Submit Review#1269 Today's Where Are They Now? session is truly special! You see, my returning guest has done a fantastic job of adapting and refocusing when circumstances almost shut his business down. So how did he pull it off? In this episode, I'm catching up with Jim from Spanish and Go to find out. He runs a fantastic brand with his wife, May, helping people connect to the culture and language of Spanish-speaking countries. The pandemic put an abrupt stop to the high-ticket retreats at the core of their monetization strategy, but a shift to podcasting helped Jim and May offset that in a big way. Their show is up from sixty thousand to almost a million downloads since we last spoke. That's insane! Now, Spanish and Go has become a thriving six-figure business. Join us for this great discussion to learn how Jim has leveraged his organic audience growth to attract sponsors and create a community of superfans! #1262 Wow, the transformation you'll witness today is absolutely incredible! My returning guest has made unbelievable strides in his business. Not only that, but he has been able to quit his job and go all-in on entrepreneurship! Mark Savant is back for a Where Are They Now? session to remember. #1259 This Where Are They Now? episode is a perfect example of why I love this format. My returning guest, Hel Reynolds of Comms Creatives, has made absolutely amazing progress since we last spoke! Back in episode 1174, Hel was having trouble prioritizing her business opportunities. Squirrel syndrome is something I'm all too familiar with, so I shared a number of my most powerful time-management strategies with her. Hel has since implemented the 20% itch rule and structured her week so that she puts in impactful work at key times. As expected, the results in her business have been incredible! But while Hel's current scheduling approach is rife with tips we can all leverage, she's still struggling to rein in her weekends and take time off. #1258 Today's Where Are They Now? session is one for the books. You see, the first time we heard from my returning guest was all the way back in episode 0132. That's crazy! When we last spoke in episode 1175, the pandemic had hit Sarah Donoghue's Alchemilla.co business pretty hard. But here's the thing. Something absolutely extraordinary happened right after our talk. It actually wasn't the advice I shared that led to it. It was you, the listeners, who made this happen! Joining us today is someone who has become an integral part of Sarah's business as a direct result of that episode. You'll hear from Ashton Cayce of SausageTreeLotion.com about how she's bringing Sarah's vision to a whole new market. #1257 Today we're continuing our fantastic Where Are They Now? episode run. Emory Wanger, my returning guest, is someone who I often use as an example because of the incredible way he serves his niche. At ByLand.co, he provides backpackers at any level with the specific resources that make sense for them. As you know, we're deeply committed to online communities here at SPI. One thing we rarely talk about, however, is creating and running free Facebook groups. In fact, we've advised our listeners against that strategy here and on our Community Experience podcast. But are Facebook groups ever the right move for a business, and can we use them to attract and drive traffic to our offerings? Emory may have cracked the code! Dan Bennett of VideoForEntrepreneurs.com is a wonderful member of SPI Pro, and that's exactly what we talk about today. #1255 This is a very special Where Are They Now? session. You see, my returning guest was able to quit her full-time job just three months after our first AskPat call together. But she actually decided to go against my advice and follow her gut instead! Now, to be honest, that's not exactly the whole story. I'll let Dr. Kimmy of The Doctor Coach School share the twists and turns of her journey with you. Suffice it to say, she's serving more people than ever, and business is booming. I say it all the time—the riches are in the niches. By narrowing our focus, we're actually helping more people. This is a counterintuitive strategy that many beginner entrepreneurs struggle with. Dr. Kimmy was able to overcome this hurdle and take her business to the next level. In today's episode, we hear all about how she found her voice and is now helping women doctors of color transform their lives. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1255.

