Recently our home was broken into, and I was home alone. I'm very lucky and grateful I'm ok and my family and home are ok. I absolutely loved this conversation with Tricia Huffman on F the Shoulds. Do the Wants. Removing one word from your vocabulary can have such a big impact on your thoughts and actions. I plowed through her book, put this into practice, and have noticed how often I lean into the bad habit of "I should," instead of "What do I want" or "What can I do?" If you're a human with a beating heart, you can relate. Looking at how we move, in our yoga or any other movement practice, is a great opportunity to shift how we go through challenge. We can accomplish so much more when we move in alignment with ourselves in every moment. The biggest challenge can be looking at ourselves enough, to see and decide to change how we do what we do. We can shift from struggling with what's not working, to finding a better way.

Having a practice of gratitude will change your life dramatically. When things are going well for you a practice of gratitude will ground you and help you navigate with ease. When things are a real struggle, gratitude dissolves the tension and helps you see more clearly toward a better way. Gratitude is something you need to be doing every day, just like drinking enough water. When I first started to get interviewed about my books and yoga, a lot of questions I received were about confidence. It's an interesting topic with loads of complexity, but gaining it doesn't need to be scary. It can be a fun and rewarding journey.
When I would first hear those questions, I didn't really know how to answer. It was like trying to un-bake a cake. How did you get so confident to do what you do, to create something that wasn't there, to do something differently.
The answer, for me, is in knowing my process. I want to use my energy in this life for good. I feel a pull to practice, improve, take care of myself, get better, get more practice, and help as much as possible, however I can. Sustainable confidence is a result of learning and doing tumbled together forever, with your unique, special, and amazing point of view.
No one else will every be you. Being yourself is a good start. Next comes the doing. When you are pulled into the process of doing and getting better at what you do consistently, confidence simply becomes you. There is no short cut, but there is a clear process that will eliminate fear and confusion and keep the imposter syndrome at bay. You deserve to feel better and be confident in you.

Yoga is so vast and deep. It can be a challenge to focus in on your experience and what you want out of your practice. What are all these down dogs for anyway? When you decide what you want out of your yoga practice, your yoga practice changes to bring you exactly what you desire. Life expands accordingly. Tara shares her personal journey from diving into the yoga world first without goals beyond the excitement of the practice. When she started to learn that you can use your practice to affect positive change in your life, everything opened up.
