In Dread Glimpse’s second episode, Host Thorn Winter, presents a short but powerful nonsense poem from the mid-1800s, titled Jabborwocky and written by Lewis Carroll, whose real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, and who was an English writer most known for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass.
Jabberwocky, often relegated to the back reading rooms of elementary school libraries, is really a vision, a spell, that when properly incanted, can unleash powerful white magic. With whimsy, it tells the age old tale of the mythic hero, warned against the terrors of the dark forest, who goes searching for them anyway, finding a need to draw his blade against deadly nightmare, taking its head and celebrarting victory as the hero returns to normal life - and we are left wondering when next Jabberwocky will come...
For me this poem is a declaration, a drawing of the weapon of the soul against the terrors that can ravage the injured and uninjured psyche alike. I have deep compassion for those battling depression and anxiety with its multiple causes and manifestiations - truly the infinite phantom legions of the abyss. This poem can dispel evil even as its hero destroys Jabberwocky itself.
In the production of a thing, thoughts come. This episode is for the frontliners putting themselves and there families at risk to answer their calling and for the hurt and the hurting.
I hope you feel the power of this performance, which was selected for being a twice-great-grandparent of modern science fiction, fantasy, and horror stories including J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter Series and so much more - as well as having that personal flavor which your humble narrator so secretly appreciates - secret lest such revelations in full be the downfall of my past upon me.
The first step is the most difficult, but the second is the most promising as it marks the beginning of the rythm, and I look forward to producing next week's episode which still is seeking for a subect.
