennifer Krepps, the owner of Kritter Kare’s Howliday Inn and Kritter Kare’s Pet Sitting all about this. We discuss wanting to bring an increase in the level of respect in her industry, the desire to thrive and not simply survive, moments that define your legacy, and much more. During our time together, Jennifer wisely compares scenic stops to enrichments in our life journey and I hope this podcast is a scenic stop for you.
“You’ve got to pursue what’s in your soul, what really matters to you. And, I think, in doing that, you will make a difference at the same time.” – Jennifer Krepps

“I am a down-to-earth, Midwest lady with a drive to design a life and legacy that reflects my core values in giving quality time and service to others.”

They started providing in-your-home pet sitting/dog walking services in June 2009, and Jennifer Kreps, company owner, explained at that time what the company purpose was then and still today, “Kritter Kare is not just a pet sitting business, we are a pet caring company. That is our foundation. That is our focus.”

The mindset of an intrapreneur (an introverted entrepreneur) is one of determination to fix what is wrong, even while it is not in their nature to seek a position of leadership. Rather, intrapreneurs frequently find others inquiring of their wisdom, following their suggestions, and asking them to lead. Insight and depth of caring flourish in the intrapreneur, fueling their innate drive to improve processes and ideals in order to improve the lives of others.
In today’s episode, I talked with Dr. Evelyn Hsu, MD, a natural intrapreneur. She discusses how, as a physician, clinician, teacher and researcher, she has found herself in leadership positions without seeking them. She shares at length about pushing past fear and discomfort to achieve worthwhile ends. We discuss the mindset of being an intrapreneur leader, current and necessary paradigm shifts, and how being maladapted (I love this term she uses) can actually be your superpower.
“I can’t accept things just being bad… Accepting the risk to do what’s right is something I’m really willing to do… You can be afraid of everything and do it anyway.” – Dr. Evelyn Hsu, MD
Evelyn in her own words…
“The only way we can change this system for the better is to stay in it as leaders.
I am an academic physician; I am a clinician, a teacher, and a researcher. I’m a former people-pleaser and perfectionist in recovery.
I love academic medicine for the space that it allows for ideas and research, and for the opportunity it gives us to shape the future of what is possible. I don’t love academic medicine for how it is deeply steeped in patriarchy, and the way it encourages us to pay for our progress with our blood, our sweat, and our tears.
I’m in it as a leader and a coach because I want to bring calm to your chaos without compromising your dreams, cutting down your time, or quitting your job. Simply by getting to the point you are at, you are brilliant and effective. Coaching can get you to the next step faster, and with more joy.
I know what it is like to exist within the system that factors in the combined pressure of clinical work, administrative responsibilities, teaching, leadership, and research excellence.
Only a coach who is also a physician can understand the unique pressures of academic medicine.
We will begin with career visioning and goal-setting. Follow-up modules will be tailored based on your needs.
Module topics inclusive of but not limited to: time management, relationships, people pleasing, perfectionism, negotiation, stress, anxiety, writing, projects and mind/life clutter.”

When life doesn’t go the way we think it will, it can seem like a reason to stop dreaming. Tragedy, especially, drives us into a place of acute grief, followed by days where just putting one foot in front of the other is our limit. Krista St-Germain, Life Coach for Widowed Moms, founder of Mom Goes On and host of The Widowed Mom podcast has lived this. Widowed at age 40, Krista discovered grief recovery through coaching and the ability to dream again.
In this podcast installment, Krista shares her warrior coach power and offers her viewpoints and advice regarding business, life and grief coaching. She touches on unexpected grief, unexpected growth, working with a team, the power of failure, and much more. I hope through hearing this episode, you are buoyed and strengthened in your own journey.
“‘Wait a minute, what lights me up here? What would just absolutely feel like a dream to do here? And then follow that.’ And then, boom! I solved the problem that I was so stressed out and losing sleep over. And then in an hour, it felt totally different.” – Krista St-Germain
Krista in her own words…
“When my husband was killed by a drunk driver, I was devastated.
Therapy helped me survive the tidal wave of grief and unfurl myself from the fetal position.
I went back to work. Everyone kept telling me how “strong” I was. I acted strong in front of my kids. But inside I felt hollow. All my dreams had included him.
I desperately wanted to believe I could still have a happy, fulfilling life but I wasn’t sure how. Then I began to research grief, trauma and healing extensively. I studied cognitive behavioral coaching and read every book I could find. I combined what I learned about Post Traumatic Growth with cognitive science-based coaching tools and figured out how to turn my loss into a strategy for growth.
I learned to see myself as stronger because of what I’d been through instead of using it as a reason to stop dreaming.
I created a new life using small, manageable steps and techniques that made sense. The changes I experienced were so profound I became a Master Certified Life Coach and created a group coaching program for widows like us called Mom Goes On.”