#1254 Today, we're bookending 2022 with an absolutely incredible Where Are They Now? session. Don't miss this one because my returning guest has accomplished something I genuinely didn't think was possible. Jackie Bolen of ESLspeaking.org has written and published over one hundred books in her niche. That's insane! #1252 This is a massive success story! David Young worked for the FBI before joining my first SPI Accelerator program in 2018. #1251 What is the number one way to grow your audience when you're just starting out? Before you can expect people to discover you, showing up and providing value through existing channels is key. In this coaching session, I'm joined by Paul Higgins of the Cloud Consultants Collective and PaulHigginsMentoring.com. He is an expert in his industry who runs a Slack community for fellow cloud consultants, a niche of about sixty thousand people worldwide. So how should Paul go about reaching a highly targeted group? With no one else attempting this, how does he become the de facto online resource in his domain? #1250 Tim Ferriss once asked me a powerful question—what would this look like if it were easy? When we feel overwhelmed, it's often because we make our work more complex than it needs to be. Most of the time, the easy path can deliver the same or better results with less effort. This is what we zero in on in this coaching session with my guest, Chris Greer. He is a religious leader and author who wants to run retreats for people in need of a break from the craziness of day-to-day life. Today, I help Chris identify and focus on the essential elements that can help him shave years off of his launch dates. We talk about beta releases, in-person events, the best social network to use, building an email list, and much more. Chris and I cover a lot of ground, and we land on some great actionable tips that are applicable to any business. Enjoy! Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1250.

#1248 Many of you know I got laid off from my dream job in 2008 and started teaching architects how to pass the LEED exam as my first niche business. Luis hosts a podcast and shares resources and courses through his brand, Engineering Our Future. #1247 What should you do when you don’t even know where to start in business? One thing you shouldn’t do is get so caught up with steps eight, nine, and ten that you lose focus of steps one, two, and three. Today, I’m chatting with Dr. Damaris Grossmann of Mindfully Integrative. She is a veteran who has overcome serious health issues and is now helping others do the same. But, with a lot of stuff going on, it’s easy to start worrying about the little things and forget the very real impact we have on people’s lives. In this coaching session, I help Dr. Damaris focus on the most effective strategies to grow her brand. We talk about why her small but targeted audience can be extremely powerful. I also share my tips for podcast guesting and book marketing to help her reach more people. Listen in on this chat for a strong dose of inspiration and motivation! #1246 Getting to a point where there’s more demand for your services than you can handle is a dream come true, right? But what happens when you want to focus on building something bigger than yourself and have to turn down one-on-one clients to free up time? Today, I’m talking to Sybil Ackerman-Munson of Do Your Good. She works with philanthropists to help them figure out the most effective ways to donate money. We’re talking millions of dollars! But here’s the thing. Sybil’s expertise applies to donations of any size. She wants to take her business to the next level by creating resources for anybody looking to explore philanthropy. This means cutting back on client work and investing time into something that may or may pan out. In this coaching call, I share strategies that can enable her to halve her one-on-one work without losing any income. I also give her a new perspective on the risks she’s taking on. Often, these situations are not as frightening as we make them out to be in our heads! Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1246.

#1245 I love sharing these Where Are They Now? episodes because the progress is often incredible. This session is no exception. Back in episode 1190, Gillian Tietz introduced us to her amazing podcast. Through Sober Powered, she helps people understand and overcome addiction. Her show is growing fast, but Gillian has her sights set on something even bigger. You’ll hear it from her, but she is building a legit empire. The Sober Powered Media Network brings podcasters in the addiction space together under one brand. The benefits in terms of marketing, monetization, and sponsor acquisition are unbelievable. We chat about all of that today. Of course, Gillian is under a lot of pressure. We also dive into how to manage the stress that comes with this level of responsibility and why transparency is key. #1244 Something powerful happens when we connect with a targeted audience using the right language. Our products start flying off the proverbial shelf when we niche down and articulate specific problems and solutions. Case in point, Julie Browne coaches people through unexpected identity loss. If that doesn’t paint a picture, think about unpredictable events like divorce, job loss, or maybe a health situation. Many people are left questioning who they are after losing a big part of their lives. I know I was when I got laid off in 2008. So how should Julie think about marketing her broad expertise? In this episode, we talk about targeted audiences, finding the right messaging, book and podcast marketing, and we even touch on building communities. There are plenty of takeaways for you today if you're struggling to find clarity and focus in business. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1244.

