Theologian John Dunn shares a story of a group of sailors who reached South America after a long and treacherous journey. They entered the Amazon River, assuming it was a continuation of the Atlantic Ocean and had run out of fresh water, not realizing that they were sailing on top of one of the biggest bodies of fresh water in the world. Some of them died of thirst.
They met another ship and asked for some fresh water and were told to lower their buckets because they were sailing on fresh water.
What about you? Are you sailing on fresh water and dying of thirst? Perhaps all you have to do is lower your bucket.

I don’t know about you but this has been an eventful week for us here in Florida. The response Joanne and I have to unexpected and unwelcome events is to ask - “What does this make possible?” Times like the recent hurricane here in Florida always bring the seeds of new opportunities. Let’s unpack some questions from listeners who have been given some new opportunities this week?
Questions:
1. If you had to choose your top 10 influencers for your life who would they be?
2. I’m approaching 50 and want to make a change that makes sense for my life but don’t know where to start.
3. I’m trapped by my feel fear of failure - what do you suggest I do to overcome this obstacle?

If the weather and your circumstances have to be perfect for you to be happy, you will always be vulnerable. Let’s adapt Mr. Rogers’ motto: “What’s essential is invisible to the eye.”
I’m going to be devoting some podcasts to a simple thought or principle. I plan to take one idea from history like Zig Ziglar’s story of the pump, or how his neighbor lady’s biscuits got cooked in the squat, or the story of Jim Carrey writing himself a check for $10 million - dating it for 5 years later - and seeing it come true within that 5 year period, having starred in Ace Ventura. Jack Canfield’s story about attending a Come as You’ll Be party and how that set in motion the things he was able to accomplish.
It’s a beautiful day in paradise……

I was blown away at the number of you who committed to 30 days of listening to The Strangest Secret. These responses are so inspiring and encouraging to anyone wanting a fresh start. New habits are easy to do - and easy to avoid. You get to choose.
Here are some of the comments from those of you who wrote your stories:
Questions:
1. Even though people consider me a happy person, I had grown accustomed and actually comfortable with negative thoughts and was reaping the fruit of those negative thoughts.
2. The more I listened to The Secret the more I realized I had the power to change my life.
3. Negative thoughts discouraged me and made me more timid. Scarcity caused me to believe only a full-time job at an employer with benefits was the way to go.
4. I have a small garden in my backyard and in one section I planted sunflower seeds. Guess what grew? Sunflowers!
5. I had been in a bit of a “rut” for the last year, kind of wishing and hoping things were different or better, but unfortunately not really doing much about it. Just continuing on.
6. I think Proverbs 4:23 says it best advising us to guard our heart (mind) above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Without moving into areas where you’ve never been before - areas that cause some fear and anxiety - you can never have anything other than what you already have - what you’ve already experienced. So if you want something other than exactly what you have now, you have to be willing to look into that cave - and go ahead and step inside.

So many of us have early family scripts about money. Do you think money is good - or just a necessary evil to survive? Do you think more money would make you happier? Is the only purpose of money to be able to retire? Here I have a conversation with Derrick Kinney about his new book, Good Money Revolution - How to Make More Money to do More Good.
Questions:
1. Isn’t the American Dream - make enough to “retire” and then you don’t have to continue the rat race of making money?
2. I know it’s nice to be generous but won’t giving more just delay my ability to retire?
3. Is there really such a thing as a “fixed income” or does everyone have the ability to make more?
4. Why do most religions seem to imply that having money is unGodly?

Each week we hear from people who are 27 and those who are 77 who feel they missed their opportunity for success. Like they've missed the window of time where they could have done something significant. Phrases like “I feel like I’ve lived my whole life by accident”, “I feel like my life is a movie that’s almost over, and I haven’t even bought the popcorn yet” and “I’m a butterfly caught in a spider’s web, with my life slowly being sucked out of me” are common. There's hope! No matter where you are in life you can still move toward the dream and how you want to be remembered. I've got a framework for your stage of life - right now.
Questions:
1. You don't really talk about the tech side of your podcast much, but I am curious what podcast host you use? Also, any other information / equipment that you think is best for setting up a podcast.
2. What if I’m too old to chase my dream?

I've always loved setting big goals at the beginning of each year. In fact, I am consistent about having my goals completed for the coming year, in seven different areas of my life, by November 14th of each preceding year. But recently I’ve been challenged by some people I love and trust about the necessity of approaching the new year in that manner. People whom I highly admire, who are kind and loving, and also very high achievers. Maybe it's more about mindset than having a to-do list.
Questions:
1. I would LOVE to do a remote job or start my own home business. I am so scared of the financial aspect of it.
2. After much arguing with my husband, I am almost at the point of giving up but I feel deep down that I must go on.
3. I am in the process of launching a podcast called “Life’s Final Hour” which consists of interviewing people that have 6 months or less to live to learn life’s most important lesson.
4. I want to get your insight on moving from being an employee to being a consultant.
5. I need to find a way drive or grow my business without hiring additional help.

We tend to give to people who have less than we have. But what about people who have more - who are not struggling financially? Here's a challenge and some tips for giving well to people who are doing well (financially).

I'm so aware right now of people who are fearful, discouraged, frustrated and lonely. It's clear the uncertainty and unexpected changes of the last two years have contributed to many feeling ungrounded and vulnerable. It doesn’t take money to give some of the most precious gifts: time, encouragement, a listening ear. Be very aware of those around you, especially during that time of year. Give the gift of a smile today. It costs you nothing, and you still have it to give again and again.
Questions:
1. Is it a bad thing to avoid work?
2. My husband and I both realized it wasn't just job satisfaction we were struggling with, it was our entire lifestyle.
3. When you talk about the books you have read, do you read every book word for word or is it just skimming for highlights?
4. How can I find time for another income stream when working 60 hours a week already and taking care of family members with health issues?

Don't expect "passion" to show up fully developed. It's typically more developed than discovered. Start by following your Curiosity, build some Proficiency, develop your Passion, find a Purpose, provide a Promise, and enjoy the Profits. Anyone can start with 10 ideas and from there, have a clear direction, plan and profits in 48 Days.
Questions:
1. Can I have multiple business ideas under one business name?
2. I looked for my passion and found nothing.
3. I'm making too much money at my regular job to focus enough time on my side business.
4. After 38 years of pastoral ministry I’m struggling with charging for coaching.
5. How can I be like Dan and start and grow an online business without using social media.

4.4 million people quit their jobs in October. The "antiwork" movement is growing rapidly. Is being "free" from work really "freedom?" Maybe Janis Joplin framed it best with "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose." In 48 Days to the Work You Love I quote Leo Tolstoy who discovered “that work, and not idleness, is the indispensable condition of happiness for every human being.”
Questions:
1. Can we balance work we love and work we don’t love?
2. How can I sell my art to make a living?
3. How long should I stick with an idea before moving on?

The eagles build a nest using thornbush strands to lock it together. Then they cover them with leaves and feathers to make it soft and comfortable. However, when the eaglets are about twelve weeks old, mom and dad eagles begin to remove the protection from the thorns. Pretty soon the little eaglets are up on the edge of the nest to avoid the pain and discomfort. Then mom and dad eagle fly by with tasty morsels of food just out of reach. Soon the little eaglet makes a big leap to get away from the pain and the hunger, and you know what happens – he learns he can fly.
