If you're like most podcasters, you are struggling to get noticed. You are probably feeling invisible in the sea of podcasts. How do you find the confidence to stand up and stand out?

On the other side, the podcasting elite are shaming you for even having the desire to make money with your podcast and grow your influence.

I want to help you defeat Impostor Syndrome and all the naysayers while finding the confidence to let your superpower shine.

MY WHY

Last weekend, my son and I traveled to Southern California for a hockey combine. This is where young men play to get noticed by coaches and scouts for junior hockey teams and college programs.

I did a lot of work on the road last weekend. In fact, I recorded my podcast with my laptop in the parking lot of the rink.

This weekend, he and I are in Boston for a hockey showcase. This is very similar to last weekend. This event attracts different coaches and scouts. We are looking for a great team for Simon to join next season.

Today, I record this episode from the parking lot of another rink.

Later tonight, we will drive 2 hours North to see my daughter who is away at college. We will tour the campus, have dinner and see a show she is directing.

Tomorrow, we fly back home.

That is my internal "why" and the reason I created Podcast Talent Coach. I want to have time to travel with my kids anytime I'd like. And be able to serve podcasters and coaches while I'm anywhere in the world.

I don't need to be tethered to an office in some fixed location. With my laptop and an internet connection, I can run my business from anywhere.

MY CONFIDENCE

Unfortunately, I lacked the confidence to make this happen when I first started.

I started in radio in 1989 while getting my degree in Architecture. I had no idea what I was doing.

My show was just a copy of all the other DJs I heard on the air. Over time, I studied all I could to learn how to create compelling radio. My coaches taught me how to build relationships with my audience.

Eventually, I would become the program director of many radio stations coaching other on-air talent to create the same successful shows.

As I began listening to podcasts, I realized podcasters could use the same strategies we use in radio to build the same powerful, profitable relationships. So, I started Podcast Talent Coach.

Soon, I realized there was this stigma in the podcasting world. Many podcasters looked down their noses at hosts who wanted to monetize their show.

It was as if it was some sin to have a desire to make money with your show. They acted as if this should be some noble thing you did for free.

Public radio is a lot like that. Those in public radio sometime act as if they are doing work that is more worthy or valuable than those in commercial radio.

Well, the government isn't funding your podcast. You are creating amazing content and have a message to share. And, you should be able to monetize your show if that is your wish.

FIGHT THE VOICES

Over the years, I have fought the high and mighty and followed my passion. I knew podcasting is a powerful tool to build relationships and profitable business. I ignored those who showered shame on entrepreneurs and did it anyway.

It took a lot. There were times when I doubted I was doing the right thing. Maybe podcasting was meant to be this sacred land free of marketing messages.

That's when I took a step back and looked at the successful podcasts. The shows at the top of the charts … who were NOT produced by public radio … all had a monetization strategy or were connected to a bigger business.

The only podcasters shaming people for the desire to monetize were those who couldn't figure it out. They were the crabs in the bottom of the bucket pulling the other crabs back down.

I blocked out the negative Nancies and moved forward anyway.

YOUR CONFIDENCE

You can do it as well. I believe you have it in you.

CONVERSATIONS

It breaks my heart when I talk with podcasters struggling to connect the podcast to their coaching business. They find it difficult to figure out how the podcast fits into the overall marketing plan.

As these podcasters try to create a strategy, other podcasters shame them for having the desire to make money with their show. It is as if podcasting should be this noble, non-profit charity.

That's just nonsense from people who don't want you to succeed if they can't succeed.

You have every right to use your podcast as a powerful marketing platform for your coaching business. Don't let the misinformed pull you back down simply because they can't figure it out.

Imagine being able to have a conversation with your ideal customers on a weekly basis.

In addition to that, your ideal clients request to have that conversation every week by subscribing to your show to hear you share your expertise. How great would that be?

A podcast makes weekly conversations with potential high-ticket clients possible. Not only possible, but highly likely when you have a system in place.

That is my external "why". This is the external reason I created Podcast Talent Coach. I want you to be able to quickly and easily attract those high-ticket clients using your podcast.

YOUR MESSAGE

Too many podcasters have a message to share to the world. They simply don't build the audience of ideal people they can help, because they don't have the confidence. They let the voices of the naysayers keep them down.

The little voice in your head is asking, "Who do you think you are? What makes you think you're an expert?"

That voice is just the lack of confidence others have of themselves infecting you. Don't let it. Believe in yourself. You have an fantastic message people need to hear.

Podcasting gives you an amazing opportunity to tell your stories and build know, like and trust. Friendships are built through the details you share of your life and journey.

When you structure your show properly, your podcast can be an amazing marketing tool to drive your business and grow your revenue. You build trust every week with your audience.

Your strategy attracts an audience who is leaning into what you say rather than just simply listening to listen. You are building a relationship.

Podcasting allows you to demonstrate your authority to your prospects and invite them to become clients. You increase your visibility as your audience grows.

Leading listeners of your podcast to become paying coaching clients is just a matter of following a simple step-by-step process.

BE REAL

One of the big challenges coaches face is the lack of strategy. They have no step-by-step process in place to lead their listeners to become paying clients.

You want to double your downloads again and again. There is no shame in that.

But as you grow, make sure you are creating an audience of buyers. You don't want listeners for the sake of having listeners. Interested listeners is not the goal.

You want listeners who are committed to what you have to offer. Quality over quantity.

To have a significant impact in the lives of your clients, you need to be real. You can't sugarcoat your expertise. Give your clients what they need to hear.

The same is true with your podcast. Be authentic. Stop worrying about ruffling feathers or upsetting the apple cart.

Be real, even if it means upsetting a few people. Stand up for your principles. Make people take notice.

CONTENT-CLIENT CONNECTION

There are six phases to the Content-Client Connection inside my Podcast Profits Accelerator. Six steps is all it takes. It doesn't need to be any harder than this.

Though the entire process is beyond what I can fit into this episode, I will give you a quick overview.

Phase 1 is Podcast Platform. This is all about defining your ideal listeners and your why.

Phase 2 is Audience Attraction. This is how you attract your ideal clients.

Phase 3 is Content Creation. This is where we create magnetic content.

Phase 4 is your Relationship Roadmap. This step is all about creating powerful, profitable relationships with your podcast.

Phase 5 is Starting Strategy. This is all about getting listeners to start through your funnel.

Finally, Phase 6 is Converting Clients. This is where you present your offer.

Each phase needs to be tailored to your particular niche and the solution you offer to the clients you help.

Once you have tailored each phase, you have a strategy to follow that will attract the right listeners. You'll have an audience full of potential clients who want to work with you.

It isn't about the size of your audience. It is about the powerful, profitable relationships you are creating with that audience.

Just remember to be yourself and follow the plan. You will build an audience of passionate, potential clients leaning in and ready to hire you to impact their lives.