#1243 Often we create excuses for ourselves to mask the fear that’s actually holding us back. Azreer Gill lives in Cambridge Bay, Canada. He’s within the Arctic Circle, and, as you can imagine, that comes with some challenges. But are these obstacles a legitimate reason not to start a business that could save lives? Like many people in his community, Azreer has struggled with addiction. He is now seven years sober and wants to help people by sharing his recovery story, but he needs a push to get started. We discuss why podcasting is the perfect medium for him and how he can use it to build a targeted audience. Azreer does stand-up, so he’s already a great storyteller. When we use our experiences and define a problem better than our listeners, it’s natural for them to come to us for solutions. This episode is a great reminder to look under the hood and understand the source of your limiting beliefs. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1243.

#1242 What happens when you experiment with different tactics in your business to see what works? Usually, a few strategies pan out, while most don’t. But what do you do when suddenly everything you throw at the wall starts to stick? How do you zero in on the path that grows your business without taking up all your time? Bill Henry is an elementary music teacher and founder of Mr. Henry's Music World. He also co-hosts The Music Podcast for Kids, and runs an incredible music education YouTube channel! Bill serves multiple audiences, has courses for sale, affiliate marketing requests coming in, and even some very interesting franchising opportunities. We hop in the DeLorean today to help Bill get some clarity about what the future could look like. Saying yes to one opportunity often means saying no to others, so we need to know where our time is best spent. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1242.

#1241 As you know, I’ve written several books over the years. The support from readers has been phenomenal, and I’m massively grateful for it. Of course, it’s still important to look back at my book launches and think about what I would do differently now. That’s exactly what my returning guest, Jadah Sellner, wants to know. Jadah is an entrepreneur, business mentor, and host of the Lead with Love podcast. She has already released a recipe book but is now in the final stages of copy-editing her first business book! In this chat, we discuss the best tactics to get as many readers as possible. Jadah has brought her audience along for the writing process, which is crucial. I advise her on podcast guesting to promote the book and steer her away from strategies that haven’t worked for me. This is a great jam on book launches, and we also get into CTAs, lead magnets, and leveraging stories from beta readers. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1241.

#1240 Some problems are great to have, even though it might not feel like it. When the businesses we’ve been putting valuable time into start to take off, it can get overwhelming. Matthew Usherwood has an office job and a family with two young kids. His brand, Distance Hiker, is growing like crazy, and he needs help figuring out what to focus on. In this coaching call, we reverse engineer what the company could look like based on Matthew's ultimate goal of taking it full-time. He is dealing with a bit of Squirrel Syndrome, so I help him prioritize the strategies that can work best for him. Matthew is also reluctant to rush into monetization and come off as salesy. You’ll hear me share my perspective about products that offer true value and how to get them in front of people the right way. #1239 In business, different is sometimes better than better. Keith Hayden, is a prime example of this. He is an author and is doing incredibly unique things online to promote his fiction book. Keith has come up with a fantastic audiovisual "book experience" that breaks his novel down into bite-sized chunks for social media. But how should he go about getting more eyeballs on his content? We talk about building word-of-mouth, which is vital for any book release. We also discuss Keith creating these “book experiences” for other authors as a side gig. #1238 What can people get from you that they can’t get from anyone else? This is a vital question that many beginner entrepreneurs can't answer. When I asked Joe Casabona about his unique offer, his reply blew me away. So what does he do? Joe helps podcasters earn their first $10,000 off of their shows! In this coaching session, we talk all about lead magnets. Joe wants to grow his email list, and he and I brainstorm some ideas to take the freebies he’s offering to the next level. Joe also hosts Make Money Podcasting and wants to reach a larger audience with the show. I talk to him about getting guest spots on other podcasts and how to maximize the impact those appearances have. I had a blast on this call with Joe, and we covered a lot of ground with plenty of tips for you along the way. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1238.