Whether good or bad, a leader is one who inspires others to follow. Beyond this definition, however, there are deep questions. What, exactly, makes a leader powerful and effective? What is the element that goes beyond strategies, methods and competency and taps into hidden CEO magic?
A big component is the currency of energy. To understand the existence of the currency of energy and to use that is huge. It releases the magic we all need and want. That, in turn, releases what I hold to be the most important leadership characteristic. I invite you to join me as I explore and share that magical characteristic in this episode.

When people feel heard, they feel known, valued – and this is desperately needed in our modern culture. It is, perhaps, an even deeper need for women in powerful leadership positions. Others listen to accomplished, successful women for the express purpose of acquiring knowledge for their own gain. But who truly hears and sees the strong, powerful women, herself, who is dispensing said knowledge?
Out of this reality comes the wisdom that all need to be truly seen and heard. To not be is quite lonely. As women especially, we naturally possess the ability to listen and alleviate this need, if we are intentional to sharpen our skill. Leaders who do so will draw others to themselves who are at the same level, which is both desirable and mutually beneficial. Through this episode, I hope to ignite in you the desire to awaken the deep, pure magic of being a leader who truly listens and sees.

Holding others accountable, especially employees, is one of the biggest and most common issues leaders face. Why is it so hard to get people to do what you want or assess performance and address issues? Why is holding people responsible so uncomfortable? I believe the core issue is this: We associate accountability with punishment.
Borne from the traditional masculine authority figure dynamic, we anticipate or associate a penalty exacted for an offense. We see this throughout society in various forms. And although punishment is a form of accountability, it isn’t the type needed nor desired in business. It is neither relevant nor applicable. What we need and desire from those we lead is ownership, obligation, and investment in the outcome. We need proper accountability. So how do we nurture that desired environment of personal responsibility? To start, we must disassociate punishment from accountability.

We tend to be organized, especially as a society. Structured, linear thinking is expected and natural. This leads to us believing not only do we know what will happen but also why. And therefore, we believe we have control over things. This control thought-pattern then breeds a constant stream of how. How are we going to do this, how are we going to do that?
But what if not investing all our energy into the how frees us to lean into belief? Frees the magic of the creative process and fuels success for our vision? Let’s recapture the what we’ve been kissed with through embracing the magic of NOT knowing how.
Why we lose the magic
Vision getting lost
Not knowing the how
An example from my life
Absolute clarity, without any idea of the how
Loving what you do releases the magic
Lean into joy
Commit to being more of you
The missing piece
How versus the energy of truly believing
More than just tactics
Worry robs us
Increased capacity
Release your need to know
Ways the how generates more easily
Nurture what you’ve been kissed with
Refuse anxiety triggers
Be healthy, thriving, open, free
Achieve through proper work

Does how you do things as a leader really matter? I absolutely believe it does. The typical CEO is tired and overwhelmed, and this often results in unwittingly creating problems. But CEO magic leadership can be the solution. It can take your business from just surviving to thriving. But how, exactly, do you learn to possess and dispense CEO magic?
In this episode, I talk briefly about CEO magic. It all starts with correctly identifying the root of problems, and properly addressing the mindset that perpetuates them. From there, you begin to grow, thrive, be filled with joy, and drive yourself and your team in a more positive direction. From that magical place of leadership, success abounds. After sampling the basics I cover in this episode, I invite you to consider diving deeper through my program, How To CEO. I’ve helped many leaders find their magic, and I cherish the opportunity to help you find yours.

