On today’s episode, I’m chatting with wearable journalist and co-founder of Hashtag Our Stories, a platform empowering mobile journalists to share stories of people positively changing their world. Growing up, journalism wasn’t on this week’s guest’s radar. Completing a marketing degree, he realised he could use his newfound storytelling skills in a more impactful way and decided to apply for fellowships in the media industry. Landing in South Africa, he was quickly immersed and found himself falling in love with the work. Challenging prejudice as his driving force, he carved a name for himself and began reporting on what was happening around him. Years later after having hitch-hiked from Durban to Damascus, reporting from active war zones and working for CNN, he decided he wanted to do things his own way. Championing selfie or mobile journalism as a more powerful way to relay news, Hashtag Our Stories was born and continues to disrupt the way we consume information. To share his journey, here’s what it’s like to be Yusuf Omar.