#1237 Do you even need to use social networks at all? Social media is what we make of it, that’s why it’s vital to have a conscious approach if we decide to use it. Natasha Carrillo has been off social networks for the past ten years and is struggling with that decision. She co-hosts the Black and Brown Make Green podcast and wants to spread her message to more people. In this coaching session, we talk about social media as a broad-asking system instead of a broadcasting system and what that means exactly. We also discuss specifics like how much time to put in, how often you should post, and where. Many podcasters struggle on social media because they don’t have the right mindset. So we get into some podcast-specific tactics today as well. Natasha asks all the right questions in this episode, and this is a great one to help us protect ourselves against the pitfalls of social media. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1237.

#1236 In this "Where Are They Now?" session, I’m chatting with Cassidy Tuttle. She’s been a student of mine for a long time, and I actually had her on the SPI podcast way back on episode 283. Cassidy's Succulents and Sunshine is booming right now, and she needs help handling the growth and success of her business. Often when we first start delegating tasks to free up time, we end up giving ourselves a new job as a micromanager. Cassidy wants to become more comfortable letting others run with her ideas and things not turning out exactly how she envisioned them. She also understands that she can’t always be the face of her brand but doesn’t want to disappoint her audience. As our businesses grow and change, we sometimes just need to get out of our own way. So listen in, get inspired, and take your business to the next level! Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1236.

#1235 It can often be overwhelming to think about how we could grow our businesses. But one easy way to scale is to go just one level beyond what’s expected of us. In this coaching call, I’m chatting with Dustin John Staats of BGE's Tabletop. They sell board games online and have also opened up a brick-and-mortar store recently. Dustin wants to provide more value to his customers and keep them coming back. He’s already doing some really smart things, like sending a Bonjoro video with every order to make the buyers feel special. We talk about defining value for his target audience and putting the spotlight on his community. Dustin and I brainstorm some cool ideas for his store that will inspire you to apply this kind of approach to your business as well. We also get into Deep Pocket Monster, and I talk about the strategies I use to stand out in the crowded Pokemon space and serve my audience there. #1234 As a solopreneur, what do you do when your business idea finally takes off? If you don’t see a problem here, let me explain. You’re planning the next move, you’re creating content, you’re working on new products, you’re doing customer support and filing taxes. You’re doing everything! That’s where Chris Gilmour is at right now. He’s been a student of mine for a long time. He went through Smart From Scratch, our beginner entrepreneurs course, and explored a couple of ideas before landing on ChrisOutdoors.ca. His business is booming, but Chris is doing everything himself and feeling overwhelmed. So how should he grow his business from here? Listen in on this coaching call to hear us brainstorm strategies that would help him free up his time and bring in more customers. I walk Chris through everything from mastering the most relevant platforms right now to letting go of certain tasks and starting to hire out. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1234.

#1233 A mistake many entrepreneurs make is to undercharge for their products. We want to help as many people as possible, if we don’t charge our worth we’ll never land on a sustainable business model. I’m chatting with Aneliya Manolova and Pierre Debraux today. They run Sci-Sport.com, where they provide clear and objective information about sports and exercise science. They have the PhDs to back them up but are afraid to start charging. I felt the same way when I first started selling and I walk them through a few thought experiments to figure out the best pricing strategy for them. We look at how the perception of value would change and the kind of clients they’d attract at different price points. I also help them see their offering in the larger context of what their target audience members are buying to get similar results. Lots of takeaways today. Enjoy! #1232 Today, we're back with another Where Are They Now? session. Back in episode 1181, Wendy Lewis had a book coming out, and she was creating her first online course. She was feeling overwhelmed, so I gave her some tips about starting small and keeping things simple. Something I said really stuck with her: “Fail small to win big.” I should say that more often. So how has Wendy been taking action? She’s a board-certified reflexologist and taking that kind of business online can be difficult, but she’s been doing a fantastic job. We talk about her ups and downs and hear about the amazing beta launch she just did for her course. We also talk about all the fun things Wendy has planned for her business and how SPI Pro is helping her stay motivated. #1231 As entrepreneurs, we provide value in our niche through great products and services. But what if your target audience never buys anything from you? What if someone else is making the actual purchase? Jeff Gargas is dealing with this in his business, Teach Better. They market themselves to teachers with free content, but then it’s school administrators or curriculum directors who pay for their premium offerings. This type of business model comes with some challenges but also some opportunities that Jeff and I explore today. He has new courses coming out all time and a membership site. We go through a few thought experiments and land on several options that would expand this side of his business. Jeff has a lot of knowledge and asks some deep questions about pricing. We zero in on finding the strategy that would best serve his audience and bring in more revenue. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1231.