As humans, we create things first in our minds. Magical things happen when we imagine them, then make them reality. Through that process, we feel. And great things come to us through feeling. That’s why giving space to celebrating, leaning into accomplishment, and allowing pride, joy and wonder to manifest will foster even more success. Celebrating your success breeds more success!
Happy New Year! How are you?! I love the energy whenever the new year comes around! It’s a great time to pause and focus on your goals, intentions, whatever, right? So, I thought that, following the theme of CEO Magic, I would do a different kind of episode that would encourage you (as female entrepreneurs) to invest in yourselves and your wisdom. I saw that there were no affirmations for female entrepreneurs so I thought I would create some for you. Take from these what resonates as you launch into this new year.
What You'll Find in This Episode
1. Information about the upcoming cohort of How to CEO, the next Advanced Leadership Coach certification class, and the Sage CEO program. 2. Affirmations that will empower you into the new year.
Should you pay a year end bonus and give your employees extra? We expect certain results from the people we hire, and we pay them a salary for those results. Not for their time. Not for their experience. We can give them a bonus for just the simple joy of giving a gift or we can give them a bonus based on their individual results/ extra work. Making payment commitments to employees is a serious decision to make and should be greatly considered. A gift can turn into an expectation for your employees and a headache for you. No matter how you decide to pay your people it is an important thing to consider.
What You'll Find in This Episode:
1. Having a consistent payment philosophy is key. 2. Bonuses are extra pay for extra results (or they’re gifts). 3. Paying a bonus out over a year is a good way to ensure that the bonus won’t be wasted.
You, as an entrepreneur, have to be an optimist, right? You take risks and believe that something will work out and you cultivate that vision to get your team through the frustration and on to the next thing. Being a leader (as you are), you set the tone for your team. So, why not set an optimistic one?
What you’ll find in this Episode:
Sometimes it’s hard to know what’s possible for ourselves, right? I think having visual representations of things that evoke emotions in us can make our brains believe something exists in the world before it actually does exist. That’s why having a vision board is so important. Not just for your business, but also for you! Find some pictures in a magazine and rip ‘em out and place them where you can see them every day! Act as if that’s what’s gonna be in your life one day and just dream, dream, dream! And one day that dreaming will evoke reality!
What You’ll Find in this Episode:
1. You can evoke things in your life by visualizing them. 2. Being older doesn’t mean you can’t dream.
Part of our experience as a human is to feel discomfort. We struggle and often ask ourselves, “Why me? Why is this happening? What am I doing?” But none of these unexpected moments are stop signs. They are opportunities to make empowering choices and find what’s next for you.
What you’ll find in this episode:
I hear you, love. You're drowning in content. In quote tiles, free downloadables, and 'how-to' guides. You don't need more voices; you need an ear. But not your girlfriend's or your partner's-they can't give you answers or solutions, they can only offer you their opinions, however well-intentioned.
Take a look at your business and at yourself as the leader of your business. Where are your pockets of opportunity? Have discernment, where do you truly need development and advisement? Be intentional about which problems you want to solve in your business and then invest in them.
In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, I'm teaching you how to reinvent your relationship with time so you can prevent and reduce overwhelm as a woman entrepreneur.
What you'll find in this episode:
We've all had our fair share of challenges in 2021, haven't we? But, as women leaders, one of the biggest challenges we constantly face is believing in ourselves, in a world that constantly tells us that we're too emotional, too touchy, that we don't have a mind for business.
But guess what, Gorgeous? I think your emotions are your SUPERPOWER. Let me tell you why.

Visionary women experience similar challenges. A visionary woman isn't just a visionary in her business, she's a visionary in her life. She often feels unseen, unheard, isolated and empty because visionaries are the people that others go to for help, support, and love.
So where does the visionary woman go to work out her worry? If you're a woman with a big dream on her heart and you know that there's so much more you want to do, but you feel frustrated and don't know how to manifest it all – you’re in the right place. Let’s talk about it.

Many of the women that I work with struggle when it comes to holding team members accountable. But the truth is that accountability is one of the greatest forms of self-care that you can create for yourself as a business owner—even when it’s difficult. When you’re not taking care of yourself, you’re not taking care of your business. Period.
In this week’s episode of the Leadership is Feminine podcast, we’re digging deep into the archives of my old podcast, How to Lead for Female Entrepreneurs, to bring you a relevant and timely episode that we thought worthy of another listen, given our theme of Leadership as Self-Care.
Let’s re-imagine what it means to hold others accountable, thus treating ourselves to more of the self-care that we deserve as women, business owners, and human beings.

FEATURED ON THE SHOW AND OTHER NOTES:
Throughout my time as a coach, I’ve noticed a pattern of powerlessness when it comes to women. This is not only in their relationships with men, but also within themselves, and this general lack of power often leads to victimhood.
Another observation is that being an entrepreneur often pushes women to completely unexpected leadership growth which can cause challenges in their partnerships. Because in order to be the women needed to run their businesses, they have to stand differently in their relationships with their partners.
Let’s look at what it means to take back your power – to be the truest version of yourself, and how that can help you as both a person and a woman running a business.

Did you know that you can always reinvent your business? I hesitate to say RE-invent only because it almost says that we're doing something again. But it’s actually less about RE-inventing, and more about IN-venting. We have all been very insidiously infused with what we think the world, life, leadership and business should look like. The world is ready for all sorts of new ideas about what it means to lead, run a company, create a company, and manage people, and we all need to be at the forefront of that. Let’s start today!

Behavior is born out of emotions. So, whatever you feel drives your behavior - your actions in the world. And the only thing that we all can assess about one another is our actions. When a leader is cruel or mean, that’s someone who doesn't know how to manage an ego, who doesn't have self-awareness.
One of the cornerstones of effective leadership is self-awareness. So today we’re talking about leaders taking responsibility for their space and not holding other people accountable for their emotional health.

I know that you were born perfectly perfect. Your life “kit” was equipped with everything you need to live the life you want to live and to harness whatever you need to make things happen. But your kit didn’t come with instructions. So, this CEO tool allows you to use what you have without dictating to you who you're supposed to be. It leads to wisdom, and once you have wisdom, you can handle anything!

It’s normal for human beings to desire comfort and to avoid change, but working for an entrepreneur can be “disruptive.” We need our employees to come along with us. So, what do you do when you have employees who settle and become complacent? It’s not really their fault. The first person you have to look at -- is you.

Entrepreneurs are usually full of hustle. They’re scrappy and all about winning. And that works for a while, but it often leads to burn out and overwhelm. Today we’re talking about the importance of “the way” - not just “the win.” So what does the way look like for you?
