The cast of Wet Hot Minnesota Summer (Jen Van Kaam, Justina Cegelski, Molly Chase, Jonathan Gershberg, Sidney Oxborough, Autumn Burggraff, Michael Renner and co-director/creator Alex Collyard (unfortunately Connor Lane, Sally Franson, Lupe Muraszewski, Kristen Pichette and co-director Hannah Wydeven couldn’t make it)) talk about their improvised adaptation of the cult classic movie, Wet Hot American Summer. On one hand, the absurdity of the film allows for more freedom than most genre shows because it treats reality as fluid, but there’s an added challenge of not just playing character types, but playing characters that were designed to make fun of character types. They balance real moments the audience can relate to with characters so self-centered and ridiculous that they defy traditional improv wisdom.