But how should he message podcasters he’s not connected with yet? I get a lot of requests, so we dive deep into what works and what doesn’t. #1202 I'm excited to bring back Steve Collins of TeachHoops.com, who joined us in episode 1013. His target audience is other basketball coaches at all levels, and when we last spoke, he was building his membership site. Well, Steve has made some even bigger strides since then. He's building out his YouTube channel. And get this—he has not one, not two, not three, but four podcasts. Yes, four. How does he manage production for four separate shows? That's one of the things we talk about today. And his plans for the future are incredible and inspiring. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1202.

#1201 In today's “Where are they now?” episode we're chatting with Tarun, a dentist who was with us in episode 1,035. Back then, I helped him through his hangups about creating his own recorded content after his in-person dental work over at dentists.com/">3d-dentists.com was affected by the pandemic. This is a fun episode, and I think you'll be surprised and impressed to hear what Tarun's been up to. Although his work-life balance has been a bit of a challenge, he's moved on to some really exciting new stuff. He's up to something especially cool when it comes to live events—something that gets my own wheels turning about a similar idea I have. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1201.

#1200 I'm excited to bring back another entrepreneur who's been on the show before: Meryl Johnston, the founder and CEO of Bean Ninjas, an accounting service for ecommerce businesses. Meryl was on episode 1,113 , when she was thinking of adding some new services and even creating an all-new brand. Not surprisingly, a lot has changed for Meryl since then. Her business has made some pivots, and she shares some big announcements that I'm excited to share with you. She's even started a family. Oh, and I also have a big announcement to share at the end of this episode. So stick around for that! Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1200.

#1199 In today's "Where are they now?" episode, David Orozco of OrozcoNutrition.com returns to talk about what's happened for him and his business since our first conversation in episode 1,141. Back then, he was balancing a couple of brands and trying to figure out which one to focus on and how to organize everything he was doing. Since then he's gone through a rebrand and narrowed down his ideal customer avatar. Today we talk about David's recent hires, as well as some strategies you can apply as you move forward and make decisions in your own brand. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1199.

#1198 We're finishing up the year with a string of "Where are they now?" episodes to inspire you and get you excited for 2022. These are episodes where we bring back people who I've coached on the show before to talk about where they're at now. Today we're talking with Lela Burris, who is a professional organizer turned blogger. The last time we chatted with Lela, in episode 1,142, she was having some trouble. She was having identity issues related to what she should focus on with her brand. Should she focus on her audience of moms on her blog? Or should she continue her professional work, going into people's homes and helping them organize? Since then, Lela has made some big, clear decisions—and some amazing things have happened for her, which is what we'll be talking about today. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1198.

