Season 4 Ep 3 - Influencers vs Vultures

Hali , DJ Candy Raine ,Cidnee and Nika recap the beginning of their year . It was MLK weekend , Hali got a chance to feed the homeless and attend the women’s march . We recently had the #carefreekiki ball - a pride event to highlight the lgbtq community.

Our CareFreeBlackGirl of the week is CAU alumni, Rachel Jackson who was recently promoted a&r at Roc Nation . The ladies also shout out Kamala Harris for announcing her run for Presidency. The group talk the good and bad surrounding her announcement. And the importance of change and accountability during these tough times . Nika details the ways the government shut down is affecting everyone’.

The main topic of the day was culture vultures and colorism in the industry. Big Draco reminded the world of all he’s done for hip hop and entertainment. That got us to thinking has the culture been robbed ? And what do we do to take it back from vultures . Candy Raine talks the many times we’ve seen colorism in music . The group encourages more black artist to get in where they fit in , even if that means writing for more popular artist. But also understand and speak up when we are being robbed and ask for credit . The group challenges consumers to be more supportive of black women artist like Dreezy, Kash Doll , Bbymutha .

The ladies also discuss women actors in Hollywood and the way they’ve demanded their space . Shout out to Marsai Martin for being the youngest director with her new movie “Little”

The Grammy nominations were just released and they are BLACK. CFBGPOD discusses who they think should win and why . Hali let us know she listened to Alicia Keys in the womb .

Our “Get Free” segment surrounds dating as a creative . Cidnee talks the struggles of dating a non creative as a person and the importance from them to understand your lifestyle . AND we're back ! welcome to Season 4 of #CareFreeBlackGirl Podcast. This season we have four new host - Hali, DJ Candy Raine, Cidnee Rich and Nika. The ladies kick off the episode with our CareFreeBlackGirl of the week , sister Stacey Abrams and her fight to secure the Georgia governer seat. The group highlights the other women who were elected into offices during this midterm election. On a serious note the election brought to light a serious issue in this country - voter suppression. The Gurl segment this episode surrounded Revolt TV's State Of the Culture with JOE BUDDEN , REMY MA, Jinx and Scotty BEAM . The ladies stumbled across and episode where BUDDEN was calling for more women to call out other women for their behavior. Brittney Renner , instagram personality and soon to be author is set to release a tell all book . The group thought Joe's approach was a little harsh while Scottie Beam made valid points regarding free speech. With free speech in mind the ladies open the Get Free segment to figure out how to deal with people who are set on misunderunderstanding you. Especially those family and friends we cant escape from during the holidays.

Our host Cidnee got a chance to visit this years Complex Con in California. Listen to hear all the innovative things she discovered her first time at the festival.
