Wen-Jay Ying is a woman on a mission. The founder of Local Roots — a new kind of C.S.A. and, since last year, a physical cafe and market space — Ying has for the past 11 years been single-mindedly driven to bring hyperlocal nutritious food and produce to communities that need it most. But she does it in a way that is educational without being preachy, fun and almost punk rock. Which is not a stretch to say: Years ago, Ying received a piece of advice that set her on the path to where she is now … from Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne.