#1197 This month we've been bringing back people who've been coached on the show before to see how things are going. And today we're reconnecting with Jake Gosselin of Churchfront, which helps ministries lead gospel-centered, tech-savvy worship. To this point, Jake's business has centered around a membership program and online course. He also has a popular YouTube channel under the same name. The last time he was on the show we discussed how he could potentially offer another, high-ticket item on top of the membership and course. Today we'll hear how everything's been going since then, as well as a new project Jake's got up his sleeve. Jake references my Pokémon channel, and we use that as a springboard to some crucial topics: how to focus on the things that matter, allocating time appropriately, so we can be there for our businesses and our families. There's lot of great stuff in this episode, and I can't thank Jake enough for coming back to give us an update because, wow, what an update it is. #1196 Today we're talking with Mark Savant, who I interviewed back on episode 1165. Flash forward to today, and Mark is doing such an amazing job. In fact, as Mark tells me, he's made more money in the past three months than he did the past three years! But like many entrepreneurs whose business starts taking off, he's encountered a new set of problems and decision points. The main thing Mark is trying to figure out is how to organize and position his many services: what's the best way to present them so his audience will pick up what he's putting down? #1195 All this month, November 2021, we're doing “Where are they now?” episodes. These are my favorite episodes to do, because we bring back people who have been coached on the show before, and learn what they did, what they didn't do, what has happened since. Today we're talking with Rose Griffin, who has a business over at ABA Speech. She is a speech language pathologist who helps so many people, not just through her website at ABASpeech.org, but also through her podcast, Autism Outreach. And a lot of stuff has happened for Rose since the last time she was on the show. She's been making amazing strides in just the two months since we last talked to her. She's overcome the mental block around pricing that was keeping her from upgrading the cost of her evergreen course from $99 to $297. She's been getting into the physical product space. And she has an exciting opportunity related to her podcast that's starting to bear fruit. Oh, and she's even got a little thing going on TikTok. As you'll hear in this episode, Rose isn't just an action taker. She's a planner. She's thinking about the future. And most of all, she's here to serve her community and her audience. #1194 Today we're welcoming back Joaquin Elizondo of HollywoodEditingMentor.com. Joaquin helps people break into Hollywood as an editor. There's a lot of people online who teach editing, but Joaquin teaches the business of it and how to actually break into this industry, how to network and develop relationships. Joaquin's doing some amazing things, and he's a mentor to so many people. But he's gotten to a point where he needs some help figuring out his next move. We talk about what's happened for him since he was first on the show, and the struggle he's facing now. Because invariably when you make big decisions and start to grow your business, new problems crop up. And yes, what got you here won't get you there. That's the situation Joaquin is in, and it's what I help him figure out today. Joaquin is an amazing person who's truly in it to help people. We talk about everything from coaching to pricing, to his course, and scaling, and maybe most importantly, doing the work you love. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1194.

#1193 We have another special "Where are they now?" episode today. Our guest was actually one of the very first AskPat 2.0 guests: Cathy Mazak of CathyMazak.com. Cathy is a tenured professor who has a business helping academic womxn find time to write so they can make an impact in their academic field and have a balanced, fulfilled life. (It's spelled that way because, as Cathy says on her website, the business is geared toward helping women as well as non-men and nonbinary folks "change the culture of academia from the inside out.") In just the second episode of the new AskPat 2.0 format, Cathy was in her first year of business. She had a lot of decisions to make, especially around how much money she should be reinvesting in the business. We talk about what Cathy was dealing with back then, and the completely brand new set of problems she's facing. That's what happens when you take action and find success: the problems don't go away. They just change. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1193.

#1192 Today we've got a great conversation with Mike Lander from Piscari. Mike helps sales and account teams learn how to negotiate through his online courses and consultations. He's been productizing some of his services and started to diversify, but he needs help generating more income from his courses. We discuss not just how to diversify smartly, but how Mike can lean into some of his superpowers and position his digital course to generate more sales. Mike is in the B2B space, which is a little bit different from many businesses that work directly with consumers, but the strategies and principles we talk about can apply to lots of businesses. So if this Mike's situation sounds like yours, I think you're going to find some amazing information in this episode. In fact, at the very end, Mike says, "Wow, Pat, I have five or six takeaways I can implement right away." So I hope you stick around and listen to this episode, because this is one about superpowers. It's about diversification, productizing, and leaning into the things that make you you. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1192.

#1191 Today we're speaking with Tracy Diane Jones, a geologist, author, and owner of the website Mini Me Geology. Not only does her business name have a nice ring to it, but Mini Me Geology is also a great resource for kids, teachers, and parents, to learn more about rocks. And Tracy does literally rock! She helps kids develop a love for geology through the kits, books, and activities available on her website. With the rise in interest in STEM education, Tracy's business was doing pretty well, but then some stuff happened in her personal life. She's been trying to get back on track, but she's finding that the old strategies for growing Mini Me Geology haven't been working so well lately. By the end of our conversation, you'll hear that Tracy pretty much knew what she had to do, but was a little scared or reluctant to embrace and take these necessary steps. So what are those steps? Make sure you listen all the way through to find out! Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1191.

#1190 Today we're talking with Gillian Tietz from Sober Powered. Gillian is an amazing person who's helping loads of people get sober with the help of her scientific background, through her podcast, website, Facebook group, and Instagram. I'm so proud of what Jillian is doing with her podcast and her platform, stepping up, being vulnerable and sharing her own story to help others. It's an amazing example of somebody who has gone through some stuff, who has found a solution, and is learning as much as they can and now wants to pass it forward. However, she's having a little bit of trouble connecting all of the pieces. Namely, her large following on Instagram and Facebook doesn't know her podcast exists or are not convinced enough to click play yet. That's what we're going to talk about today: how do we reduce the friction keeping people from getting from social media to our podcast? Because Gillian knows that when people listen to her show, it's changing lives. You'll hear a lot of good ideas today for drawing people in your community to your podcast, which you can hopefully implement if you have a podcast of your own! #1189 Time travel is one of my favorite things, and I love to incorporate it into AskPat by bringing people back to see how things have been going. Jackie Bolen of ESLSpeaking.org has actually been a guest on AskPat a couple of times before, in episodes 1003 and 1046. And she's been on an incredible journey. As you'll learn if you listen to her two previous episodes, she started out doing niche websites and helping people with ESL, and then doing some Amazon-focused stuff. She was going to partner with some people who were supposed to take a bunch of work off of her plate, but it didn't quite work out. Today we're going to dive a little bit deeper into what happened there and where things are now, and you're going to see this very nice story arc that Jackie has followed recently. Jackie is doing pretty well now, but she had to go through some messy stuff in the middle to find her way there. As her story shows, sometimes you don't realize how much you miss something or how good you had it until you don't have it anymore. Jackie's experience also shows the benefit of sticking with one niche and going deep, so you can build relationships and develop a much greater lifetime value (LTV) of each customer. Her story can be a great lesson for all of us, so check it out.

#1188 Today we're talking with Stephanie Taylor from the UK. She and her sister have a business together at Rent2RentSuccess.com. That's essentially a way to rent a property from a landlord, then rent it out again. She and her sister teach others how to do this through their course and membership program. Things are starting to take off, but Stephanie is wondering: Now that we're here, how do we get to the next level? When you find a little success online, you might find yourself facing an even bigger challenge than the one that it took for you to get started. Now that you're making money, how do you make sure you don't lose it? How do you grow and scale the business? You have more options now, but you're faced with a fork in the road. How do you make the right decisions and avoid burnout or regret? How do you overcome the fear of success and growth because you're not mentally ready or don't know what to expect? All great questions we're going to tackle today! We uncover a lot of great things here, including how to get past some of the tricky psychology around making money, and we find some strategies to help Stephanie—and perhaps you—move forward. #1187 Today on the show we're talking with Rose Griffin from ABASpeech.org. Rose is a seasoned speech therapist who's helped many people. Her specialty these days is helping professionals who work with people with complex speech disorders or autism. She's doing great work, and she's already got a course and a podcast out in the world. So what's she struggling with? Well, she wants to know whether to make her course evergreen, or only make it available at certain times of the year. Should she create some FOMO for her target audience by opening and closing the course at regular intervals? Or is that going to be too much work? We also get into a discussion about pricing. When you get to the moment Rose announces the price of her course, you might already know what I'm going to tell her. But stick around to find out. We really dig into the ins and outs of course launch strategy, as well as the mysteries of pricing (because seriously, pricing is weird). This is a great episode if you've got a course that's doing well and you want to make the most of it, so give it a listen. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1187.

#1186 Today I have the pleasure of talking with Daz Cater over in the UK. Daz manages two different blogs, plus he has a full-time job in construction along with being a husband and dad of two kids, and he's wondering whether or not he can balance it all. This is a really fun conversation, especially because of Daz's main interest and the focus of one of his blogs at retrogamerdaz.com: retro toys and collectibles. (I'll just say that his video background is one of the coolest ones I've seen in all my years of interviewing people.) His other website, nextstopwdw.com, is a Disney travel blog where he offers tips and documents his family's journeys through Disney properties. He's built up a decent following on both sites, but he's feeling stuck. Can he manage both, or should he focus on just one of them? That's exactly what we chat about today. #1185 Today we're talking with Shira Kates from Snapdragon Strategy. Shira has a lot of experience in the corporate world and Silicon Valley. She's done a lot of really cool things, but she's ready for her next phase and wants to try something else. Is it coaching? Is it something else? She's got a few opportunities lined up, but she needs help focusing. She also wants to know how she can move in the direction of creating passive income, to give herself some time back and create balance in her life. Along those lines, Shira wants to know: is passive income even real today? Is it possible to easily create a passive income-driven business anymore? That's a really cool discussion we have, too. We also explore the importance of networking and keeping relationships alive throughout your journey. And on top of that, which is maybe the most important part of my conversation with Shira is, how do you leave a legacy, to your family and others? #1184 Today we're talking with Kathy Walker, who was previously on the show in late 2019. She had won an award—the 2019 North Carolina assistant principal of the year award, and wanted to know she might use this award to get more assistant principals to find her show and build her audience. As you might recall, a lot has happened between late 2019 and now, particularly the COVID pandemic. As an assistant principal, obviously Kathy's line of work was dramatically affected, with the shift to virtual learning and supporting teachers and students through all the changes and challenges. Cool fact: Kathy was one of the regulars on the Income Stream, a 365-day straight live stream I did on YouTube. Kathy came in almost every day and was a big part of the community that built up around the show, and I got to know her and work really well. Today, we'll get a little insight on what life was like as an educator during COVID. And we'll also find out what happened to Kathy's brand and her podcast. I'm excited for you to hear this "Where are they now?" conversation. Let's dive into what's happening for Kathy! Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1184.

#1183 Today's guest, Kimberly Reynolds, aka Dr. Kimmy of Productive on Purpose, is at a crossroads. She's created a thriving community built around helping women with productivity and overcoming procrastination. At the same time, she's been niching down and coaching women on building businesses and walking in their purpose. The coaching is taking off—to the tune of $50,000 in revenue in just two months. But she's feeling torn in two directions, and knows she can't commit to both focuses. What should she do? Can she find a way to serve both of her audiences? Can she transition away from managing her community without leaving people hanging? #1182 William Barton from BootSpy.com has a really interesting question today. It's one you might have wrestled with in your own business: How do I launch something when I don't have a list or anybody out there who knows that I exist yet? How do I validate this thing? How do I ensure that it's going to work before I put all this time and effort into it? You may be familiar with a little book I wrote called Will It Fly?, which is all about how to test your next business idea so you don’t waste your time and money. He has ten episodes in the cue with a long-term goal of monetizing the show and earning six figures through his business. Where does he start? If you're looking to monetize your podcast, this is the one for you. We go over several ways Jason can use his podcast to earn income, some mindsets and strategies around the process, and how the podcast can help complement other areas of his business. Let's get started. Show notes and more at SmartPassiveIncome.com/ap1172
